Avoiding Scalpers for Infinite Console Exclusive

Yes this assumes that there will in fact be a Console edition of Halo Infinite but it is a safe assumption since every previous FPS Halo title has launched with a console edition available. I just really dont want to see what we’ve been seeing with the new generation of consoles happen to our beloved franchise exclusive console as well. There has to be a way around these jerks (scalpers/bots/etc.)…

My idea(s):

  1. Only allow in-store pre-orders for the first couple weeks before allowing online pre-orders.
  2. Allow pre-orders via HaloWaypoint for the first couple weeks to ensure Active Halo community members can have a better chance at getting the console exclusive.
  3. Allow only 1 pre-order per person at a registered address. (im not sure how ‘bots’ work but im assuming you need to use a vaild address at some point in order to complete the purchase.) Also this allows for multiple people to get one at the same address.

I honestly prefer #2 over #'s 1 or 3.

What are your ideas regarding how Microsoft/343i can avoid losing these console editions to scalpers (granted I know there isn’t much thought into this from their side as long as the $ comes rolling in)? I just feel like something should be done especially how the official Xbox Twitter account always seems to be posting things that portray the company as ‘consumer friendly’…show me how consumer friendly you really are with your most loyal fans!

2 and 3 are your safest options imo. I’m hoping by Fall 2021 they should have a ton more series x/s consoles in stock and available to everyone so hopefully scalping won’t be another big thing

Me too…at least that was what their “hopes” were when it was said.

I’m definitely a fan of the second one (even though the green doesn’t match Chief’s green)! the first one is a little too similar to the H5 MC controller released.

Hopefully by the time they reveal a Series X/S limited edition console stores will be mostly back open so you can actually order one to pick up rather than having it solely online. AMD has said that chip shortages for consoles in general will probably continue until at least midway through 2021 so I imagine stock will be pretty hard to come by until at least July or August at the earliest. It might be difficult to get a new console or graphics card until at least Holiday season this year or early next year at this point.

I would shut down online orders alltogether until we figure out a way around them. For the time being, you’ll have to be physically be present at the store. And allow only 1 purchase per person. That’s my idea.

I think a combination of 2 and 3 sounds best. Although, I don’t have an understanding of distribution, so have no idea how easy or feasible this would be to pull off.

Gotta do something about damn scalpers though…

Neither do I…at the same time I’d imagine the shipping could be handled if the preorder was made early enough.

100% need to handle the scalpers before they even have a moment to strike.

Send a code out to a phone number to confirm a purchase to prevent consecutive buys and from sold outs.

That’s not a bad idea. I really hope the community can come up with something that 343i sees and pushes towards Microsoft with.

I do believe (COVID wise) online pre orders for special editions should just be cut out for the first couple weeks. In Ohio we have had stores open nearly the entire pandemic.
