Before Waypoint shuts down, let’s share our thought on the new M392 Bandit Rifle. Now that we have had a chance to use it, do you like it? Do you think it should replace the BR in ranked?
Let’s talk.
Keep it Clean!
And for anyone wondering, it’s a 5-shot headshot kill and a 7 shot body kill.

Do you think that it should replace the Battle Riffle?
I’ll be playing later tonight and will hopefully remember to circle back and let you know my thoughts of the game update.

It won’t replace it, they handle differently, I’m not sure if I like the zoom on the bandit.

I think it’s very punishing to use. I think I’d like it to be the ranked default starter.

It fires too slow. Loses to a Sidekick in a fight, easily. Just because that was how fast you HAD to fire it to compensate for bloom in Reach doesn’t mean that’s how fast it should actually shoot. >:/

I’m still getting used to it, but I enjoy using it. Definitely feels different, and definitely not as easy to use as the Commando or Battle Rifle.
@Cobalt242 The zoom has less recoil looking at the bullet marks if you go into the firing range.
@DraculActual I’m curious what the TTK is on it. SK has a super fast one, so that’s not surprising.
Its the inbetween. I feel like it can’t take duels, but its a good during a firefight with two teams.

It should absolutely not replace the battle rifle. It’s like a slower commando.

Feels pretty good to me. Not to long range but has good accuracy and feels satisfying at close range.
It’s like a very slow commando I’m not sure how you’d fare against someone with a faster weapon at the same range. at first glance I’d prob pass over this one for a different weapon but to be fair haven’t gotten to use it much so that’s my initial impression.
ngl I kinda think its way too weak and is not a weapon I would choose.
They did just nerf the Commando so I’m thinking it may be about even there but that doesn’t help versus the sidekick and BR.
It does feel satisfying to use though.

When looking at it out of the corner of my eye my brain always thinks its a commando, I keep expecting it to fire way faster than it does and to be automatic. I’m definitely going to need more practice with it but it seems ok. Still of the opinion that I would’ve rathered something more unique be added first, but people were dying for the DMR and a more reliable single shot precision weapon so they kinda got both.
Apparently a second flat on a perfect, very quick TTK
I like it, much better than the commando IMO. Kinda felt like the DMR. But not better than the needle rifle from Reach.

Makes no sense to nerf the commando which was already not great compared to the BR and then add another precision rifle that outclasses it.
No idea what 343 is doing.
Probably making decisions based on mouse users. Commando is significantly harder to use on controller.

Just wish they added it to the campaign and had the variant with a scope. I was really hoping to use it in the campaign as a training ground.

So even with the Sidekick. Thanks.
I was unable to play, but I watched some various streams and I couldn’t agree more with you Kason. The bandit rifle should NOT replace the battle rifles purpose.
It’s a little strange. I thought it would be more of a long range weapon and the lack of a scope/higher magnification keeps it from that. I guess that’s alright because it’s better than being hit all the way across a big team map like in Reach. Outside of how it seems to overlap a little too much with the Battle Rifle, have no strong thoughts on it yet. It seems like it would better compliment the Halo 3 Battle Rifle due to its reduced range via higher bullet spread.
I can really see why 343 increased the BR bullet spread a tiny bit a little while back. It’s the only way this version of the DMR could fit within the sandbox without being a copy of the Battle Rifle and without turning every larger map into a repeat of Reach by making it a laser instead. With a few more changes to the BR and DMR (I don’t know what changes yet, it’s too early.), the DMR could easily be the competitive weapon of choice later on due to its consistency.
P.S. I know it’s supposed to be called the Bandit Rifle. Old habits die hard.
