Banhammer

Matchmaking means a lot to me when it comes to Halo, it’s the engine that makes me keep playing Halo over and over, for hours and hours. One of the most important things to me in Matchmaking is the Ranking System. We haven’t had much info regarding it, but whatever we see in Halo 4 needs to be accompanied by a good banhammer and reporting system. Since Halo’s introduction to Xbox Live we’ve come across many problems such as:

-afk’ers - If someone is caught afk’ing on a frequent basis, they shall receive a suspension for X hours, upon each subsequent offense, the duration of the penalty shall increase.

-account fraud (buying and selling of accounts) - If someone is proven to be guilty of either the buying or selling of an Xbox Live Account, they should be banned immediately. No warnings or second chances.

-boosting - If a group of players are caught boosting, they should all receive a 1st warning of a suspension for X days. Upon being caught boosting again shall result in the banning of all participants in that party. (If you are wrongly accused you may try to appeal your suspension or ban)

-betrayals - If someone is caught betraying someone intentionally (trolling, betraying for weapons, helping the other team, etc. .) they shall receive a suspension for X hours, upon each subsequent offense, the duration of the penalty shall increase.

-cheaters (hacking, modding, etc. .) - If someone is proven to be guilty of cheating it shall result in the immediate banning of your account.

-leaving games - If someone is caught leaving games early on frequent basis, they shall receive a suspension for X hours, upon each subsequent offense, the duration of the penalty shall increase.

(let me know if you can think of anymore)

If you’re wondering how people will prove such things it’s really quite simple, Theater. Theater can be a powerful tool for users as they will be able to review footage, report people accordingly, and even upload the footage to their file share for download.

Whether if it’s your first time playing or if you’ve been playing since the beginning, a good banhammer and reporting system are something we need and something that will make the game much more enjoyable for everyone.

What would you like to see 343 do or implement to prevent and stop these things from happening?

How about one of my biggest pet peevs that your forgot: AFKers. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about them.

Thanks, dunno how i forgot that one… -_-

Updated. Please let me know what you think and what you would like to see 343 do to stop some of these problems. Thanks.

I would like an option to report for host booting/ip flooding. This type of report would help the 343 ban hammer attack the cheaters more efficiently. I would also like it to be a one time warning that is if you are caught cheating in halo 4 your console is banned from halo 4 matchmaking. It sounds strict but really a cheater is a cheater no matter how many chances you give them, Ive learned this through playing many years of online halo.

Agreed 100%. Team damage is party of Halo but gahdamn I hate team killers with a passion.

Betrayers. Accidents are acceptable, but betraying for weapons? For fun? Pisses me off sometimes.

What’s freaking hilarious is the following:

ALL THE TIME!!!

Funny how you didn’t mention cheating in a thread about he banhammer…

And lol banning people for selling access to accounts. People found an easy way to make a few bucks while providing something that people couldn’t achieve for themselves. Don’t hate.

I believe selling accounts is prohibited by the XBox Live Terms of Use.

Seriously? No boosting? That seems a little too far. I accidentally turned one of my accounts into a booster in Halo 3. Should I be banned for playing with my friends?

You are indeed correct, sir. However, the wording used in the sale is what is important. In actuality you can’t sell the account because you don’t own it, Microsoft does. You can sell the right to to use, or take controll of, an account though.

i think the boosting rule should also apply to those who “credit farm” in single player because they are ABUSING the game for their own benefit and i agree with Wickenheiser and his post : I would like an option to report for host booting/ip flooding. This type of report would help the 343 ban hammer attack the cheaters more efficiently. And while we are it lets set up police state!!!
Little draconian does need fixing but if started banning players for everything there be none left!!
Hate been betrayed for weapon. easiest way to fix it take out betral out f social matches

Does Microsoft accept such a distinction or does it still see it as a violation of the agreement and act accordingly?

They seemed to accept it for Halo 3 accounts. As long as the seller place some sort of disclaimer stating something along the lines of “The account is the property of Microsoft. You are not buying the account itself. You are buying access to its use” then people didn’t have any problems.
