Can someone please explain how backing out of the stats screen warrants an 8 hour ban?

To answer your question:

Because that match isn’t what banned you. Your last 2 DNFs (Husky Raid and Tank World) in a row are what banned you. On top of which you have 2 more DNFs today, 5 yesterday, and 4 the day before.

That’s 13 DNFs in under 3 days.

Why does that matter? 343i doesn’t pay us to play their game…is this a full time job or something?

You’re right, you paid them to play their game, and you agreed to follow their rules while playing it or face the banhammer.
