Battle passes

Is anyone else disappointed that we will have to pay for battle passes?

Not really, the MP is F2P and they gotta make money somehow.

I’m just glad that they aren’t lootboxes and are permanently unlocked so you don’t have to worry about missing out on stuff.

Agreed, I really dislike lootboxes. I don’t mind paying for a battlepass.

I’d much rather have it this way, it’s better to purchase the pass knowing what it guarantees to offer, as oppose to a bunch of lootboxes with no promise of anything of worth to you as a player.

Yes. I’m the biggest, or one of the biggest anti micro transaction players on these forums. I rarely pay more than the price of the game and I’ve been very vocal about what 343i seem to be doing. But, after watching the multiplayer overview I’m a little less cynical. Your season pass won’t disappear and you choose what to work towards. Not bad imo. Also anything earned cannot simply be bought.

That’s music to my ears. It adds value to my time invested. Equally, I don’t miss out as the season pass is permanent.

This is one of the most consumer friendly MT systems in the industry.

Can anyone here explain how they work exactly?

You buy a pass, what do you get? How many battle passes can there be?

Agreed. Honestly, 343 deserves a lot of credit for not pressuring people into buying it through some fear of missing out scheme. The fact that you can go back and get which ones you want, whenever you want them is very well done in my opinion.

This is the one thing so far I’m concerned about. As long as they’re reasonably priced and have a lot of content though I think it’ll be okay.

I agree, the randomness of loot boxes was really lacking. But with this battle pass system there’s no choice. You can’t choose to just play and grind your way to the armors etc.

Now we will have to pay and grind? I’m an advocate for choice. Sure you can choose not to buy the battle passes, but there’s no option to earn the rewards without purchase.

The current season system of MCC has it right. Or even H5 loot boxes are better than paying to grind. With H5, you have a choice to pay for the packs with money or play and earn RP for the packs. But the choice to spend money rather than play is yours.

From what has been revealed/explained to us:

You buy a battle pass, I assume it’ll work like battle passes in other games where you progress through the pass by playing the game. Hopefully the battle pass is full of cosmetic items (similar to other games). The difference between Infinite’s battle pass and other games is even after a season is over you can go back and unlock previous battle pass content, similar to MCC’s system.

As for how many battle passes there can be, I assume an infinite (no pun intended) amount. Just depends on how many 343 wants to make.

So you buy a thing and what do you get out of it? Is it basically what we have in MCC, monthly unlockables that ‘refresh’ every 30 days?

I will spend too much money on personal AI if they feel premium and add Cortana like experience.

I’d assume it is similar to MCC in the sense that you have seasonal (I say seasonal because I have no idea if the season lasts a month or more) content to unlock, like armor pieces and coatings.

After a season is done I assume the next season will have a new battle pass with new armors/coatings.

The fact I can buy any battlepass from the past or present is awesome.
Further having people have to unlock the items in them rather than pay to own like Fortnite makes them more meaningful.

The coolest part is that an item offered in a battlepass cannot be bought from the store. So provided epic things are in the battlepass I’m in for that.

Considering you buy just once and earn everything you purchase is way better than having random lootboxes. And the purchases tied only to cosmetics is the least intrusive way of monetisation for a Free to play multiplayer in my opinion, I’m okay with this.

Nope to me its the new gaming trend and Halo hopping on I’ve played enough games with battle pass to know what I can expect from one I hope they add something more than just skins.

I’m pretty much against any kind of microtransactions, so my opinion is going to be a little biased. What I’m not against is paying a company what they deserve for all the hard work and dedication they put into games that are on this type of scale.

Going by the system that was created in MCC it seems like you will have to buy a new pack each season to grind for the unlocks. Isn’t this what they were trying to avoid by doing away with loot boxes? If you don’t buy them you are effectively locked out of that content. Sure you could buy it later and you know all the items in the pass, but they are just putting a bigger price tag on a similar system.

It would nice to be able to earn those same unlocks without the pass. I would also love to just pay for the mp and actual dlcs, but maybe I’m just an old spartan and am reminiscing about getting I’ll all the achievements in halo 3 to unlock the katana.

Free-to-play multiplayer meant it was going to have a battle pass. The way they explained it, it sounds fair, though. You can purchase any BP, it doesn’t expire, and you can work towards whichever one you want to progress on. Again, it’s a fair way to do a BP system.

FOMO was one of my biggest concerns when they first announced F2P.
