Jerry Hook, Head of Design at 343 just went on record explaining that the battle pass does not contain something free every tier, but instead “numerous rewards” throughout the pass for free.
The bad news just do not seem to stop recently. So far, I have been a vocal defender of 343’s approach to battle passes, even called them on numerous occasions the most consumer-friendly in the industry. Everything had pointed to that. A reward for every tier, I believe it was even said, and in the UI we could see for every tier two rewards - one major (like a shader) and one minor (like some boost).
This is devastating. My trust that Halo Infinite will come with fair monetization has been pushed to the brink. The fact that you can only level up via challenges is another baffling decision I just cannot understand. I absolutely get that a F2P game has to make money somehow, this was my own argument, but there needs to be something for the free-track that is worth my time.
Now, I acknowledge that we do not have much of an idea what any of this means. “Numerous” could maybe mean every other tier, but it could also mean every tenth tier a useless challenge swapper.
Here is what I suggest - Give something worthwhile to unlock at an appropriate rate. A shader here, a pair of knee pads there is not crazy to ask for, you can still make your money with especially cool cosmetics. Do not limit our progress artificially like with challenge-only level-ups. Create an alternate leveling system that runs beside the battle pass with its own rewards. Be consumer-friendly.
This would’ve been such a non-issue if they just hadn’t stated there would be a free reward at each tier. But now it looks like they’re just going back on their word.
So, the XP via challenge only of the Flight may not represent how it will actually work at launch. In fact, I’d hazard a guess that this is totally not how it is intended to work, and challenge xp is just a boost to per match XP.
I mean. Anything else would be bananas
As for Battlepass, I can’t comment as I’ve not seen the latest comments of which you speak. But my prior understanding was that the paying folk didn’t get a lot to write home about. Which struck me as weird, but honestly, live service games are severely in my bad books, so I’m reserving judgement because they almost always seem to be different to what was promised pre launch.
I distinctly hope that Halo, and 343, maintain their player focused mentality and break into a bright future for gaming.

Yes, in the past few days I feel like too much back paddling and “corrections” have happened over things I was excited about. This makes me sad. I was really excited about Infinite, now I am just skeptical about everything.

Yea true. I get that feeling alright when 343 goes back on there word. So many things now are being changed and others being put back in. Only time will tell. At least im happy that the halo community speaks volume and hopefully 343 well get the idea of what doesnt work and others we didnt even ask for!
This could also mean that they are stepping away from the consumable unlocks that were in the pass last flight (xp boosts and challenge swaps) and the true cosmetics content remains.
Don’t think they have reshuffled the amount of unlockable content per season last minute so quality will probably remain. Let’s just see before we judge =)
How about making progression a bit of a grind for the free track, and premium players can simply buy the pass and get everything unlocked right away? Or at a much smaller time investment? I hate getting completely locked out of progression if I don’t want to spend.

Some are of course reasonable, I am just anxious pretty much everything worthwhile will be behind a paywall. But as I said in the original post, all speculation for now. I just don’t like how things sound currently. Everything so vague, so much back paddling, it all seems fishy. I wish 343 would just clarify.

I called this months ago, as did other users. Some of us have stated repeatedly that the we feared the best kit would be paywalled. I used the term that I smelled a rat and I imagined that the battle pass would not be as friendly as players were predicting. I think more bad news will folllow too. I hate to say that but it’s my gut feeling at the moment.
There would be no incentive to use the other MTX that will be present if they gave away rewards at every tier for the battlepass
expect a battle pass like fortnight or the last few seasons of apex where if you get the premium BP you’ll get an unlock at every tier, but ig you are just using the free BP 1 reward every 3-5 tiers and no rewards after tier 40 or something (depending on how mant tiers there are)
Like I keep saying, and have been saying since the F2P announcement
The multiplayer si F2P
The campaign can be had for “free” through game pass
The game has (so far) cost 500Mil to develop and its probably cost more given an extra year of development
This game with me microtransatcioned to the absoulte bejeebus, guys prepare yourself and brace yourself for it now so you won’t be disillusioned and angry when it happens
I’m telling you
