Hi, although I understand there is never going to be changes, (having databases closer to Australia), i’m wondering what actually is the closest server to Australia? Recently, when I have been playing it has been absolutely impossible to enjoy the game. I am constantly teleporting, getting worse hit registration, and getting 8 shot perfections (with a magnum) which I did not even know was possible, until 3 months ago. When I ping my connection to a server, I’m on around 400-500 ping which makes sense why it’s so hard to play even when vsing noobs, (I’m a champ-Onyx based player as well). If anyone knows the server closest to Australia I’m interested to know. I’m on my last straw for this game which is extremly sad because I know a-lot of Aussies and NZ that have quit due to unfair matchmaking from all these connection issues. I understand Australia is not the largest halo country but we should still have a right to have equal chance in winning gunfights not this 9-8 shot perfection BS. Sorry about the rant, thanks for your time
Servers have been terrible lately. But look at Mint Blitz on youtube. He’s an Aussie pro streamer and he captures the wonkiest, most hilarious shot registration glitches/freezes/teleports. It’s just what you have to live with I suppose. At least you’re not alone. He is also Champ-Onyx.
Interesting. If your lag on a regular basis is similar to the lag the rest of us have been experiencing lately, I simply would not play the game (remember Halo 4?? ugh…).
Is this the same for all on-line games games for folks in Aus and NZ or only Halo? I have no idea what the infrastructure costs are in setting up a server but one would think it would be a great marketing tool to encourage folks to get on-line as surely you are not the only gamer in Aus and NZ that probably cant be bothered in playing on-line games anymore due to lag…

In theory it evidently is not worth the cost because they otherwise would have done this.

I Have the same problem from Italy!
I’ve moved to the UK for 12 months but have played Halo out of Aus for 10 years. The lag you speak of is nothing new - H3, HR, H4, H5 - it has been the one true constant in online MP. I play on Expanded Search and the UK has an advantage of being closer to the US but sometimes the lag is unplayable.
Low player count means that there will not be enough persons in Asia Pacific to play against - you will encounter lag for a lot of your games. Halo Infinite will help your cause.
gotta be the west coast of the usa id say and yep as a fellow Aussie I feel the pain once you get near your skill ceiling you literally cannot compete on average im between 2-3 shots behind in every gunfight and as soon as you play against anyone with any skill you just can’t go head to head it makes the experience less than fun, not being able to dodge rockets or spartan charges no matter what you do getting splattered at every turn even though you have jumped and thrusted away they still hit you yet when you hit someone full speed and boosting they take no damage and just hijack you !
I really hope this changes for infinite we would just like a fair go !!!

I’m sure he’s got alot of hard drive and stuff to back him up as well. But your still right.
All of you need to start advocating for dedicated Australian Servers for Infinite.
Same for all of you Euro folk.
We have servers, just no population.
In the early H5 days I matched Aussies in Aussie servers… That will happen again when Infinite is released.
I feel that it’s generally the same case for everyone is Australia & New Zealand; and apparently Italy
It can be a real pain when your shots don’t connect & you know that you got the kill, especially in a competitive game
As phannybaws said, back in the day it wasn’t so bad, but due to a lower population there isn’t as much support for Australian connection; once Halo Infinite releases, it won’t be as big of an issue as they’ll be plenty more Aussies to support the connection
Halo MCC has Australian servers, and I still tend to connect to those quite a bit; all depends on what time you play!
In the older Halo games it used to be much worse, but it is great that it is so much better than it once was (not currently on Halo 5)
As an optimistic way to look at it, I look at it as a crutch to help improve my gameplay. It encourages me to be quicker with my response and aim, to be faster than the opponent. Then when it comes to a better connection game, you will inherently become more faster and responsive
eromancy you are definitely not alone & it’s great that you reached out, if you’re looking for more Aussies to play with feel free to shoot me a message or add me on XBL: GG Panda GG
