Balance suggestions anyone?

I wanted to open a thread for constructive feedback on what people feel is wrong with the current state of Halo 5. I don’t want this to be a rant thread! Through playing for a few days, I’ve decided that I honestly DO like the game. However, there are a few balance issues that if 343i decided to address, the game would be more fun(IMO).

Short List:
-Radar range, I feel that in matchmaking it should have more range. You should have more advance notice that you’re running into 3-4 people >.<
-Grenade dmg/range, I feel the nades are OP. The trajectory is a little off IMO but I think I’m alone in that opinion. Maybe a range or spash dmg area nerf?
-Hitboxes. It definitely feels like the hitboxes are a little screwy. There have been times where I’ve told myself “there’s no way I hit that guy in the head”. Other times I’ve been credited body shots that were roughly visor level. IMO it feels a little off. Anyone else think so?
Autoaim: This -Yoink- is STICKY. getting into gun fights against multiple people is tough enough as is. It’s not made any easier that when the two opponents cross paths, the game drags your crosshair automatically. IMO the “sticky-ness” should be toned down.

There are a few other gripes that I have with the game but that could just be me not using it correctly. For instance, the spartan charge once pushed an enemy out of the way, instead of doing damage to him. It could have been a product of a little bit of lag and my timing, so I wouldn’t demerit the game for it.

What are your thoughts?

yea i agree with those. They desperately need to add more playlists, more social playlists and more maps. the content is so thin its boring. Ranks also need to be better visible i.e visible while in a party and enemies ranks visible

Radar range is definitely too small–I run into a lot of ambushes or get sniped by people with the AR as a result.

I do think something is up with the aiming and the hitboxes, and if I’m lagging the problem is compounded.

  • Reduce starting grenade count to 1. The grenades themselves are fine and still aren’t as powerful as Halo 1 grenades, it’s the grenade spamming that is the real problem. - Rank system needs to be fixed, in the meantime, provide a prompt for those who are “eligible” for a de-rank, asking them if they would like to de-rank. This will make everyone happy, those who don’t want to de-rank can say No and those who want to be placed in the correct rank can say Yes. This can be provided either after losing a game or by highlighting the playlist and clicking a button on the controller with a description on the screen as “De-Rank”. And this should also be a simple enough solution to implement. - Remove Breakout from Team Arena and from the HCS. There is already an entire game type dedicated to it and it does not take any skill in Halo. If you want a skilled, one life, round based game then play counterstrike. It is however a fun variant to the halo playlist, much like SWAT. Breakout’s skill level is closer to SWAT then CTF or Slayer. The other solution is to create an HCS playlist that does have Breakout and then have a Team Arena playlist that does not have Breakout. - In order to make breakout take more skill, add more cover in all the maps so there can actually be flanking and counter strategies because right now, you can’t use half the map since you will die instantly because of how open it is. Consider removing grenades as well. - Create a BR start Team Arena. This results in an AR/Pistol Team Arena and a BR start Team Arena making all players happy. It also provides more variation on how to play the game which is greatly needed. - Remove strongholds Plaza from Arena, it does not play well. - Remove or reduce the chance for Fathom and Rig to be selected in Slayer. Neither of these maps play well in Slayer. - Rig needs more BRs or DMRs on the map for any chance to play better and probably needs the spawns to be re-evaluated. - Regret only plays well with BRs so replace Carbines and DMRs on the map with BRs. In beta Regret played BR starts very nicely, but AR/Pistol starts were unbearable. - Fathom and Pegasus are just a bad maps across the board, no way to salvage it, remove from all playlists. And never bring Orion back! - Reduce Free for All from 8 players to 6. Do not allow someone on Pegasus to spawn on the OS!!! (I mean really, that’s just dumb). Add Truth, Eden and Empire to the Free for All rotation. Consider occasional BR starts in the rotation to mix things up. - Aim Acceleration - I have not encountered any issues with aiming, but fix it for those who have proven something is off. It is currently the only thing in Halo 5 that allows for a skill gap however, so if changes are needed due to bugs then please make the minimum changes needed to fix the bug, if you change this too much, the skill gap will greatly close due to how short time to kill is in this game. - If you listen to the ridiculous outcry to increase radar distance then either every playlist must be changed to BR starts or multiple arena playlists must be changed to no radar. One of the biggest reasons the AR/Pistol start is somewhat acceptable in this game is because the reduced range of radar balances the matches by allowing you to use map movement and level positioning to your advantage against someone who may have a better weapon then you. Also guess what, you have eyes, ears and a brain so you shouldn’t need radar on these small maps anyway, Halo is 10 times better without radar. Radar promotes cheap tactics such as pre-grenading before the enemy is in your Line of Sight, camping and nullifying any map movement strategies to outsmart your opponents. Also, the main reason people want a larger radar is because of sprint and spartan abilities which are things many halo fans have never wanted, so why don’t we remove them and then everyone would be happy? It just took reducing radar to realize it’s these additions to Halo that ruin their experience, not the radar. - Remove radar from Team Arena so you don’t ruin every playlist after you eventually give in to the casual fan base (who won’t be playing halo a month from now anyway) who want the radar range increase. - Remove instant spawns from SWAT. - Re-evaluate spawn points on maps for SWAT. - Adjust the “auto-lock-on” feature for the spartan charge. Or change spartan charge to how it was in the beta where it was a risk/reward ability. Right now it is too powerful and lands a hit almost every time.
