Base, Passive, Active

Looking at Halo 3 we can see 3 types of abilities each player does or can possess.

Base abilities - Jog, jump, crouch. You spawn with these abilities.

Passive abilities - Overshield, Active Camo. These abilities modify your attributes. They require no input from the player.

Active abilities - Equipment. These abilities modify the the environment or players in the environment. They DO require input from the user.

Using this frame work, share your ideas for a single unique ability or your “master plan” for how all abilities should work.

wonders why OP is suggesting talking in terms of the Halo 3 system - seems rather regressive

Can you honestly not see how this exact frame work applies to Reach? Replace equipment with armor abilities for Active abilities. Now that we have established that I’m not talking about JUST Halo 3, do you have a useful comment?

But you are using Halo 3’s system as an example to get more and better responses? Anyway, the master plan is to put equipment like they were in halo 3, into halo 4.

No active abilities. They have no place in the game.

No. I have incorporated certain armor abilities from Reach into my master plan’s base abilities.

Disregard the Equipment section for my ideas on base abilities

I would also have the function of selecting grenade type be moved to the d-pad with each directional dedicated to switching to a specific grenade type instead of having to cycle through 4 grenade types with one button.

This would open up the B button for deploying equipment.

Active abilities yes. But passive abilites like camo and overshield simply aren’t a concept in standard Reach since they have duplicates in the ‘active’ department.

pretty simple how they should work the jump and crouch stuff stay the same.

the equipment like drop shield and invisibility return to how it was in halo 3 just pickups.

they should not do what they done with Armour abilities and make them that they recharge it should just be a one use thing then it re spawns.

that’s what i think.

I like the equipment system of H3 and would much rather see it return than AA. Most of the AA wouldn’t make half bad equipment either, so it would probably please both crowds.

343i would just have to make sure they are balanced, such as AL only having like one use, etc.

> No active abilities. They have no place in the game.

That’s where you’re wrong, active abilities do have a place in the game, if you don’t like them, don’t use them, yes you got to deal with others who use them, but here’s the thing, the good active abilities are ones that both the player, his team, and his enemy can use, like the Bubble shield, power drain, radar jammer, flare, and grav lift. Spawning with these off the bat, is a bad idea, which is part of why every one hates AAs, because every one spawns with it, and there is no fight to get the armor lock, or jet pack.

Now in regards of how the OP stated Halo 3 instead of Halo Reach, think about it people, if he would of stated “Looking at Halo Reach we can see 3 types of abilities each player does or can possess.” there would be a lot of anti reach posting in this thread, because most of the people here on these forums see the word “Reach” or “COD” the first thing they do is go crazy, and start posting how what ever the OP is trying to point out is stupid and bad for Halo. both COD and Reach has it’s cons and pros, and being narrow minded, and only seeing those game’s cons, isn’t a good way to judge them.
