Base Building is no longer needed

Halo Wars was always a action RTS. You would always end up in full combat in the matter of 5-10 minutes and most matches Ended in about 30 minutes. Base building really and honestly serves no purpose for a RTS designed for fast combat like this.
In my Honest opinion find base building for a face pace series like Halo slow and boring and unneeded. you could already see that when you could tank rush in less then 5 minutes in the original. I believe a spawn system like Wargame and Men of War would be perfect for Halo for it would be fair and balance and keep combat and action fast pace. And believe it or not, there is still a lot of strategy on your choice of units and doing your best to keep them alive. I always felt Base building served no purpose for the Fast pace action that Halo Wars was all out. One reason why the base building system was as reduced at it was. You could see the Developers realizing this with game modes like Reinforcements game modes in Halo Wars’s later life cycle. Debate me if you wish. But you have to realize Halo Wars wasn’t a true strategy game and more a bum rush simulator.
With a system like Wargame or Men of War. Tactics would be key, yet action would be fast and instant within a minute or so from the moment you place your units on the field. in the style that Halo Wars felt like it was meant to play
An excellent example of Wargame gameplay and style of combat
An equally excellent example of Men of War gameplay and style of combat
If you want to try these games out and see for yourselves, I’ll leave links to the games themselves
Wargame: Red Dragon
Men of War: Assualt Squad 2
I know you base building enthusiast will defend it to the death, feel free. you won’t sway me. You all beg for more options. But you have to remember, the more you focus on base building, the slower the combat becomes. You see it with Company of heroes, Command and conquer, and the new Act of Aggression. It just. to boring and unrealistic to me.
This is just my opinion.

Star Wars: Empire at War, a fairly great RTS, had pre-built bases. At least, during normal matches. In Galactic Conquest mode you had to build structures on each of your planets. And even in normal matches, if your building was destroyed you could rebuild it to continue producing units from that structure.

But personally, I prefer Company of Heroes style gameplay where it’s slow. If an RTS match is over in a matter of minutes, I find there to be something wrong with that. It needs to last an hour at least.

depending on use of strategy. Matches on MoW, WG, And HW can last and Hour. The matches in wargame can last a long time for you have whole divisions on the field. But the average match in Halo Wars last about 30 - 40 minutes.

And SW: EaW furthers my point. You may build bases, but once the planet is invaded, the attacker only has what he has with him (Which could be hundred of units) and the defender only has 10 units plus what ever Garrison units the “bases” spawned. But there was no real actual units that are constantly build during a match. And if your talking about Multiplayer. They have a system like HW for you only have the one base and thats it, no base building. Just buy units and spawn. So it is another game with 0 base building

Too me if an RTS game is over in a few minutes then what’s the point in playing a Real Time Strategy Game? IMO, keep the base building and add more to it.

Halo Wars’ only game was an action RTS.

Match length depends on how the game is meant to play. Also, how fast you get into actions also depends on how the game is made. Not only that, but I’ve played few RTS games in my days where you weren’t able to get into combat in the first 5 to 10 minutes. In Starcraft 2, quite a few matches ended within the first 10 minutes when I played with a friend of mine. Seeing as they’re also decreasing the time in Legacy of the Void at the startup of the match by giving you double the initial workers, action will be seen even quicker and matches could end even faster.
