There should be an auto-kick system for people who drive backwards to cause blockades in race, similar to the way that team-killers can be booted in normal matchmaking.
While this sounds nice in theory, how would it work in practice? It may be difficult to detect which direction you’re moving in relative to an arbitrarily moving point on a custom map.

Is there something I’m missing here?
In Race, there is much more than just “Get to the Checkpoint”
Also in your title “Driving Backwards” also includes tricks, accidentally going backwards, challenges to do so, and what is wrong about doing so?
A Race is where the first person to do a lap or so wins, besides this is HALO, not Forza or something. In Halo, the main cause is to kill somebody, so you shouldn’t expect anyone to be mild. Not to mention that it is a legit strat.
I really think that this wasn’t all too thought out…
Anyhow IMO it should not happen, but it may need more work to convince me…besides this happens to me all the fricken time in Racing games.
There’s no way to monitor it. Not that I know of.
I’d think that a system that auto-kicks people who drive backwards would be very inconsistent and problematic. How would the system know if you’re driving backwards on purpose or just by accident? How would this system effectively detect backwards movement on a map that lacks forward linearity?
Let trolls be trolls, trying to stop them would cause more issues than solutions.

Easy, auto-kick anyone who takes over 20 seconds to reach the next checkpoint.
> Easy, auto-kick anyone who takes over 20 seconds to reach the next checkpoint.
I think you underestimate how unskilled some players are. I think 60 seconds would be more appropriate.
Seriously? You’re complaining about the freaking Race feature in Halo 4? Gosh. It’s not meant to be competetive, it’s just a stupid gametype.

I don’t think players should be kicked out of Race. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people can’t make it to the next checkpoint in sixty seconds.
You guys are taking this a bit too seriously, Race is just meant to be a fun little gametype. Besides, the playlist is going to be removed very soon.

Not gonna happen and/or work like you want it to. What about people who are bad at driving? What about kids playing?
That sound like a terrible idea.
What if I am driving backwards but, in the right direction?
1.) have you even played race? No checkpoint is more than 2 seconds away from the previous one. Anyone who takes 20 seconds to hit another checkpoint is obviously idle or trolling other racers
2.) M rated game
“Oops, I ran into a rock…Let me just reverse and-”
Not to mention, how does someone driving screw you over? It’s not like they’re team killing, it’s like they’re committing suicide. Isn’t it good for you?
Derp.
> You guys are taking this a bit too seriously, Race is just meant to be a fun little gametype.
No. Wanting to enjoy a game free from molestation is not taking it “too seriously.”
Play with a full lobby of like-minded people or do customs if you want to goof around or be a jerk. When we enter matchmaking with strangers, we should, and in fact agree to, play the game according to its rules and with good sportsmanship.
Griefing is Griefing, whether it’s in Throwdown, BTB, Action Sack or Race.
> Besides, the playlist is going to be removed very soon.
With the hope that an improved version will return (sometime) in the future.

Remember to leave your observations and thoughts in the Race Feedback thread.
I made a thread like this in matchmaking forums i think this might be a better idea you start with one life if you don’t go the right way for like 5 sec it blows up ? is this posssible ? i encountered players who just stand still so the moongose flips over.
Stop giving him such a hard time. He just wants a solution. I thought in race if you go off course or if you are out of your mongoose you will be reset automatically?
But I like driving backwards.
I personally think it’s part of race in Halo. Since Halo 3 friends have always done this even in customs with friends only. To me it’s just part of the Halo race gametype, it feels more sandboxy to me (yes I made that word up).
Halo is a sandbox shooter.
And sometimes the shovels and buckets smack you in the face and sand gets in your pants and shoes.
Just because it’s a sandbox dosen’t mean you can ruin it for everyone else i get what you guys say but i find it rather annoying than fun.
