Balance Shock Rifle and Mangler

It is unfair that the Mangler can shoot / punch kill and the ShockRifle cannot. Either you nerf the Mangler or buff the shockrifle.
Community what do you think about this?

The guns are fine the way they are.

The shock-rifle is a sniper weapon, it doesn’t need the melee-buff since 95% of the targets you shoot with it are more than 10 meters downrange.

I don’t see why the weapons would be balanced with one another when they are completely different. The Mangler is a close range pistol and the Shock Rifle is a long range sniper.

Shock Rifle can kill in one shot, disable vehicles and damage multiple enemies at once.

Mangler is a three shot kill, but one of the best close range guns with a one shot beatdown.

Both weapons are beastly.

The possibility of using the ShockRifle at close range should not be excluded. In addition, the Mungler also works from medium / long distances. If from the middle distance the Mungler took less than 50% of the life then it would be right what you say. While the mid-range ShockRifle removes less than 50% if it hits the torso; this is not balanced

But there is no reason to balance the weapons, they aren’t even in the same rotation.

Makes far more sense to be discussing the Stalker Rifle and Shock Rifle as they are swapped out for one another in social games.

This is like comparing Rockets to the Skewer.

I like the guns the way they are. If you are trying to shoot a player with the Shock Rifle and then melee them for the kill, you’re using the weapon wrong. It functions best as a sniper and does a better job than the Stalker Rifle to boot. I actually even prefer it to the Sniper Rifle.

Yes, you CAN use any gun at any range.

However, each weapon has an optimal range of effectiveness.

I can snipe with a Mangler… if I want to waste ammo at long range target acquesition in a game where people are strafing and have Truster Packs & Grappleshots to maintain evasion.

I can use a sniper rifle in close-quarters, but it won’t be as effective at dispatching enemies as the Sword or Shotgun.

I do miss that :frowning:

Team Snipers will never be the same.

The S7 sniper rifle is a Power Weapon. Can kill with 2 body shots (like Shotgun) or with one head shot.
At close range the Sniper user still has the advantage against a Mangler or a Shotgun because they can kill with fewer hits. While the ShockRifle is less strong than the Mangler because it needs more body shots to kill. Halo is a math game.
@Ken_CTF What is Same rotation? In the Recharge Map there are both the ShockRifle and the Mungler

Shock rifle often rotates in and out of maps with the stalker rifle. Mangler often rotates in and out of maps with the disrupter.

YET the shock rifle still has a whopping huge blade on it despite just supposedly being a “ranged” weapon

343 should put the Brute shot in the game and have that be the Go-To “bladed” weapon since it has a very satisfying melee Animation and having the Brute Shot Melee being a 1 hit kill melee, able to Counter the Energy Sword, but without the lunge and as a defensive/deterent weapon, would be Perfect.

*** Nobody uses the Blade on the Shock Rifle or Ravager, making it pointless and only for aesthetics. ***

Meaning, the Brute Shot Melee would be a one hit kill, but it has no lunge, so it’s not overpowered, and a successful hit of a sword player would kill both players as a deterrent of sword players to attack knowing it would be an equal exchange, a kill for a kill if the Brute shot wielder lands the Melee

Brute shot Melee, however would not be viable against Grav Hammer so that it is counterable and not overpowered in a sort of rock-paper-scissors way.

The Brute shot feels WAY more satisfying to use than the Forerunner version and could be changed to feel distinct from the Cindershot.

I experienced this as well and kinda sat back like…what? Huh? Why?..

But lets take a closer look at perhaps the answers to those questions. The more that weapons become too alike, they become redundant and…just no longer diverse enough nor fit that niche role. The shock rifle has to differentiate itself from the sniper rifle, and create some diversity in the sandbox. Which it does.

Another pair of weapons that get scrutiny are the mangler vs the bulldog.

So someone can sit back and ask…why not have the sniper on recharge in place of the shock rifle? Didn’t they show someone doing a spectacular no scope in a trailer on recharge while using the grapple?

Hard to say. The shock rifle goes with the anesthetics of recharge though I suppose? Lol

I get the annoyance of it though. Whem you feel something should work a way it doesn’t, but how do you feel about the diversity of the sandbox? Would that be a good reason? Or do you feel it’s not necessary?
