I am here to express specific feedback on the more recent sets of armor coatings.
Please stop coloring the under-suit in awkward ways. The newest shader in the store is a great example. A very cool shader that I will never use because you look like you dipped your arms in red paint. It looks weird.
An all white shader with an all white undersuit? Where is the definition and contrast? You’re a white blob.
Another cool shader has random yellow hands. WHY?
It just looks weird and offputting. Please stop. There are so few armor coatings as it is.

Yeah, I vastly prefer solid black undersuits in the majority of cases. I don’t use any shaders that change the undersuit to any color besides black/dark gray. You can tell that despite the backlash from H4/5 (where the undersuit was largely colored regardless of player color choice) there’s still someone(or people) at 343 who loves those colored undersuits lol.

THIS! Holy Smokes This! We don’t need a crap ton of coatings with different colours on one coating including the Undersuit, you don’t even look like a Spartan at this point

Yet another fantastic example of how stifling Coatings are to the freedom of customization. You’re forced to have the colors you’re given, and if you don’t like it? Tough, that’s all you’re getting.
The Coating system has been and always will be a massive step in the wrong direction for Halo and exists solely for the purposes of nickel and diming players.

It does sort of feel like they’re running out of really coherent and cool coatings. The new one in the 100cr bundle in the store is pretty goofy looking- It’s impossible to say that it won’t suit anyone’s tastes, but it’s a very peculiar look.
Coatings are restrictive primarily in that they present only one color configuration per coating. It feels like these more awkward coatings are aimed at people who, in older Halo games, liked to go for a zany Primary/Secondary contrast. Unfortunately, they kind of miss the point, because no coating is truly unique.
I don’t doubt that if Infinite provided in-depth color options that many players would come up with similarly wacky configurations to what we’ve been seeing in these recent coatings. But the reason that would be the case, IMO, is that players have always wanted to have unique colors on their armor based around their personal tastes. Having silly color coatings isn’t a suitable substitution to that for most players, because there isn’t anything spontaneous about purchasing and equipping a coating that was designed by a 343i employee with tools that are withheld from the end player, especially considering that said coating is available to literally every other player through the shop and cannot assure that your MP Spartan will have unique coloration.
A major overhaul for coatings should be a priority for 343. IMO, it’s entirely possible to maintain and even enhance the desirability of coatings as monetization elements while affording players a lot more granular control over their Spartans’ armor colors. Allowing players to create a “custom coating” slot that allows them to select every individual swatch from their available pool of 343i curated coatings would absolutely build a lot of value and demand around acquiring as many coatings as possible to enhance your overall range of options, and would provide players with the opportunity to create their most unique and colorful Spartans ever.
Nothing’s ever going to fix the fact that it’s gross that 343 decided to largely lock color customization behind a paywall, but at least they could and should make the best of it by giving players the highest possible number of ways to use the colors they pay for in coatings.

I feel like they’re trying to make them look asymmetrical, but they’re doing it in the worst way possible.
Scorpion Punch is one of if not the best way to accomplish an asymmetrical coating.
Foggy Rust and Alabaster Cognac, are the worst ways to accomplish an asymmetrical coating (Seriously Cognac looks nearly perfect yet it just has to have a single yellow shoulder, and Foggy Rust could do better with more color variation and being less of a mismatch of orange and blue).
Hell, I’d love to see them experiment with vertical asymmetry rather than horizontal. Could you imagine seeing a coating where the legs and waist are a different color (That isn’t an eye sore)?

Please just stop entertaining the coatings. Stop buying them and just use the stuff you can earn for 100% free (Im talking weekly reward or free battlepass) or the presets.
The more we buy coatings the more they will never give us the Halo option of choosing how we want to color our spartans by letting us select our own colors.

I believe not looking like a Spartan belongs to Halo 4 and 5 armor. Here you just look kinda goofy.
I mean my recent purchase wasn’t even with my own money-
Microsoft Rewards is a lovely program.

I feel that…I don’t know though…it still shows that people want to purchase these things.
It is for this reason I have not used my rewards on battle pass or any Halo store item
I will add I like a lot of them too…some are beautiful…

Foggy Rust just screams “Oops I dipped my arms in some orange paint.” Maybe a toddler was playing with the Spartan armor and crayon set.

I feel like whoever made the Foggy Rust coating was poking fun at a co-worker who loves cheezies just a little too much.
I dunno maybe the Spartan ran out of ammo and had to Rip n’ Tear some Lekgolo.
Double fist it.
Well there’s another item opportunity, under Armour colours
But seriously though, the whole point of the coating was supposed that they could make them quickly, but jeez Louise man, but some artistry into them not just random slaps of colour
Should really just be a toggle.
Apply coating to undersuit: Yes / No
No = Black
There are so many coatings I would love, but the coloured undersuit ruins them for me.

Don’t you know, according to market research, these coating combinations are more likely to be used by players! That’s why Coatings are good!
You will colour the armour the way they want you to.

I’m fairly confident we’ll never get customizable coatings, that’d just be too good to be true.
However, I think a decent alternative would be for 343 to design and create alternate color combinations for any coating they create in the future. Take Scorpion Punch for example, the all-black coating with the red arm. What if that coating were available in a bundle, alongside 2 variants of that coating with different colors. The color distribution and material details remain the same, but instead of black and red it could be brown and blue, or red and white.
I think it’s a decent way to add more value to coating bundles, and I also think we could really use the variety.
I personally wish there comes a point where they release large bundles of very simple, classic-style coatings for a reasonable price.

Honestly they should just sell blank coatings. Every idea I’ve found or other have found gets lost in the wind. Maybe the idea of selling blank coatings is enough for the greed.
