These 2 symbols are of the Didact (blue) and antagonist (red) http://www.forwarduntodawn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/mystery.png. They are similar yet not the same, so who do you think’s the buy guy?
probably someone/thing closely associated with the didact as they have very similar shapes meaning they probably had a similar point of origin
I believe the antagonist is faber (the master builder) and that the didact is actually trying to get the unsc’s help to stop faber. One thing I found that helps prove this is that the didacts cryptum didn’t engage the infinity in the trailer. It just hovered there. If he intended on destroying it he would have done it with no problem.

And did you see how Master Chief reacted to the Cryptum? He started lowering his weapon right after identifying it. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t start lowering my weapon away from that thing unless I knew, without a doubt, that it wasn’t a threat to me.
At this point, my theory is that the “ancient evil” is the captive (the supposed “last Precursor” from Halo Cryptum). I think it took control of Requiem and it’s defensive AI, so the Didact was forced to somehow trap it and himself on Requiem. I think the reason he’s in a Cryptum in the first place is because only an actual Forerunner (or possibly a human) can open up the exit doors off of Requiem, and only a Forerunner (or, again, possibly a human) can open his Cryptum. The Didact locked himself away from the captive so it couldn’t use him to escape from Requiem. So, basically, I think the Didact and the captive have been stuck at this stalemate for…a long time, just waiting for someone to show up and either help the Didact take back control of Requiem from the captive, or to set the captive free from Requiem.
Master Chief and Cortana arrive on Requiem and set the Didact loose…
“I have long dreamt of this day, Reclaimer.”
Makes sense to me.
Of course, my theory is subject to change, though.

I like this explanation.

I like this idea
The primordial was killed, there are currently no know precursors in the milkyway galaxy.
We have no idea if the Didact is the same didact as we have been reading about. It could very well be a corrupt entity. Further, Prometheans and other things have been pointing at the Didact since Halo CEA. Don’t forget about the terminals and circumstances with multiplayer maps, combined with the various novels, etc…
Amon
The didact has never hated humanity, he lead the forerunner war against humanity because the humans were pushed onto forerunner territory by the flood. The forerunners thought the humans were invading their land so they attacked them and de-evolutionized them. They later found out they weren’t attacking, just trying to escape the flood. The didact actually held a decent amount of respect for humans. The didact has never really been evil either. Faber on the other hand hated humanity, and all races lesser than the forerunners. He also used the halos once to punish the san shyumme( I know I spelled this wrong the “prophets race”). It makes way more sense that the ancient evil is faber because he actually was evil.
> The primordial was killed, there are currently no know precursors in the milkyway galaxy.
I take it you’ve read Primordium? I haven’t. Can’t wait to get my hands on it, though.
If not the captive or the “primordial”, could it be something else trapped on Requiem? Another Gravemind, maybe? I’d like to get feedback from someone who’s read all of the Forerunner saga.
Frankie seem to confirmed it was the Didact symbol in it’s unbound state (right one in OP). As the user had originally the Didact bound state (left one in OP).
No flood in halo 4 either.
Some believe precursors will return to the milkyway and be the new enemy but I find this to be highly unlikely. This is why I believe it to be faber.
am i the only one who can see the didact being angry at humanity for pretty much being the reason his girl (the librarian) was taken from him?
I seriously doubt that the Didact would be capable of the irrational behavior to blame humanity for the Librarian’s death, especially since the Librarian held them in such high regard and one would think that the Didact would keep that in mind. I think the Faber theory is very possible, I still need to read the books though so I’m basing my opinions on the scraps of information that I get without them.
> No flood in halo 4 either.
> Some believe precursors will return to the milkyway and be the new enemy but I find this to be highly unlikely. This is why I believe it to be faber.
It’s not a bad theory. Only thing I don’t understand is: “An ancient evil awakens”. Why would Faber be asleep on Requiem instead of out causing trouble elsewhere in the galaxy? That, and I don’t think Faber quite fits the bill. “An ancient evil awakens”… Faber, the Master Builder? Really? Seems like a major let-down to me.
If the Captive is dead, I’m going with another Gravemind. Frankie didn’t say “There won’t be any Flood in Halo 4”, he said: “You won’t be fighting Flood in Halo 4.” In Halo 3, Master Chief went right into the heart of a Flood colony, majorly pissed off that Gravemind, but it never tried to fight him directly. You could be right, though. Just doesn’t make as much sense to me.
im still a little shakey on all of this most the info i get is from the halo encyclopedia since i dont have all the books but if the didact was incapable of irrational behavior wouldnt that mean he was some sort of ai in which he could have gone into rampancy?
Well, I’m not saying that he didn’t have his flaws (whatever they may be), but just think about it. Why would the Didact want to destroy the very species that his lover wanted to save, and sacrificed herself to do so? The way I see it, it would be an insult to her memory and the Didact is smart enough to realize this.
I still believe it’s the didact. According to this picture of the Halo 4 viral campaign (Look at the orange text in the middle):

Got it from this thread, the OP did it hiself:

It literally says d!D@ct, it correlates with that symbol at the end of the E3 trailer turning upside down. Franky also posted on NEOGAF: “time to rotate your avatar into its unbound state.”
Here is the original video:
Sorry, probably noob question. What is unbound?
