I have spent some time now looking at what 343 has been doing with Halo and so far have been fairly pleased with allmost everything.
My only problem is with the Gameplay unlocks that people will get by playing multiplayer. It’s not that I think this is a bad idea in general, as I have allways enjoyed this in CoD (which is where this idea came from). My concern is that gameplay unlocks in Halo will auto-destroy numerous great things in Halo without any sort of benefit coming out of it.
First off, the benefits:
- Allowing the player to customize thier own loadouts allows them to play how they want to play in any given situation
- The level of satisfaction from playing the game goes up when you are rewarded in a meaningful way
And now, the problems that these benefits have when used in Halo
- Halo allready had loadouts to chose from, which handed the players access to most, if not all, the weapons and abilities that they might need
- Halo is allready amazing, I don’t need ANY reward for playing the game to still enjoy it
And Now, even more problems that will be introduced as side affects
- Having some players have access to unlocks that others don’t will make the game unfair by nature
- Alowing players to have whatever they want whenever they want will deminish the games ability to be unique (example: game without armor lock but with plasma pistols to combat vihicles)
- It will negate the contol that custom games and forge give the players
Just so we’re clear, I don’t expect 343 to revert back this late in development. My main hope is that they’ll either chose to lose gameplay unlocks in the next game, or allow some playlists to have forced loadouts so that fans that agree with me won’t be disapointed when the game launches.
I’m also very interested to see if you guys agree with me, or if I’m just full of s***.
