Battle Pass Advancement: How to make it fair while still preserving a slow pace for the F2P aspect

So it’s entirely known to everyone at this point that advancing the Battle Pass is excruciating. You ONLY get XP from completing challenges which often are incredibly situational, and the amount of XP you get from them is petty. Generally just playing the game feels incredibly unrewarding unless you’re constantly trying to do challenges. Just relaxing and playing and gaining XP doens’t really happen, you have to grind for it.

The way to fix this is simple.

1 kill = 1XP
1 Flag Cap = 10XP
5 seconds with Oddball = 1XP
1 Area Cap = 5XP
1 win = 50XP
Etc

Players should be incrementally rewarded for PLAYING THE GAME. These are very tiny rewards, but cumulatively will add up a little bit. Implementing this will AT LEAST make players feel like killing enemies, capturing the flag, winning, etc are rewarding them. Right now the biggest problem is that it doesn’t feel rewarding just to play the game or to win.

If you want the pass not to be so painful, please get this post highly visible so 343i can see it and at least consider it.

Yeah, And I don’t understand why they are adding a non stop “daily challenge” of playing one game in order to complete the game to get 50XP which resets after every game… why not just make it 50XP per game? How is that a “challenge”? Are they treating us like we’re challenged or something? Weird lmao

And yeah we all know the rewards suck, progression sucks, and the “weekly challenges” that take a few minutes also suck. They already did good with Reach I can’t understand how they dropped so hard from there, I really want to know what’s going on in the management.

Personal opinion but they should add a progression system for in game acquired currency to choose which armor and customizations to buy. They should have hardcore achievement based rewards for the skilled an or dedicated players, to actually show off something that was earned and respected. While the paid battlepass rewards are limited/events under real life currency pay wall, which ofc gives better rewards in general. I don’t want to act like a -Yoink!- I know 100% the developers already have had all these ideas and more. It just boggles me what the hell is going on with these things, it’s borderline creepy to me

The reason they made it a Daily Challenge to completee games nonstop is because if they just made a non-Challenge reward they’d set the precedent of non-challenge rewards like the ones listed in OP. Right now they obviously only want XP rewarded from challenges, not from, you know, experiences.

Ye, that’s just bad. As you said people are gonna go out of their way to just complete the challenges and not actually play the game and have fun, and be rewarded for being creative and popping off in the game.

It’s so satisfying to see the XP go up from each little thing you accomplished in a game, each medal, and then a challenge on top of it. All the incentives are just wrong. It’s the beta so I still have hope they’ll change it, along with the menu interface and all that.

They want us to get XP only from challenges but they couldn’t even do that right, even if they did, it will still be a really bad system. So it’s a no brainer to change it.

Your suggestion is basically the first steps of a classic halo progression system. I think they will eventually go back to that sort of system, it will just take time.

343 had full confidence in their challenge-based system, so likely didn’t work on a more classic system at the same time. Though they have the MCC as a reference for how to do it. Fingers crossed they can pull one off for Season 2 in May.

It already goes like that.

People have NO INCENTIVE to do anything but Challenges. I already see people in game running around ignoring the objective because they’re just there do get Mauler kills or something. And I can’t blame them. If you’ve spent money on the pass, then the best thing you can be doing is getting your money’s worth out of it by advancing it. You get NOTHING out of playing the objective or winning a match.

Yep, it’s just absurd. Now I can focus on a game fully, cap every zone, cap every flag, hold all the balls and top frag in all the leaderboards. No matter, someone who performed poorly will get the same 50XP as me. Hell even worse someone who is practically AFK and chases around the map doing challenges and ignoring objectives gets more XP and progression than me. I’ll keep repeating this: the game needs 100 xp per game, 150 per win.

Speaking of AFK, I actually wonder if someone just turned on some sort of auto-input program on their PC then left for the night if they’d just wrack up XO completing games overnight by doing nothing.
