Backward Compatibility? [Now Available]

So much for the “summer celebration.” Disappointing.

> The Halo 3 playlist was always timed for the H3 anniversary timeframe. We are considering September within “Summer”

> We honestly had hoped the BC titles would be out already but it turned out that they needed further QA and polish so 343 and the back compat team are working through that now as quickly as possible (without sacrificing quality). @ske7ch343

They announced it a while ago:

> Like most of you we’re also filled with a mix of emotions at the upcoming 10th anniversary of Halo 3 – “Wow, it’s been ten years!? I feel old” and “Damn Halo 3 was awesome” being two common examples. You’ll have a few different ways you can celebrate this momentous milestone – in addition to the eventual release of Halo 3 back-compat on Xbox One, the team is also planning a special Halo 3 Anniversary Throwback playlist for Halo 5. This new matchmaking offering is being built from scratch on a selection of incredible community-made Halo 3 maps created with Forge in Halo 5 and will feature “classic” gameplay settings. We’re also cooking up a fun commemorative live stream that should offer good times and a hearty helping of giveaways. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the heads up. I’m am pumped to play some Halo 3 and Halo 4 (BTB only) when backwards compatibility is ready.

Hopefully it’s very soon.

(Shrug)
So it got pushed back. Its still coming. Not like I’m in a rush to to do much on 5 right now besides machinima.

So we don’t know how long it’ll be before the BC titles are released? Sounds like it could be sometime this month still.

They need to time it perfectly. Especially with destiny 2 and the new COD dropping.

Anything is possible. It sounds like they are being cautious.

> It’s a good call and a miss - I updated the update to acknowledge the BC titles are still in QA/polish. I hope we get an internal status update soon that provides a little better target ETA for release. (that said I don’t want to post a date and then have something blow up) Given the challenges Reach ran into when it first hit BC and how revered these titles are everyone wants to get this right the first try. @ske7ch343

I honestly never expected to see the games hit BC before September.

A Halo 3 themed playlist on Halo 5,

Yea I assumed it was gonna be in the last half of September anyways so this news isn’t that disappointing

Wow, I didn’t realize that. Looks like that it was delayed.

FYI:

> No Tinfoil Hats Required – Good news: back-compat is still a thing! The Xbox BC team is still churning away on getting the titles prepared for public consumption on Xbox One hardware (in fact, there’s been quite a bit of playtesting going on here at the studio as well the past few days). Still no further word on timing for availability, but consider this as us “still mentioning it.” Oh, and yes, we are still aware of some issues surrounding the Noble Map Pack still not being free; it’s being worked on with the appropriate Store folks.

Ah well. Here’s hoping for sudden availability within the next few days.

I’ve been waiting all summer for that, they may release them towards the end of August.

honestly im not expecting the games to hit xbox one until september, sucks that we have to wait that long, but it gives 343 something to hype around the Anniversary Celebrations for Halo 3.

A Halo 3 playlist with ‘‘classic settings’’…I personally wasn’t a big fan of the throwback they had for 15 years of Halo on Halo CE’s anniversary…Lets see what they do now.

Reporting there’s nothing new to report.

> Back-Compat – It’s still a thing! No new news to report from the Xbox BC team, but making sure everyone knows it’s still progressing.

Latest update. Sounds promising.

> I did hear that some great progress was made this week by the back compat team addressing feedback from recent playtests. Dare I say things are progressing nicely and -fingers crossed- release hopefully isn’t too much further out. @ske7ch343

Could a backward compatible title be released on a Saturday?

It’s a possibility but quite unlikely. I think all releases are done during the working week when most are in work and available for support
