Banned for 2+ hours for no reason????

Ok so i was just banned for over 2 hours and I have no idea why. I was on my 4th game of Slayer tonight and suddenly “Banhammer Strikes!”. It said my ban time was 2:16:08… !!! The extremely pathetic thing for 343 is they don’t even tell me why. Was it from quitting a game in my last session the night before? Did I get negative feedback or something from another player?

A 2 hour ban is crazy excessive, definitely enough to ruin your night. This is a game I paid for, that I can’t play, and I don’t know why. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if someone made a lawsuit out of it. Seriously, 343 is getting way bigger than its britches on this excessive banning stuff, especially when not giving a reason or warning beforehand. Sheesh!

RuthlessSkate will probably be here eventually and tell you to feed the ban thread. Did you kill your teammates, suicide, or quit? I highly doubt it was for no reason.

You have managed to accumulate four DNF games in your last 26 Arena matches. As a result, a 2-hour ban should not be so shocking that the exclamation point on your keyboard gets stuck. You received sufficient “warning beforehand” when you already knew that you aren’t supposed to quit in the middle of a game.

I have logged over 2800 games of Halo 5 matchmaking since the game was launched, have never quit in the middle of a match, and have never been banned. Not a coincidence, folks!

Shh, I’ll make it first.

To the ban thread!

You’re a real hero, thank you for being such a great example for us all. Did you respond to this thread to brag or would you actually like to shed light on this very real problem? I just finished my 4th match of Slayer tonight, no quitting, no betrayals (unless they were accidental and I don’t recall them?). I was banned after the match was over, and by the way I was on a 3 person team vs 4 and stuck in there, so weird. A 2 hour ban is no minor limitation to the product enjoyment or mere slap on the wrist. The problem is that
(1) I DON’T KNOW WHY I WAS BANNED. THEY. DO. NOT. TELL. YOU… THAT IS A PROBLEM.
(2) I DID NOT KNOW I WAS ON THIN ICE OR HAVE ANY FOREWARNING. THIS IS ALSO A HUGE, HUGE PROBLEM IF A DEVELOPER IS LITERALLY GOING TO BAN ITS CUSTOMERS FROM PLAYING A GAME THEY PAID FOR.

Agreed… and quitting 4 times in 26 games is a habitual problem. As I said before, you received sufficient “warning beforehand” when you already knew that you aren’t supposed to quit in the middle of a game. As often as you quit, two hours actually sounds rather lenient to me.

Your Warzone Assault Match on Stormbreak ended with a DNF. You also have 5 DNFs this week.

You paid for a license to play the game. By playing matchmaking (or Xbox LIVE in general) you accepted that Microsoft/343i can ban you for not following the rules they set up.

They can actually ban you for any and all reasons they feel.

Good, I’m glad that it ruined your night. Quitters shouldn’t be allowed to ruin other people’s games, I’m glad that the banhammer is working.

Today I had people quit out of Arena games. One in CTF and one in Strongholds. Both times it cost us the match and ruined the experience. So perhaps your time out will make you think about your actions and how they affect other people.

I don’t understand why some go online and lie about their bans. “No reason”… just ignore my DNFs in my service record… “2 hour ban”… if you have a two hour ban this is not your first ban so yes you have been warned. Your first few bans are pretty short.

And I paid to play this game as well. Thing is, I didn’t buy it so I could play with teammates that quit on a seemingly regular basis.

-Yoink!-!!! Lol gg vegeto.

Gentlemen, I hate quitters too, but just think about the service record you’re all quoting and it proves I’m not a quitter. Do you guys work for 343 or something? Does 343 have forum enforcers to constantly defend the company’s $%&#-ups? I just played for 30-45 minutes for the first time today, no quitting, no betrayals, etc and then suddenly I was banned for over 2 hours after a game ended. That’s wild by any standards. I was not warned. I was not told how to avoid. I was not told why. That’s the truth no matter how much you want to point to little pre-canned, persistent fine print or some info on a website somewhere. A pre-canned message is not a specific warning and explanation of infraction or a clear outline of the consequences. It’s just not.

You’re pointing to my service record citing 4 out of the last 30 games as DNF… which only proves the point. Quitting just 13% of the last 30 games isn’t hardly justification for a 2 hour ban. That’s C R A Z Y and you know it.

On a different note I really appreciate the few of you who are honest enough to acknowledge this real problem, instead of just quickly jumping in to argue without thinking. (VirtualMark, common man those kinds of comments don’t help anyone. Why toot your own horn?)

nah you should get banned for quitting arena games. id understand your complaints if it was any not ranked playlist, but it wasnt

First of all, it was actually a DNF 4 out of your last 26 games which is about 15%, and I still think that a 2-hour ban is too lenient! You realize that you aren’t supposed to quit any games, right? The fact that you think that quitting “just 15%” of your games is no big deal says quite a bit about you.

I’m sorry, but you are a habitual quitter who ruins matches for those of us who never quit, and you are getting what you deserve.

…which is people who regularly quit in the middle of a match, and then have the audacity to blame the software company for not warning them enough. You personify an overdeveloped sense of entitlement.

Haha, dag this forum is cray. So many posts on this forum no matter the topic has like 10-1 detractors just because. There’s rarely an honest, open, or semi-friendly dialogue or considering of another viewpoint. It’s always one person is 100% wrong with no credibility or trace of truth in their position. Just look at some of these comments. “You need to think about your actions. I’m glad it ruined your night. I don’t want to play with quitters like you.” Unless you work for 343 you shouldn’t be taking that much offense. I guess that’s the nature of most forum hounds. It’s crazy so many of you can’t resonate even a tad, or maybe consider the mere possibility that something is wrong or in need of adjustment.

I do take consolation knowing you guys are just a small, vocal minority that loves to police the forums and defend 343. Meanwhile there’s a sea of halo players getting pissed off for 343s over-aggressive banning. I hope 343 doesn’t cater to you nut jobs. It will come back to bite them, I guarantee it.

See you hard gangsters in the Arena.

No one’s immediately calling you a quitter.

You have DNFs. DNFs lead to bans. The banhammers been doing nearly the same since Halo 3, when it was in Bungie’s hands.

I mean for -Yoinks- sake you have another DNF playing Super Fiesta. It was your second most recent game, on top of the 5 DNFs you already have this week. If you just got banned for 2 hours, you don’t think yet another DNF will ban you again?

There’s a glitch in the banning system that sometimes stacks bans drastically, So keep that in mind. (For example, a 10 minute ban can instantly go to a 4 hour ban within a game or two… This is due to some DNFs not being registered when the ban is first given to a player.)

What are you talking about?

Every time you try to pick a playlist, it tells you matchmaking rules are in effect. Betrayals, quits, disconnections, being idle, etc. will all lead to bans.

Every time you attempt to quit, it tells you that these matchmaking rules are in effect. Betrayals, quits, disconnections, being idle, etc. will all lead to bans. You even have to confirm the quit again once you hit that screen, so you’re either reading it and ignoring it, or not reading it an ignoring it. Either way it’s the fault of the player.

What will it take for it to be a “fair warning” without literally removing the “Quit” button from the pause screen? (which still won’t solve anything)

All right I’m listening…tell me why don’t the rules apply to you? Why are you special? What other rules/laws are you above?

Wrong. Quitters sabotage the honest efforts of everyone else on their team, so we have every right to take offense.

As I said before, the fact that you actually believe quitting “just 15%” of your games is acceptable is much more of a negative reflection upon you than it is on the ban hammer.

As much as you quit? Probably not.
