Some good steps here. Hopefully they can keep taking steps with each monthly drop pod from here on.
I was only expecting visors to be cross core with this pod. So seeing some work on helmet attachments is fantastic. Definitely going to have a little play around this afternoon.
The addition of doubles is huge. The addition of Ranked doubles is amazing. Not that I particularly play doubles - but having a second ranked playlist will hopefully put an end to all this “one global MMR” stuff.
The challenges on the pause screen is welcome. A bit disappointing we can’t get real time updates - but as they said, they are working on it.
Well… Little bit of a rant here and I’m going to be brutally honest.
I am glad that they are working on FINALLY being able to select your region. Hopefully This gives people a better connection. It’s nice to see that they’re going to put in ranked doubles as well. I’m assuming this will use existing maps Maybe some new forge ones? but I don’t know… I guess it’s cool that they’re putting in social doubles but I don’t really see the point… But I am BEYOND PERPLEXED as to why they still do not have or not putting in a ranked team Slayer playlist. Like what the heck people!!! I’ve said it a thousand times, Ranked Team Slayer has been one of (top 3) if not the MOST popular playlist and every single Halo game that it has existed!!! It doesn’t matter if you hate ranked team Slayer or not that isn’t the point. Sometimes I think 343 want people to leave their game because not having ranked team Slayer is a really good way to do that.
… And I’m sorry but this focus on the cross core cosmetic crap aka using visors and helmet attachments on different ones is absolutely ridiculous. The IDEA is not ridiculous! And I’m glad they’re doing it BUT the fact that you’re working on that over so many other bigger issues that is plaguing this game, is a joke!!!
I can honestly say that I highly doubt I will be playing this game much at all anymore, and the majority of my friends are the same. And this is coming from a halo player since the first month that Halo CE was out. If they ever get a ranked team Slayer, a firefight type mode and/or the campaign is actually done and has things in it like the biodomes aka the weather effects and whatnot, Remember when they said they would get those in. What’s the bets right now for when they get in?? I’m guessing another year or two… Just a bloody joke…but yeah, If they get those in then I’ll definitely check them out and be back.
I feel so bad and embarrassed for the halo franchise and what it has become. 343I I’m sorry, and I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but you people should honestly feel bloody ashamed of this latest Halo product that is probably going to take another 5 years or more for it to be “complete” it’s all just so… Unfrigginbelievable.
Personally I’m glad 343 is putting in the work for a server selection system. If it works it should make the game actually playable to us people who don’t live in the US.
I fear it may be a bit too little too late and the communities in these regions might be too small at this point, though.
nothing on watchdog, could care less about the other armors Open up cross core already
Still waiting on the “alternate” xp system or progression without just challenges
They have tweaked some armour and helmets and this is meant to think 343 are sorting out all major issues lol.
Don’t hold your breath about region selection, that was just a proverbial bone.
We’re still waiting for forge, co-op play and custom browser to give region selection a timeline context.
So another minor update. Shame to still see no sign of majority of content being earnable in-game by simply just playing the game. 8+ months and sadly situation is not any better.
I feel like I need to reiterate this just so that it’s explicitly clear. I do not think this is enough, far from it. When viewed in isolation, this drop pod update is a step in the right direction.
But I get that 343 has so much more to do before Infinite can be a truly enjoyable game. A progression system (maybe like what MCC has but less grindy), more unlockable content just by playing the game, more game modes in both ranked and social playlists, custom games browser, server region selection, etc.
But reiterating complaints about the slow speed of updates and about it being too late isn’t going to make things better on a systemic level. I think everyone knows that 343 F’d up in almost every way imaginable. At this point, it’s pretty much like beating a dead horse.
I can’t stop people from complaining and whatnot (and really I wouldn’t want to), but I think it would help if we just focused on things that 343 needs to add, changes, features, etc. in short summary. I think 343 really needs explicit instruction on how to make a good Halo game. So, as a suggestions, maybe we could keep our feedback into short and simple steps and directions that 343 needs to take in order to cleanup their mess.
I suspect that 343 is aware that they need to add features that currently exist in MCC into Infinite. So, let’s use that as a kind of base platform and see where that gets us.
It is a step in the right direction and I get this will be a veerrrrrry slow process. I get that they’re starting with the easier things like helmets and attachments for them, but why wasn’t armor colors with this too? This drip feed of updates and contents is not going to keep us around. Eventually, we’re all just gonna dip out and wait 5+ years till the game is actually where it needs to be.
If they are adding a ranked playlist, why the hell isn’t it RANKED SLAYER! This should be priority. Ranked doubles is fine, but Ranked Slayer should have been a staple playlist from the beginning.
This is garbage. As a post above stated, there are more pressing issues they should be working on, to actually make the game play better. This cosmetic crap can wait. They’re only fixing where money can be spent.
Sorry, we shouldn’t be giving them a pass on this, because the stuff that really matters will keep getting delayed.
Unfortunately it seems likely that we’ll have a repeat of MCC in Infinite. I’m sure you remember that in the first couple years of its release that MCC was in a horrible state. It was only post 2019 where it really started to be the collection it was supposed to be or more.
I know, it’s frustrating that a game developer can’t release a complete and functioning product on launch. It’s hard to say whether that’s something specific to 343 and Halo Infinite, or if it’s an offshoot or symptom of a larger system crisis in “Modern Gaming.”
Copied this lines from the official “August Drop Pod Preview” on Halowaypoint: "While there is no player-facing change here just yet, this Drop Pod does contain a lot of the groundwork required to turn Region Select on in the future. "
So far i understand:
Region select will not be available with the August Drop Pod. The august drop pod just contains changes that will it make possible in the future.
I have mixed feelings in that regard. On the one hand, it makes sense. Spartans would be able to use whatever they want, and the UNSC would try to adapt to it. On the other though, some helmets (or other gear) may not belong on a certain core due to its design. For example, the default Rakshasa helmet has a much different design language than the Mark VII helmet. Mark VII may look fine on Rakshasa, but would the Rakshasa helmet look fine on Mark VII?
And I also like that cores encourage me to make something different. Otherwise all my cores would use a variation of ODST. But with core restrictions, I will use something else.
