No.
Social games should not punish you for leaving, period.
Only ranked should punish you. Nothing else. It’s social for cry sake. It’s supposed to be a joke and fun, not an absolute sweat fest.

Problem is all of halo is a pure sweat fest atm. I don’t have gold so I can’t play mcc or halo 5, from what I hear they aren’t nearly as sweaty is halo infinite.
Social bans aren’t even severe in this in the first place. You can quit like 10+ matches before a penalty is issued. If someone is quitting that many times back-to-back, maybe they ought to just play something else, because they clearly don’t wanna play Halo.
I agree. Ranked should be where penalties are focused.
Just because it’s social doesn’t mean it has to be some lawless wasteland with no integrity. I play mostly social and don’t mind when people quit matches. Sure it can be annoying, but they likely have their reasons.
C’mon, ask yourself, Why are people quitting more in Halo Infinite than in any other Halo game?
Halo is fun. Infinite is a joke. There’s a very fine line.
I’ve never got a quit ban even when I’ve quit close to 10 games in a row. I think its because I already had like 300 games played before I went through that phase of quitting. I dont quit for challenges anymore because it was boring and ineffective compared to just using a challenge swap. I would rather pay $2 for challenge swaps if I ever run out of the 10+ challenge swaps I have versus sitting there dashboarding for 30 mins instead of playing the game. Theres no point of doing challenges for experience when its a 6 month season so I only use swaps on the rare occasion that there is a cool weekly ultimate
It’s actually between 3 and 5. I can’t remember the exact number.
Also, it’s not a ‘lawless’ whatever. It’s a game. It’s a social experience. You cannot change my mind that quit bans in social should not exist and are beyond stupid.
I’ve had higher numbers, but I’ll take your word for it.
You’re right. It is a game. And game’s should be fun.
You know what isn’t fun? Starting every match with a missing player having the bot feed the enemy points.
It’s a game. And people should play the game instead quitting every single game. I said earlier that there are valid reasons to quit a match. And I don’t mind if someone quits because they aren’t having fun (god knows I have). Like you said: It’s a game, and people should be having fun. But Infinite’s structure isn’t set up for “fun”.
No it’s not. There’s no pre/post-game lobby, you can’t talk to the enemy, etc. But this can be improved with time.
Then quit responding to me if you aren’t open to listening to what I have to say. I’m listening to you. And believe it or not, I don’t even completely disagree with your stance (and you have a good one).
Perhaps 343 should question people why they quit and do something (if possible) about the reasons that make people quit.
Just let the game pop up a small window where you can put in your reason why you quit (with a textbox, so you can type in what the reason is) and they learn from that.
I mean can give you a few reasons and their solutions right now:
“I don’t like this map.”
Solution 1: Bring back Map Voting or Veto system. I think Behemoth would see a lot less play (and less quitting when it did get voted) if players could choose to play on it or not. Voting/Veto makes it so the majority of people playing a map actual want to be there.
Solution 2: Make better maps that people would like to play.
“I couldn’t complete my challenges in this match.”
Solution 1: Re-work the challenge system from the ground up. Make it like MCC, bring back Commendations. Reward players with season token that can be spent in a never-expiring prize pool.
Solution 2: Everyone should have the same challenges.
Solution 3: Make Challenges more broad. A Ninja is a Backsmack. A Sneak King is a Backsmack. An Achilles’ Spine as a backsmack. THEY’RE ALL BACKSMACKS!
This applies for slayer challenges that don’t count quickplay, SWAT, BTB Slayer and Fiesta as slayer even though they are all slayer variants.
“The game was laggy.”
Solution 1: Allow server selection.
Solution 2: Don’t release a laggy-yoink game in the first place.
“The match was unfair.”
Solution 2: Remove Social MMR/SBMM/CSR (or whatever) and let player just embrace the chaos.
Solution 3: Bot Slayer shouldn’t affect MMR/SBMM/CSR (or whatever).
“My team quit.”
Solution 1: If a player quits while already missing 1 or more teammates, they shouldn’t be penalized.
