Now you may call me a bit of a traditionalist, but when I purchase a full game I expect to have the full game; and I’m hoping Halo Infinite will deliver.
As it stands now Halo Infinite is going to ship in two forms: The Full Game and the Free Multiplayer. As seen from the tech demo, both these forms are going to be using a sort of “credit” premium currency. While I’m okay with such a model in a free-to-play game, I’m extremely wary about this being in a paid game. Such premium models tend to be overly aggressive in imposing sales, such as hiding popular items behind premium currency or throttling progression without its aid. This is already somewhat demonstrated by the season’s Battlepass (the main method of earning cosmetics) being unlocked with Credits. Again, this is okay in a free game but not a paid game.
To this end I am hoping that buying the full game gives a clear means to largely mitigate the invasion of premium currency. Perhaps those who buy the full game will automatically unlock the seasonal battlepasses; or maybe they will get an allowance of credits with each season to make essential purchases. The point here is that paid players should only buy premium currency because they WANT to, NOT because they NEED to. Great service makes great customers. Treating them as people with realistic budgets instead of an infinite source of profit will greatly increase their retention and fuel further growth.
Now I know these decisions are more the choices of the higher corporate geezers, but the argument still needs to be made. Games are for fun and mutual benefit. Let the players enjoy their games and the producers will be rewarded. What more should be said?
I’m sure they will have certain editions of the halo game to purchase like standard or ultimate edition which will provide currency or certain seasons or whatever but i share the same concerns as you do as do others.
the great thing about the battlepass for Halo infinite is that if you miss out on unlocking an item from a previous season you can still work on its progression to unlock it in a current season. This makes the battlepass much better than COD’s Warzone which only grants you access to an item if you unlock it during that specific season and can’t unlock it it after the season ends. I think I read the specifics that they have in mind for the battlepass in one of their updates a couple months ago. I’m sure they will release more details closer to launch.

The first season is free for everybody and you buy the rest.
Honestly I don’t see the issue, they are running for a few months at a time and will cost, what, $10 each?
I think they should introduce more challenges. It makes Halo tons of fun. So far the battlepass seems easily attainable.
They should introduce credit rewards so you never have to pay a dime if you don’t want to .
The only paid portion of this game is the campaign, so I wouldn’t expect any MP cosmetics for purchasing the campaign. At that point you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment.
