Banning for social, insentive to play different games. Not to stop quiting

I’ve been put into BTB matches that have already started while solo queuing. There is a join-in-progress set up in this game.

Right, so like Overwatch. Or let us retain rank if somebody quits first like H5.

Sorry not sorry I play for me alone! Only time wins and loses matter if it’s ranked.

That’s your right but it’s not going to win you many friends being so self centred. Hopefully for your sake you show more consideration for other people in other areas of your life.

A win is a win to me no matter what mode. Every mode is based on competing to defeat the enemy. While I absolutely can have fun on the losing team it’s greatly reduced when my team never stood a chance, which often happens when a player quits out at the start.

alright, but

what if literally nobody playing that match wants to play that mode?

There is no recourse.

everybody play the match mode you don’t like.

This seems like trying to make a problematic situation where none exists. If you have comms with your team and know they don’t wish to play the mode you can all quit no problem.

If you don’t have comms with them, then you don’t know how they feel about the mode and we are back to the original argument of showing consideration for other players at a small expense to your enjoyment. There’s a very high probability that at least one of them wants to play the mode.

no you can’t. you’ll still get banned for quitting social. what are you talking about?

Edit: “making a problematic situation where none exists.”

It’s a game. It’s meant to be played for enjoyment. You’re making the argument that you should continue to play it even when you’re not enjoying it, and you should do so because other people might be actually interested in playing the mode. The problem that exists is that this game has many combinations which are very unfun to many people. That problem exists. Because it’ll give you 25 purple rain matches in a row before it gives you ninja slayer.

I suppose one way it could be fixed is by making it a paid game. Then, people would be more averse to quitting because they would risk being banned for something they were paying for. Of course, then you shrink the player base even more…

You get banned for quitting multiple social games in quick succession. Get back to me when you have multiple consecutive games where everyone is on comms and wants to quit so that you actually get banned if you do it. You’re just making up highly improbable scenarios to create problems that actually don’t exist or are so uncommon as to be a complete non-issue.

I have no issue with people leaving a game every so often for various reasons. I just think it’s common decency to consider the impact of your actions on other people.

Edit: Yes it’s played for enjoyment but it shouldn’t be all about about you and your enjoyment every single moment. If everyone thought and acted that way it wouldn’t be any fun for anybody.

First you say,
“You’re making up highly improbable scenarios”
and then you say,
“Get back to me when you have multiple consecutive games where everyone is on comms”

what game are you playing?

I stand by both of those statements, although you’ve cut off the second part.

I’m just saying I don’t think that you will be in the situation where you whole team wants to quit the game enough times in a row to get banned. If you play in a squad of 4 friends and you all dislike the same modes that much then you are probably playing in the wrong playlist or even playing the wrong game. If you are unlucky and your team gets the same mode repeated a few times, then your team needs to decide if getting a short ban is worth it to avoid playing a game mode they don’t particularly like just once. Can’t see it being a regular problem.

Honestly, we’re talking about ten minutes of inconvenience when a mode you don’t like pops up.

Now, if the mode comes up multiple times during a session, I get it more.

Ultimately, I don’t care if people leave social matches - sure, I want to win,but more importantly, I want to do better than my teammates. If we lose, and I played great, I’m okay with it. If we win, and I was trash, who cares about the win?

AND if you say you don’t like it, they respond with “tough crap, not enough players to enjoy the mode you like, you must play the mode we like…And even though I don’t care about you, I expect you to care about me because I think I’m good…”it’s absolutely insane thinking lol

This is why I believe MCC works so well, because you can filter what you want to play. Infinite does not have this tool and it’s hurting.

Because I mean lets be real not everyone wants to play attrition. and the fact it is in quick play too really annoys me.

Though honestly I think they bunch everything up because the player base is too small. If you have 50 different playlists the chances of finding a match would almost be zero. They did this in Halo 5 when people weren’t playing it enough so they bunched everything together. I think another good solution for this then is maybe make a system where you choose games you don’t like and it will decrease the chances of getting that game type. This would help both sides because then 343 doesn’t have to worry about issues with finding games and the community doesn’t have to play game modes they hate as much.

I can imagine this to an extend. But if you don’t even have a seperate objective playlist is a bit to extreme. Objective players are a significant part of the community, so they deserve a playlist.

In Arena (4v4) you have multiple different types of slayer playlists (Team Slayer, Tactical Slayer, Fiësta, etc.) but 0 objective playlists. Objective players have to play Quick Play, where half of the matches is slayer (either slayer or attrition) as well. I do believe that is a problem. Just remove Slayer (you can already play that in Team Slayer) and attrition (just make that part of a rotational playlist) and rename that playlist to Team Objectives. Objective players then are still worse of then Slayer players (objective players still have all objectives lumped together, wich would be a bit the same as putting Team Slayer, Tac Slayer and Fiësta in 1 playlist), but at least they have their own playlist

For BTB and Ranked you have a bigger problem, because there is just 1 playlist. Objective players can’t chose an objective mode and slayer playlist can’t chose a slayer mode. I think those should both have a slayer playlist and an objective playlist (so Ranked Slayer, Ranked Objectives, BTB Slayer, BTB Objectives).

I think this would already make it a bit better, because people who like BTB or ranked but don’t want to play slayer can choose so, or if they DO want to play slayer they can also chose so.

Yes it makes the most sense to do that but I just never see it happening. That is why doing what I suggested is the next best thing.

No thats not what I mean. I mean leaving matches and able to come back. You can join in matches with friends and in-progress matches as long as there is space. However, if you leave that match, you can’t come back and then that’s where the problem of leaving games come from.

The danger around this is that it can be loopholed. If you just leave before matches end, you prevent any loss. Then you can argue to get a mitigated loss, but that just “softens” the problem.

Only way I see it, is to report and punish those that leave. However, problems out of the player’s control (Wifi, crash, packet loss) that happen in the beginning of the match deserve an opportunity to forfeit before anything has yet happened. Similar to what League of Legends does.
