Battle Rifle canon question

This question has been bothering me ever since the campaign demo for H4 was released.

MC landed on Requiem in the Forward unto Dawn, and was on the surface when he watches the UNSC Infinity arrive.

Before he finds the Infinity, he is supposedly equipping himself with weapons from the FUD. But he has the new H4 Battle Rifle!

If the FUD was equipped with these new BRs all along, why didn’t we see them in the H3 campaign?

I think it would make sense if Chief got the new BR from the Infinity’s armory, but for the part of the campaign before he finds them, the older BR from H2 and H3 should be what he carries. I think that would make more sense and at the same time be a cool cameo.

343 does not care about canon, as far as looks. Just look at chief’s suit, and the jackals.

Ah. Wow. Got the ship name wrong. This is embarrassing…
But the BR is significantly different, and I think having the old one make an early appearance would do nothing but help the campaign.

It’s pretty ironic that you call yourself t00 late now, couse that’s what it is. It’s too late to add something like this. Sorry.

Honestly, they’ve already been working on this game for almost 4 years, if they had time to have the older weapons and other stuff in the game before you find Infinity then I’m sure they would be in the game. But with how ambitious the campaign is, all the new elements, Spartan Ops, and everything else going into the game I don’t think that there was enough time.

It not as much about canon, it’s more about “artistic liberties”. Their Halo, their design. It’s the same model, just with a new design. Just imagine it’s the old one. Eventually, it will grow on you.

> We can take that to mean the Halo 4 Battle Rifles are simply aesthetic redesigns of the Halo 3 model, and should not be taken so seriously.

But if you consider the time between when Chief is stranded and the beginning of H4, it becomes more likely that the BR is not only significantly polished but more advanced technologically as well.

I don’t mind the new BR design, it looks awesome.

I just don’t understand how Chief got his hands on one so early.

Maybe he runs across some destroyed UNSC ships that have weapons on them.

> Maybe he runs across some destroyed UNSC ships that have weapons on them.

That would make more sense.

But if he is equipping himself from the FuD, things get more complicated.

Ha hem, please read the highlighted.

So what you’re saying is it shouldn’t make sense. 343 just gets to do whatever they want because it’s their game. That’s true.

This would just make their game better.

What you should bare in mind is that this particular level that was shown at E3 is most probably just a way off showing of the new enemies and graphics etc, so the level itself might not be included in the full game.

Not every little tiny detail has to be canon.

Just look at the difference between the Elites, jackels and grunts in Halo 1, 2, 3 and ODST.
Or even better, how about Chief’s hand plates in Halo 3? They look different from what they looked like in Halo 2. Is there a canon reason why they look different? No, it’s artistic liberties.

I doubt that, but it could be the case.

MC also seemed to have “Promethean” vision during his first encounter with them in that demo. But that topic is for another day.

Oh well.

I guess this was more of a “wouldn’t that be cool” idea than something that would actually make it into the game.

Doesn’t mean he hasn’t found dropped equipment on the ground, the first experience with the Prometheans is when the Infinity crashes into Requiem, which is a bit into the Campaign.

It’s just like the Halo 2 BR to the Halo 3 BR… graphical and gameplay tweaks, it doesn’t require an explanation. Even if it is a bigger change, it looks great

Or like the absence of one single assault rifle in the entirety of Halo 2 campaign.

Oh wait. Big change.
