August Update Feedback

So, I noticed all of the negativity surrounding the new update regarding the exchange, menu etc and I wanted to throw my two cents in. Yes, the exchange is in need of major rework, and to be honest it has for a while. The content that is in the rotation is still stuck on the 20 years anniversary items and was on that for a while. While it is frustrating that ALL of the new items are locked behind this feature is a bad move for a redundant feature.

I would personally have rather seen a new season/ series (whatever we are calling them these days) the renaming of this and the seasonal points was unnecessary in my opinion. Now what this update did in terms of bugs and adding content to a 8-YEAR-OLD game is fantastic. I’ve been one of the players that have been playing since day one and I’m pleased that this game is still supported - even by a skeleton crew!

What I think is getting lost on this forum with all the hate and frustration is the other things this update did, so I’m going to list them below

  • Bug fixes - lots of them. Not all of the bug fixes were listed in the patch notes - look at the reach lighting bloom fix. One particular bug that I really appreciate made it into the update was the fix for the halo rings on the mission ā€œThe Covenantā€. In this mission, the rings sometimes didn’t load and were missing.

  • Subtitles for the hearing impaired - No idea how they managed to pull this off, the customization for this feature is insane. seriously, check out how you can now customize the subtitle’s size, colour, background etc it’s impressive

  • Poses - I’m aware this is a hit-and-miss feature for everyone, but it’s still interesting that they are trying to improve/ modernise the multiplayer experience across all of the games

  • Background changing - Finally, we can now have the newer version of the halo main menu back with the ring! or change it to your own background. This has been a long-time requested feature It works fine on the Xbox but I’ve seen some PC users are having problems.

  • New armours and weapon skins - Despite all of the hate, the new armour and weapon skins are made from scratch and there are actually more armour pieces that look better than I thought from the reveal trailer - I know it’s all locked away but I appreciate the effort gone to make this stuff!

and there are many more that I have yet to explore.

Now, what would I change/ do for the next update?

First off, there is enough cut content from the previous seasons of the MCC to make a whole new season/ series. From Reach armour, H3/ Online armour (that never made the cut) to nameplates. All of this stuff is just sitting in the files. This is before we start exploring the other games such as Halo 4’s missing and cut weapon skins. Let us use it in the next update, call it the ā€œdigsiteā€ season/ series. See link - https://www.halopedia.org/Cut_Halo:_The_Master_Chief_Collection_customization

Next, I would change the exchange to a catalogue system rather than a rotational drip feed machine. Yes, I know that the drip feed is probably to keep us going to the next update, but I don’t feel it works by itself anymore. If there was another season to co-exist with the exchange (like it used to) then I feel people wouldn’t be so upset.

Addtional features/ content -

The remaining halo online maps into the MCC. The reactor, Diamondback and Skybridge… are present in the MCC files already, don’t leave half a job done. More weapon skins for the games would be nice as well as vehicle skins. I would also like to see the missing achievements from Halo CE:A, Halo 2 Vista, Halo 3, Halo 4 and Halo: Reach make it into the game, as all of the original achievements were not imported over to the MCC

This update is honestly not a bad update, just the whole situation with the exchange needs thinking about to be honest. I hope people realise this before typing in rage on this forum. 343i had dropped the ball on Infinite, but this is far from it in this update

I’m on console (Series X) and my choices reset to default every time I close the MCC. It’s a great addition, I just wish it’d work properly.

They ruined Halo reaches visuals, too much bloom and smear.

If they want to appeal to the 360 era of bloom nostalgia they should make it a toggle.

Did they remove legacy stats from waypoint profiles?
Or is this just ā€˜work in progress’ bs?

Even in the beyond hypothetical scenario where they may reverse the decision to force microtransactions in MCC, they’ve developed a track record of not knowing how to implement features without explicit instruction. So, I’m going to create a numbered list of actions that they can take to make the challenge system and the overall process of earning points easier and player friendly. I encourage anyone and everyone to make numbered lists because that will be the easiest thing that they can process.

  1. Move all Exchange Content from the Exchange into a 9th Series following Series 8: Mythic. There’s enough content within previous exchange stores plus items from the August update to fill at least 50 tiers if not 100.
(On this note I think someone counted the items and there were around 94 new customization items, so easily enough for 100 tiers if stretched just a tiny bit)

  2. Make everything cost 1 season point. 1 season point. That is how much most series items cost with a few exceptions, but that should be the normal price for all items.

  3. Increase the durations of the tactical exercises. Make them last for two months instead of one month. And make them earn 5 season points each, rather than 2.

  4. Double the amount of experience points earned in all weekly PvE and PvP challenges. Make all gold challenges earn 2 points, and all normal challenges earn 1 point.

  5. Reimplement campaign experience. Since we can now earn spartan points by leveling up, there should be more ways to earn experience points in PvE outside of challenges and firefight.

If 343 does not do either some or all of these steps, I can only conclude that 343 is intentionally making earning spartan points more difficult. And on top of that, making each point less valuable by making everything more expensive. What conclusion can one come to other than that this is a strategy for 343 to force people who play MCC into microtransactions of any kind?

To me, its a miss if only due to the poses that aren’t there.

  • Where is the Alert Carry pose from Halo 2 and Halo 3’s original customization screens, something originally used for both Elites and Spartans?
  • Where is the the Halo 4 Stances that until now couldn’t be added to MCC?
