If Halo wants to broaden its audience then there needs to be a Marine focused game. The game could focus on a recruit thrown into battle during the middle of the war and his story about the losing battle against the Covenant. If the story focused on the squad, 343i could craft a very emotionally moving story without compromising action. Destructible environments are a must along with co-op campaign. Multiplayer would be battlefield styled with vehicles and large teams. They could also explore the option of using Spartans as a power-up. Squad based combat would be essential to multiplayer and achieving victory through teamwork would be much easier than lone wolf. We could explore customizable armor and appearance and maybe even touch on weapon modifications to keep gameplay fresh.
Why would they want to make this? It doesn’t really fit with the style of the games, and the closest thing we have to what you want is ODST. This sounds exactly like battlefield. Which already exists and is run farely well by another, so 343 has no reason to make that game.

Yeah! How dare spin offs play abit differently from the main game! Screw diversity!
I’d rather be an ODST again than a Marine.
Or an Elite…(Halo 2 arby levels)

ODST would be an elite class in another game mode…
FIREFIGHT XD
I’ve always wanted a Marine-focused tactical shooter since Halo 3.
Something like Gears of War or Ghost Recon, and set during the Insurrection.
It’ll never happen as a full game, but it could make a cool spin-off. Maybe even a Gears of War expansion/spin-off with a Halo UNSC Marine theme, now that the Gears of War IP is owned by Microsoft.

My point was not that ODST was a bad game, my point was why make battlefield, when battlefield already exists. Especially when that style of play is foreign to the way halo is played. Halo Wars worked because it was totally different as an RTS. You can’t just change the whole premise while remaining a shooter. Thats why the top down shooters didn’t sell so well.

It’s supposed to foreign to the way Halo is played! Its a completely different game. And the point is to make a game that will add more to the Halo universe and draw players in. I would buy a Mass Effect game thats completely different because I love the original franchise and universe. A new Halo game will draw new audiences and only make the player base of Halo larger. Plus, you can’t tell me large scale warfare with tanks and falcons flying around wouldn’t be kick -Yoink-! Sure we wouldn’t be playing as an all powerful Spartan, but we’d be able to see how demoralizing the war was through the eyes of a Marine or ODST.

But it is too close to the already existing games. If you want a different type of halo game, it should be a different game. ODST worked, because it was very close to the style of the other games. Halo wars worked because it was so different. You want an fps halo game, that doesn’t fit the halo fps model. It doesn’t fit. We have large scale battles, in Halo wars. Every game adds more to the universe, some just add more than others. The battlefield model can’t be implemented in other fps games without fundamentally changing what those games mean by fps. That is why call of duty and Halo have retained the same basic style of play. That is what makes the game unique and why people buy them. Also a battlefield game takes a lot of development, especially since this would technically be a spinoff game.

So why not keep the same style as ODST? I personally thought it was a great game. Controlling a top down battle in Halo Wars is much different that being in the middle of a battle in a game like Battlefield. Theres something special about the every single thing being a player created action. I think that having the name Halo will help sell it, but also the fact that will be marketed as a stereotypical fps will help sales with people that don’t normally buy Halo. If the game is fun, people will buy it. And the game would add a ton to the universe by adding multitudes of information on marine/ODST tactics and there fight instead of Chiefs.

I see where you’re coming from,
So what about this? A marines focused game with the Halo 5 engine? Like movement, Sliding, clambering, team work? Except this would be earlier in the Human Covenant war with UNSC tech used that was only mentioned from previous halo content like books or Halo Wars?

Use the Halo 5 engine, but just slow it down since we’re talking marines not spartans. The UNSC tech would be based on anything before the end of Halo 3. The game would be squad based with 8 squads of 4 per team.

That would be fine. I didn’t dislike the idea of a story about marines, and having a good narrative, but changing the gameplay halo is known for and copying another way to go. I’m really looking forward to Halo Wars 2, mostly because I love the Halo universe and its story. Another game like ODST would be welcome in my opinion.

So if ya love the Halo Universe, why would you be against a battlefield style game that focuses on Marines, a group we haven’t explored yet. Sure it will be like other shooters, but all shooters are similar to each other. The game would serve as new material for Halo. A new ODST would be great, but it needs to be on a bigger scale than the old one. The old one suffered from no multiplayer and a very short campaign.
Or you could play battle field
How about you play as Sgt. Johnson during the first encounter with the covenant?

Yeah I could go play battlefield, but I’d prefer to play a Halo game. Plus there is so many opportunities to make a great game and expand the lore of Halo.

That would be pretty epic! Sgt. Johnson would be great to play as, but would almost be better as a squad leader throughout the campaign. You could be a Spartan I deployed with Johnson. That way we could still see Johnson kicking some Covenant -Yoink-.
