Avengers Infinity War and Halo

If you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War you can stop reading here and come back when you have. if you have or don’t feel free to continue

After watching the movie two things came to mind. The Thanos vs Hulk fight should have been the John vs Locke fight and if i’m not being clear enough John should be Thanos. That would have been way more interesting, so 343i take note. Second, in campaign at least, Sprinting should be like Captain America or Black Panther running, it could never happen but that sense of speed in first person would be amazing, 2 seconds before you ran into a wall
what do you guys think?

I just saw it!!!

I kind of agree with your first point. I think that would have been pretty neat. Probably not as one sided as it was in the movie, but yeah,I feel like Locke should have struggled a little bit more than he did.

I have no idea what you’re talking about with your second point though. Run into a wall? huh?

I actually found myself thinking about connections as well, but not the same ones. Infinity War was this heavy, serious, and somber plotline. BUT it still managed to funny at times and make you smile, and I feel like 4/Guardians has been severely lacking in those moments compared to 1-3. That’s not to say they’re completely gone, there’s a couple. But the “f— yeah!” Moments and the ones that make you burst out laughing aren’t nearly as prevalent. And I don’t think you have to sacrifice those things to have a serious story.

Well, I’m sure certain members of 343 were intent on imitating Marvel already.

Heck, Locke is even portrayed by Mike ‘Luke Cage’ Colter.
> Then again, when you consider who made up the writing staff for these titles, the connections shouldn’t surprise you.

Or the designers are as dumb as a plank and decided to plagiarise Marvel and ruin the Halo universe for the sake of monetary gain by appealing to a mainstream audience

That moment when you realize Halo 5: Guardians came out before Captain America: Civil War…

Haha I knew someone was going to bring this up…
True, Civil War released a good 6 months after Halo 5, and the marketing campaign didn’t begin till July, a full month after the E3 where Halo 5 was fully showcased for the first time. In hindsight, I should’ve put that under a different section like ‘weird coincidences’ or something.
Perhaps the box art was based on this; it’d put it on the same level of disappointment at least.

Its not much of a weird coincidence really as batman V Superman has the same cover design, with two faces looking at each other (as well as being the most boring as the Civil war one has the shield over it and H5 has the teams in the bodies of Chief and Locke.) the whole two people facing each other is really just a generic design.

Most works are derivative of past ones. If you attempted too you could easily find forebears and influences for everything including the transformer poster you linked. Where would Halo be without Aliens which in turn owes a lot to the books of Robert Heinlein? Where would it be without Doom which in turn owes a lot to the old first person maze style games?

I didn’t find the Thanos v Hulk fight all that exciting, especially as Thanos easily handled him. He was beaten so badly the Hulk refused to appear for the rest of the movie lol! It’s exactly how the John v Locke fight turned out whomp whomp whomp You can also make comparisons how Cortana and Thanos are trying to bring peace and order to the galaxy through force. As well as how it’s looked upon negatively by others. Plus they both possess tools capable of destroying all life.

To be honest, I only see 1 example that really works.

  • The Infinity armor bay is very reminiscent of Tony’s gantry. The emphasis on stepping into the boots and then suiting up is similar. I’ll give ya that. - The Halo 4 Pelican’s cockpit design (D79 variant) is very similar to the Russian Mi-24D Hind helicopter. If anything, both the Quinjet and Pelican cockpit designs are from that rather than each other. - Episode 2 of the The Sprint nullifies the imitating Marvel in the fact that the Osiris opening cutscene was shot in January of 2015, a solid 4 months before AoU even released in theaters. - Warden Eternal’s appearance would not have been based upon Ultron’s considering that we see Wardens final look by E3 2015, a mere 1 and a half months after AoU released. - As the above poster already pointed out, aside from the release dates; two characters facing each other really isn’t anything noteworthy. It’s quite standard when showing opposing sides.

Well color me corrected. I haven’t watched ‘the Sprint’ so I wasn’t aware of that. I pinned the similarities on the the staff’s prior work and took that as enough evidence when I should’ve looked into it further if I was going to make a point. I’ll admit the problem isn’t exclusive to 343, moreso with modern pop-culture in general, frustrating as that may be.

Locke slapped John so hard we only caught glimpses of John for the rest of the game