Solution 2: All of the above. Don’t make a game that frustrates players to the point pathological quitting.
EDIT:
“I don’t want to play BR/AR starts.”
In my experience that is already the current situation, matches are rarely balanced. This is one of the reasons people quit, because they don’t like playing a match that is already lost from the beginning and you still have to be 10 mins in that BS.
They should not remove team balancing, but finaly ADD it.
For the rest i can mostly agree with you. Only map voting/vetoing i don’t agree with. I rather see that before searching you can select all the maps you want to play on, so you already get coupled with people who also want to play on that map. With vetoing or voting you could still get the map you don’t want and people would still quit for that reason
Yep, kinda sucks eh? That is why I play Custom Games Only!. I don’t like the rules. Sorry. ![]()
This is a little more complicated than I made it sound. What i mean is that a fairly balanced match can be the most frustrating to play sometimes because neither team can really gain a foothold over the other. 0-0 Games of Total Control show this.
Also smurf’s are gonna smurf, so a “balanced match of Golds” could end up with some hidden Onyxes in there.
Or do what H5 did and allow player to expend or focus their search to either find games quickly or find balanced games but slower.
Yeah, that would be better. I also forgot to mention that playlists should be removed in favor of MCC’s match composer. These are pretty much the same premise.
I dont care what anyone says youre not a bad person for quitting social matches. 343i should get rid of this challenge system.
THE solution: Allow me to view a servers list (ol’ good “Internet Lobby” aka “Game Browser”) and choose what map I want from the buffet.
Abandoners are a big enough problem, I could care less what it’s called. It needs to be addressed…
Total Control is just an overall bad gamemode if you ask me, but i have seen TC matches end within 2 minutes, that bad the team balancing is.
Also i think team balancing in 4v4 matches is way more important then in BTB matches. I have no problem that BTB matches can be off a little (although they can be off to much), but 4v4 should be fairly even. I play mostly 4v4 and i rarely see an balanced match.
And with balanced i also don’t mean that every person should be gold-tier, but that teams should be equally skilled. I have had enough matches where the enemy team was all about my skill, but all 3 of my teammates were way weaker skilled then me. I get that offmatches happen from time to time, but now it’s happening all the time. And at least let the system see that if someone loses or wins way to much, that it recognises that that player needs a win, so the offmatch will be a correcting one. Having to lose almost every match for 4 weeks already with good k/d’s is just infuriating, just like winning every match without effort gets boring. If you want to retain players, people needs to both win and lose. Sure it shouldn’t be 50-50 all the time, but if someone wins more then 60% almost every day or win less then 40% every day, that is just off.
Smurfing should be made illegal. No problem with a normal alt, but deliberately making an alt to get matches below your skill level (smurfing) is a form of griefing (also making the account get bad stats to get into easy matches is griefing) and they should be banned, together with their main account. And again: if it’s a normal account where people play normally and therefore is also a reflection of their skill, no problem there.
No, quitters are not the problem, they are the results of problems.
You want to stop the problem of people quitting, you need to adress the causes and don’t put bandaids on it that don’t even work and only give griefers the upper hand.
Yeah… Sorry, but no can do kiddo…
If they don’t care about anyone but themselves in a match, I could careless what happens to those turds… Let them be banned till they leave the game for all I care. They’re neither needed or wanted by anyone that matters.
Should you then also be banned? You don’t seem to care about others too as you display in that message…
I don’t care about people that first don’t care about me. When I play I do my best to never quit, and I believe of all the games I have played I’ve only left 5 games total listed as DNF.
I actually care about other peoples fun as much as my own when I play.
So you have also quit. Should you have a long ban for that?
Let’s be honest, there are many reasons people quit and also a lot of reasonable ones.
Also quitting can sometimes help your team, if there is someone on your team who is way outskilled and can’t get any kill, it’s often better that he quits to be replaced by someone who can play.
I personally rather have people who don’t want to play quit then the alternative they do, AFK’ing or just hiding, since that leaves you a player short.
Ofcourse this is another case in ranked, since there you won’t get a replacement and you leave your team a player short.
