Back in mah day

Okay, So I’m a 19 year old kid who’s been playing Halo since 4th grade. I remember Halo 1’s multiplayer. no real options, everyone looked cool reguardless, even if you were pink, the Mk 5 (in my opinion the best armor ever) looked good enough that nobody I knew really wanted any different armor. we drew it on our papers, we asted like we were Mk 5 Cyborgs as we called it at the time, then in 5th grade the Mk 6 wasn’t bad, not as cool as the Mk 5 for most of us, but it was still high tech battle armor.
In halo 1 there was no rank, you played for fun, nothing to beat but your friends, nothing to unlock, no armor to change or earn or buy, no preorder bonuses, nothing.

In hindsight, after spending a ton of money and begging for gifted 2XP tokens, I feel ashamed that I’m a rank 109. I miss the days when we had Oddball, assault, symmetrical maps, and the good old Mk 5 Mjolnir armor.

Halo has become Diseased, and I am sad. I’ll still play, because I love it. I’ll still play for fun, but I no longer care about my rank. Halo is supposed to be fun, not something to “Beat” or “Brag” about, Being a high rank doesn’t make you better. it makes you a loser. Being a High rank means nothing. Hell, if you ARE good, it’s just a game, get over yourself.

Back in the day, none of this mattered. I still play Halo Custom Edition with all of the laggy mexican people who play it, and it’s still fun.

I also regret that some of Halo’s best gametypes and armor no longer exist in halo 4, and that makes me quite Livid.

Indeed, I’m very disappointed in the direction this series is headed. Unfortunately, people like us are pushed aside and told to go away, and that we need to evolve and get over it. RIP Halo.

I’m more concerned with my Blops 2 rank. And even then, I just want my gold 870.

I barely want to do the specializations, especially since I’m not sure what any of them do or why I should care ATM.

Well said brotha (tekQ II)

Ah simpler times… Good times.

Ranks are nice, but in the end, a good game is all everyone wants (or should, anyway).

If people want a skill-rank system they can show off, they should just develop their own to calculate their and their friends’ rank. It’d honestly have much more meaning and worth if my friends and I could fine tune it so we aren’t just a “50”, we’re a “Sniper” or “Assassin” and the like.

I miss blood gulch

I approve this thread.

Finally someone who gets it.

I have never approved of a thread more in my life. And I am dead serious when I say that.

Edit:
Back in my day we formed clans and fought other clans. We searched for competitive matches, but we didn’t let losses or death streaks discourage us. Now it’s posted everywhere for everyone to see.

Stat tracking and experience is the day gaming died.

halo 2 zombies especially on foundation <3

I also don’t think the first couple posters got the point you were making

Don’t get me wrong, I love the “Perks” because they’re new and different, and the new Armor abilities are kinda cool (no A-lock (ultimate Bastardization of an aspect of the Mjolnir that should be unique to Mjolnir and was more of an annoying Fail safe than anything else)) and I approve of the ability to choose your load outs, but the Bolt shot and light rifle, hell any Forerunner weapon, should not be something you can spawn with.

To anyone who sees this, I look back upon this thread with a bit of disgust at myself. Halo isn’t dead, and halo 4 wasn’t as bad as we made it out to be.

Halo 5 will be a new era for halo. I can feel it.
