Auto weapons in the beta were perfect

Everyone is complaing about AR’s and other automatic weapons being to powerful… I mean dear lord what do you want them to shoot out peas or paintballs than you will be happy.

Dont get me wrong I love BR’s as I’m a competitive player but for the first time in halo 5 I felt like I could be competitive and not have to use the BR I could catch people of guard with an auto weapon than pick up a br and finish the ranged fights.

halo has always had a super balanced game, adding in the fact that you can actually use auto weapons make it just all the more balanced.

I have nothing against autos either

Though them getting additional accuracy when smart scoped is trifling to me, I think they could just use a small accuracy boost overall.

DIdn’t anyone read the POST BETA changes? I think they mentioned how the Automatics weren’t supposed to gain Bonuses from Headshots and smart scope!

The AR could get a little range reduction, but it is actually a viable weapon now. I like it!

Reduce bonuses for automatic weapons in Smart-Link & w/ headshots

I don’t see the word removed, do you?

smg was definitely too powerful in breakout

Everything is powerful in Breakout though I thought lol

Yeah smg was finally good to use though, heck in two and three you would be touching someone with the barrel and still couldn’t kill them with a full clip it seems.

and does anyone know what the point is of using a smart scope with assault rifles mean now, cause I read that they were taking away bonus from the beta which confuses me? Cause I liked aiming in it gave you more accuracy and the fact that you got descoped by being shot made it perfect, half the time you weren’t even aimed in. But what, so now there is no reason to aim in and shooting someone in the face doesn’t do more damage??

people complain to much and ruin things sometimes.lol

I also really liked the balance in the beta. I hope they don’t nerf them too hard…

yeah, i believe this is because there are no shields in the gamemode

I liked the way that I had a fighting chance off the spawn without a BR. Made it feel like more of a fight and less of a search for a weapon I could actually fight with.

The headshot multipliers shouldn’t have been a thing. But they’re being taken out/toned down, so I’m fine.

The reason I didn’t like the power of the autos from the beta, who knows what tweaks they actually made since then, was because it reduces the skill gap in Halo a lot. Halo has always been about precision weapons and with the autos being so easy to get kills it shrinks that skill gap a lot. I think they would be ok if the range actually gets reduced, there is no reason an auto at mid range should win against a br or dmr, close range yes though. I got a lot of kills even past mid range with the autos during the beta.

The AR’s power was just right, but not the range. An automatic weapon should never be able to compete against a semi-auto weapon at mid-range so easily.

dont the autos having more power make it even a bigger skill gap for players? Makes the people that are really good with the br stand out even more. In the beta I barely got killed with an AR, and assault rifles in real life have great range you guys are wanting them to have like a shot gun range there should be a gun that can contest a br at mid range and to my experience if you hit all four shots you will still win (in the beta)

the shields were reduced in breakout.

I like that 343 made the AR useful in MP

No it means that players who can’t aim with precision weapons are now able to get kills easier than ever before and this isn’t real life, this is a video game. It’s no secret that 343 wants new players to be able to have some success instead of getting rolled to the point of never playing again and that is good and bad. Good if it brings up the population and bad if the population isn’t dramatically increased because it could drive the old population away like in Halo 4. I had fun in the beta but all my friends that have been playing halo since CE didn’t like it because of all the new player friendly features in H5 especially the autos being almost to the point of being more useful over all than the precision weapons.

Everything in the beta worked fine for me, I like having a useful AR for close range, I often ran around with a BR and an AR so that I was always prepared

Skill Gap

  1. Difference in effectiveness between a skilled and unskilled player.
  2. Related to #1, a measure of how much a game rewards superior skill.
  3. Difference in skill between two players (not used in this context).

Take Team Rockets. The Rockets have a large splash radius, and don’t require precise aim. The weapon’s effectiveness doesn’t scale much with user skill, the Pro might hit direct hits while the noob barely touches them with the splash, but both get the same exact reward of a one shot kill. Thus the skill gap is low.

Compare this to Team Snipers. The pro will be landing headshots left and right, while the noob will struggle to even hit the body. The pro will be rewarded a lot more for having superior skill. Thus the skill gap is very high.

Making automatics stronger doesn’t make players good with the BR stand out more, it does the exact opposite. It makes the BR less effective, thus rewarding good players less.

Though it is important for people to keep in mind that having the skillgap be as high as possible isn’t inherently a good thing. You want to find the right balance between keeping a game challenging and thus engaging, but not so challenging that it becomes practically unplayable for everyone. Halo is nowhere near that point though.

> assault rifles in real life have great range

Okay, and? This is a game, where you want to challenge the player, ensure balance, and promote weapon diversity. That might mean doing things that defy ‘realism’.

> there should be a gun that can contest a br at mid range

Why not the Pistol? Or any of the other precision weapons that we have way too many of.

Actually define “contest”. The Battle Rifle can contest the Sniper at long range, but that doesn’t mean it’s likely to win.
