Banshees in Arena/Social

I feel like they’re a tad bit overpowered. I’ve been in two games in succession where a Banshee pilot has been dominating us because the Banshee Bomb dive attack. Half our team, if not all our team, decides to swat the thing, and it takes us far too long to finally get it out of the way. I even managed to pick up a Rocket Launcher, to no avail. The Banshee pilot just did the same B Bomb air trick, and I died, yet again, my rocket sailing off into the distance.

I know Halo 5 has stopped receiving major updates, but this is incredibly frustrsting. It makes maps where Banshees are present unbalanced and far less fun than their counterparts.
Does anyone else have any major issues with the Banshee in Arena/Social?

It seems like all flying vehicles are hard to deal with unless you have a power weapon like a rocket laucher.

Rocket Auncherd are great vs the Wasp, but Banshees can easily evade them.

I have a feeling a lot of the vehicles in this game were designed around Warzone, the idea that you can spawn in with a rocket launcher or other power weapon to swat them with.
Spawning in with a Battle Rifle and Assault Rifle ain’t gonna cut it.

Plasma Pistols and Grenade Launchers are great against diving Banshees. EMP them while they’re descending and they’ll either spin out of control or be open for a hijack.

I thought this thread was from a long time ago before I saw the date. The Banshee has been nerfed significantly with its flips so it’s not really as much of a threat as it used to be. With the rockets or any lock-on weapon, it’s best if you try to be sneaky with them before shooting it so the pilot won’t see it coming.

I’m guessing you were on Altar since it’s the only map with rockets and a Banshee. On that map, you also have the plasma pistol, laser and hydra as weapon counters so you’ll want to focus on getting those as a priority if your team isn’t helping to shoot it.

A really good Banshee pilot can definitely be hard to counter, but if the map contains a Plasma Pistol, Laser, Hydra, and Rocket Launcher then there is more than enough to counter it. The only real issue is if the team that the Banshee is part of is also in possession of all the power weapons and dominating the map heavily. At that point I could understand and sympathize with your sentiments, but I don’t know your exact scenario.

It takes some good teamwork, and/or a hearty power weapon to take down a Banshee. If you’re lacking one or both of those things then it’ll be rough for sure.

I would say annoying but not op if you know what you are doing and with some coordination

Yeah, I see what you guys are saying. The worst is spawning and instantly being B Bombed, especially on larger maps with wide open spaces, like Viking. Viking is obviously the worst for this, as it lacks any meaningful tracking weapons, and I find the Spartan Laser either impossible to get to, or very hard to use (thanks for placing Snipers in the bases, map designer). Add on to that the vast majority of in the open spawn points…

I think my frustration is that a lot of the maps where the Banshee spawns are wide open with far and few between areas to hide in when the Banshee is harassing you. Even worse when you get spawn killed before you have any chance to fight back, or die before you’re capable of using whatever you’ve found. Some of my frustration would be alleviated if the shield for the Banshee wasn’t in place, meaning I can at least get it a little bloody before it kills me.

I agree that Viking is the worst and I don’t really like that map in general. Best thing would be to try and get the plasma pistol if you spawn by the rock tunnels on either team. The plasma caster isn’t that great for Banshees, but it can also help if you can sneak over to grab it. I’d take the long way and stay close the rock wall if you’re team doesn’t have top mid control.

I’d say Viking is the only real offender. Altar is open, but it has a lot of structures to hide in and all the rock formations are a good counter on Echoes. Ancestor is smaller and also has a lot of spots where you can take cover from it. My advice would be to wait until the Banshee is moving closer to you and then thrust out of the way right when it fires. Usually, people won’t fire from a longer distance since it lessens the chances of a hit. If the pilot is doing the accelerated bomb fire, then you’ll want to thrust a little earlier, but I think a lot of the dodging in general is just based on your intuition.
