Autosentry...

Is quite possibly the worst thought up AA in Halo history. It’s so useless in so many aspects it’s absurd…

  1. You have to use AA Efficiency for it to be “decent”, because it’s cooldown is insane…

  2. It does almost NO real damage to players. It’s more of a shield poker and nuisance. Rather then a defense tool.

  3. It’s so stupidly easy to destroy, kinda pointless to even use it in the 1st place. Back to the cooldown again…

My point is, even the more lesser used AA’s have more functionability with the player then Autosentry. Such as Hologram and Thruster Pack.

IDK if it’s just the Weapon(s) im using with it? But this AA never, ever comes in handy. Even in Objective. Lest we all forget we can’t do AA’s in a Hill! So that takes Autosentry’s usefulness and throws it out the window…

My loadout is as follows:

P: DMR
S: Plasma Pistol
G: Frag
AA: Autosentry
TP: AA Efficiency
SU: Sensor

I’ve had the Autosentry kill people, it is useful in Objective games.

I used to use it. It’s not useless IMO. It’s best used in regicide when you’re the king. You’d be surprised how useful it can be then.

I sometimes use it in Regicide. I get to a good defensible position, deploy the auto sentry, and let them come at me. I usually come out on top of most fights because the sentry’s extra shots (the little damage that they do) helped me take out their shields faster so I get the headshot faster

Being able to spawn with a low cooldown, medium damage sentry that does the work for you would be overpowered. If everyone uses it, it becomes unstoppable.

Being able to spawn with a high cooldown, low damage sentry is underpowered. Unless everyone on your team uses it, in which case it becomes overpowered.

I sincerely believe it will never be balanced in loadouts. The best option is to buff it and put it on the map as equipment.

In Slayer, I find it to be quite useless, but in objective gametypes its’ been quite handy. Not my preference, though.

In Campaign and Spartan Ops? Well, that thing absolutely tears through Elites and Knights. I relied on it for much of legendary.

It is not useless in my experience.

It provides assistance in taking down the enemy shields.

If anything it provides an obstacle… If I want to go through a sentry I need to stop and take it out while worrying about where the “owner” of the sentry is, and if he’s going to ambush me.

As for KOTH games, it is true it doesn’t work while you’re in the hill. But you only need one person in the hill at a time. I lay it down while covering for the dude in the hill… it is helpful for delaying the incoming enemy and even funneling them into choke points.

Autosentry would be a great addition to this game if it were single-use, deployable equipment that players could pick up from the map. If they used it that way, it could actually be worth something and effective. But since they’re basically customizable special powers, many of them have to be nerfed to the point of silliness because their concepts just don’t fit with their uses.

A lot of the armor abilities fall into this, though.

As it is, the autosentry really is just a distraction. There isn’t a whole lot of fun to placing it because, when you do, you know it’s not really going to do anything. And there’s a HUGE risk to placing it as you’re exposed and paralyzed for a really ong time. There also isn’t much fun to fighting against it because it’s like facing a fly buzzing around your head.

I really hope they consider designing multiplayer armor abilities to be more complementary to Halo’s gameplay. These armor abilities are much less intrusive than they were in Reach, but that doesn’t mean their fun or interesting.
