Balancing BR Starts

I’ve seen the community torn on issues like Sprint, but another conflict has popped up: AR Starts vs BR Starts.

The initial side argues that BR Starts promotes camping and renders weapon pick-ups that aren’t power weapons pointless.

The latter side argues that AR Starts promotes spawn camping and renders the team without BRs incapable of fighting back.

Both sides have suggested nerfs and buffs respectively, and I’ve thought of a middle-ground solution to avoid that.

Allow BR Starts, but lower the starting ammo.

Currently, the Battle Rifle starts with three full magazines of ammunition. That’s one initial fill and two reloads, or 108 (36 * 3) bullets in total.

Instead of three magazines, the BR should start with two.

The lowered ammo encourages weapon pick-ups and provides players with a reasonable means of fighting back after spawning.

Currently, players refill their ammo in BR Starts by looting it off of dead bodies.

With a 33.3% reduction in total ammunition, players would gain much less ammo from skirmishes. After all, it isn’t uncommon to go through a complete reload or two during an intense fight.

Although a dedicated BR user could continue using their weapon, they would eventually need to seek a BR pick-up (36 * 3 rounds) to replenish their weapon or trade it out for another weapon entirely.

Anyhow, that’s just my idea on getting the BR Starts on appeasing the BR Starts conflict.

Anyone? Anyone at all?

How about a seperate AR and BR start playlist for slayer instead of changing br starts from the way they have been since halo 2. We DONT need more changes when too many changes have been made already shedding halo of its identity.

While this is a plausable option, purists will hate that the BR doesnt start with 36 in the chanber and 72 extra. Another thing is, Is this really a problem? The final game will most likely have seperate playlists, so this all seems pointless to me. That being said, I wouldnt mind starting with less ammo, and this is coming from a guy who isn’t having fun unless he has his trusty BR.

I personally think both the AR and BR starts are great and the map design should determine the starting weapon. The problem IMO is map design and not enough maps to make it all work when the game is released to have playlist to make everyone happy.

If you read some of the posts already that have been up a lot of people are bored since its only two maps and if 343i thinks giving us 4 maps in slayer will work out they are in for a rude awaking when the population drops again. Offering a DLC isn’t an option and since Reach its been a complete failure for the players who have bought them.

The problem with splitting the AR and BR playlists is that the problems that exist in both will still do so.

Besides, changing the BRs starting ammo isn’t that significant of a change to the Halo identity. It still has its 36 rounds and 3-shot burst.
