Bad Idea's

I have spent some time now looking at what 343 has been doing with Halo and so far have been fairly pleased with allmost everything.
My only problem is with the Gameplay unlocks that people will get by playing multiplayer. It’s not that I think this is a bad idea in general, as I have allways enjoyed this in CoD (which is where this idea came from). My concern is that gameplay unlocks in Halo will auto-destroy numerous great things in Halo without any sort of benefit coming out of it.

First off, the benefits:

  • Allowing the player to customize thier own loadouts allows them to play how they want to play in any given situation
  • The level of satisfaction from playing the game goes up when you are rewarded in a meaningful way

And now, the problems that these benefits have when used in Halo

  • Halo allready had loadouts to chose from, which handed the players access to most, if not all, the weapons and abilities that they might need
  • Halo is allready amazing, I don’t need ANY reward for playing the game to still enjoy it

And Now, even more problems that will be introduced as side affects

  • Having some players have access to unlocks that others don’t will make the game unfair by nature
  • Alowing players to have whatever they want whenever they want will deminish the games ability to be unique (example: game without armor lock but with plasma pistols to combat vihicles)
  • It will negate the contol that custom games and forge give the players

Just so we’re clear, I don’t expect 343 to revert back this late in development. My main hope is that they’ll either chose to lose gameplay unlocks in the next game, or allow some playlists to have forced loadouts so that fans that agree with me won’t be disapointed when the game launches.

I’m also very interested to see if you guys agree with me, or if I’m just full of s***.

I do think the unlocks are a bad idea. I played Halo 3 for years without some gimmick to “keep me coming back”. That being said, I don’t think all the changes 343i are making are bad. I just don’t like the thought of new players not having access to weapons simply because they didn’t buy the game on day one.

Load outs only allow utility weapons, basic starters, no power weapons. These weapons still spawn on maps and can still be picked up off the fallen.

Armor lock is out, period

There are also secondary Map specific load outs to choose from.

Custom load outs can be locked out in customs.

The only one that I agree with you on is the last one. But we’re not sure what the unlocks are. It might be nothing it might be new paint for your gun.

I don’t think you read his post and “Custom load outs can be locked out in customs” < how do you know that!

In setting up custom games there has always been an option to limit the weapons used within the game. There is no good reason that they would change this option.
