I know this is really old and doesn’t necessarily matter anymore but I just wanted to get everyone’s opinons. Was anyone else disappointed that Halo Reach had the DMR instead of the Battle Rifle from Halo 2 and Halo 3? I like all 3 games (especially Halo 3) but when I got Halo Reach I was a little disappointed that there was no Battle Rifle. I just thought the DMR was slow and had such limited ammo (just my opinion). Anyone else have a thought on this? I know the Battle Rifle from Halo 2 and Halo 3 are a little different but it was such a huge change for me jumping to the DMR and I really missed the BR.
I didnt mind the DMR, but i still prefer the halo 2 br over any other weapon in any halo game ever released. Oh and the CE AR.
Man the vibration of those guns with the duke controller… 10/10

I loved the BR it was my favorite weapon in the Halo games. After I had it in Halo 2 and Halo 3 I was looking back at CE disappointed that it didn’t make it into that game. The vibratons on those old duke controllers was insane though lol

People complained about the lack of the famous three-shot-kill hand cannon in other games but it was always there, it is now a properly scaled weapon called the battle rifle which fire 12 bursts of three bullets (in the Halo 2 alpha, it used to shoot one while scoped) and is slightly nerfed.
The DMR had 12 in the beta and is still shooting one bullet, that was the problem with the CE pistol, it was used like a rifle while it was supposed to be used like a pistol should be.

Yeah the CE pistol was OP but at least it was fun to use. I just thought the DMR shot so sloooww and I wasn’t a huge fan going from the BR to that.
The DMR is reliable at very long range unlike the CE pistol which have trouble just outside medium range.
I prefer the DMR, cause in Reach. You can’t spam it, i love the ability to slowly pace my shots for a rewarding, clean kill.

It also bugs me how it didn’t made it to Reach. Probably the same reason as to why the AR was absent in Halo 2 (to give the new guns a chance). But honestly, I think that the DMR was a good weapon. It forced you to pace your shots instead of straight spamming them. When I mastered the pace, I managed to become much better than before, always having a positive K/D ratio in every game. About ammo, I highly disagree(My opinion). The DMR in Reach always has more ammo than the Battle Rifle in Halo 2 and 3. In these, you have only 3 clips of reserve, while with the DMR, you can get 4 clips. And when I always look at the ammo with the BR, I get a bit desperate because I don’t want to get out of ammo in a Firefight, alas with the DMR, I get mostly confident.
EDIT: Not to mention that the DMR does more damage to vehicles.

I actually enjoyed the dmr majorly in reach just due to how the maps were larger. I prefer BR in h5 though

Like the pistol, the assault rifle is still in Halo 2, it’s now a SMG but the SMG is really bad unlike the assault rifle.
Personally, i liked the DMR, and it made the game stand out from halo 2 and halo 3. Although i prefer the br when available, i still think the dmr is a fun weapon to use, and not one that makes me sigh when i have to use it like other weapons in the halo universe.

I guess I wasn’t as fond of it because I was bad with it lol

I wouldn’t say your bad with it. Or anyone is bad with it, the DMR just takes some getting used to. Think of it this way, if you can aim with a pistol. You can aim with a DMR, practice makes perfect Spartan

I remember in First Strike that Will first tried the BR55 in ONI Castle Base. If they added the BR in Halo Reach it won’t make sense. Also, Noble Team was with the army and the army still uses the DMR instead of Battle Rifle. Performance-wise I would go with the BR55 because of no reticle bloom! Despite pacing your shots, the reticle bloom is enormous. I have to spam headshots at an elite in order to take him down or he would go back into cover. With the BR you shot 4 times at the head and it is over. It took me an entire magazine full of spamming DMR headshots and melees in order to take down the field marshal.
I think Bungie wanted to try a different weapon out.
