TLDR: Add performance based recurring daily rewards to supplement the pitifully small low-effort “Practice makes perfect” challenge or I’ll pull my man hair out and mail it to you.
Last paragraph has my suggestions.
A quick math breakdown:
most 4v4 matches take 12 minutes or slightly less when completing early. We now get 50xp per match from the repeating “Practice makes perfect” daily challenge.
Each battle pass stage costs 1000xp, this means that, if we do not complete weekly or other challenges, it will take 4 hours to clear a single stage of the battle pass if we grind out 4v4’s.
That means each season would cost us 400 hours to complete if we’re just grinding 4v4’s.
Luckily, we have weekly challenges, however it seems that the most I can earn in a week is around 5500 xp, maybe 6000 xp since I have already completed some and couldn’t reference them anymore.
That means a maximum of 6 stages per week… only 6, without grinding out 4 hours of my life to complete an extra stage each day.
I hope you see the problem with this. That’s about how much time I have left after work before I NEED to sleep.
I understand that marketing is trying to push people to buy stages for 2.00 usd each, but I will not do that. I already paid 10.00 usd just for the battle pass, and soon you’ll be getting ANOTHER 60.00 usd for every campaign sale.
The game is fun, but for the majority of players the rush will wear off after 24 hours of game time, at that point the progression system is what keeps them engaged, but each stage costs us too much time, or too much money to complete. I would expect to complete a stage every 30 minutes of active gameplay or less, like in previous Halo progressions. Add to that, there is no performance reward, we are only awarded 50xp per game, win or lose. 50xp feels like a loss every time.
I want to be able to live normally during the week and on Friday night I jump on Halo Infinite with the thought “I’m gonna clear so many season stages with my buddies tonight.” At present, that’s not going to happen.
→ My suggestion: Leave the current challenge rewards alone. and don’t bother changing the xp cost per stage.
→ But add a recurring challenge for scoring 7 kills that rewards 75xp per game, and a jackpot reward for 20 kills that rewards 200xp (score does not carry over from match to match.) That means the maximum xp we can get from a really good slayer match is 325xp without completing a weekly challenge but doing well in the match.
It doesn’t necessarily need to be in kills, since there are objective gametypes. On Oddball maybe reward an extra 50xp for each minute of holding the ball, or 150xp for winning CTF, etc.
Just, reward your players for doing well each game. Leave it up to us how quickly we progress through the season by dangling a big fat carrot at the end of each match instead of tempting me to leave matches early because “I won’t get anything for it anyway.”
