Base Game Package

So we know that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is free. We also know that the Campaign has a price.
What comes with the Campaign?
After trying out a few of the more popular F2P games, like Fortnite and Apex Legends (and not enjoying them too much, I might add), I began thinking about how the relationship between Halo Infinite’s base game and it’s multiplayer will function. Here are the guiding questions:

  • What might players unlock, regarding multiplayer options, by purchasing the full game? - Will buying the base game totally open up access to all features of the entire game? Or will there still be many in-game purchases? - To what extent will the multiplayer be like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and other F2Ps? (Regarding in-game purchases and “battle pass”)These are all questions meant to speculate about. I’m sure 343 will answer them in the future, but my recent exposure to the reality of F2P games has me worried.
    Here are my preferred answers to these questions;
  • By purchasing the base game, players unlock the campaign, a variety of customization coatings, and have complete access to all that the multiplayer offers. Players who purchase the base game also gain early access to many of the game’s future updates and DLCs.
  • Buying the base game provides access to all facets of the game. Some coatings, other customization items, and DLC’s may still require money to access. But most of the customization features can be acquired simply by buying the base game and accomplishing challenges, events, etc in the base game.
  • F2P Multiplayer will greatly limit the number of customization options open to players. Players that do not own the base game will be unable to qualify for any season rankings. There are many rewards that come from ranking higher in the ranked matches, which players that do not own the base game cannot access either. F2P players cannot access the campaign, any of the customization options accessed through the campaign, and do not have access to DLCs. No “battle pass”. (F2P players may even potentially be unable to access forge? I don’t really play forge, so I don’t know how that could effect the game, positively or negatively.)

I don’t really know the effects of these solutions on the player base, sales, gameplay, forge, and customization, but I feel that they are acceptable solutions to the F2P/Base Game dilemma. Type your thoughts on what buying the base game unlocks for players, besides the campaign.

I’m betting there will be a lot of free Armor Coatings with the paid game. I’m thinking Forge paid as well.

Locking the f2p players out of ranked doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Maybe the f2p accounts need to meet a certain XP threshold so that it doesn’t get nutty in ranked, that would be good.

I’m thinking along the same lines here as well. I’m not sure how they will approach any firefight mode though…I could see this being lumped into the paid portion but also easily see it being F2P as well.

It should at least come with something, like from completing quests in the paid campaign so it would be free rewards

I agree, it’s a bad idea. They already stated multiplayer will be free for everyone, they even removed the need for XBL Gold, locking some of it behind a $60 or £50 pawall is a terrible idea, it will not go down well at all if they backtrack.

As for the OP. No one knows what will come with the purchase of campaign. I’m eagerly waiting for that information but I expect 343i to remain silent for some time.

Free to play will probably only include multiplayer.
The rest will probably include campaign, possibly forge and customs, and my guess is an unannounced mode that could be the big thing in Halo Infinite. Microtransactions are mostly armor coatings, vehicle coatings and weapon skins so shouldn’t interfere with gameplay. As for payed dlc, I could see dlc eventually becoming that down the road, but I expect it to be free for the first 2-3 years.

Maybe there could be a special armor or coating if you preorder the game, similar to if you preordered H5 then you would get locke armor

Well, my opinion is, that if you purchase 60$ campaign, you get everything. Maybe even some exclusive coatings?

Pretty sure Battle Pass will be a thing. Easiest and most successful way to monetise f2p.

i myself see forge as an multiplayer segment.

I agree. I think having forge tied to the paid campaign is a bad idea. I believe multiplayer and forge will be free to play and always online. But, 343i are good at great ideas and annoying parts of the community at the same time. So I won’t hold my breath, I also think there will be more bombshells along the way on this topic, and not good ones.

Halo 5 Forge was free on PC and included custom games. I think its more than safe to assume that Forge, Customs, and maybe even Theater, will all probably be included with the free multiplayer.

Well that is what belongs in mp right? But base game(60€) should have everything already included imo.
