Hi everyone. I’d like to make a simple suggestion for the multiplayer aspect of Halo 4.
I’ve been playing CE on my PC since 2005. I won’t go into much detail about my experiences there, but I do want to bring up something that seems to have escaped the minds of Halo players. Hitmarkers.
Now I’m not talking about a COD style, on-your-crosshair type. I’m talking about an audible, subtle “ding” -Exactly like the one in CE.
It was removed in every Halo after CE, and I think that is unfortunate. I always thought it was a good idea. I liked being able to know whether I hit my mark or not and not being distracted by something popping up on my screen.
It is very useful in cases of lag because even when you think you might have missed a shot, if you hear that “ding” you know you’ve done some damage, and you can adjust your aim according to the lag. Currently, if there is lag you are forced to guess about the enemy player’s position and forced to fire wildly. With a hitmarker, you can make a much more accurate judge about your enemy’s true position.
It is also useful for times when you can’t see your enemy.
Say you shoot a rocket or wraith mortar, or throw a grenade over a rock or around a corner. If you hear a “Ding”, you know you’ve damaged an enemy and can switch to a more precise weapon, or change positions. If you don’t hear it, you know you probably ought to stick with the big guns.
This is something I would love to see implemented in Halo 4, and 5 and 6.
A “ding”? I’m not sure I remember that. Do you mean a ding as in the sound of a bullet hitting something or the sound of shields popping or anything that seemed as though coming from within the game world or was it like a system sound (i.e. windows error sounds, xbox shut down sounds) that wouldn’t vary based on location in relation to target (sounds different from different directions and angles) as in the sounds of shields popping?
I love that little “Ding”, TF2 also has a audible hit marker, something about those sounds I just love it so much. So yes I would love for them to come back.

It is a quiet “ding” or “ping” directly related to the damage you inflict on an enemy player. I’ve determined that the tone played is a A (for those of you who know music)
It was only on the PC version of the game. And it was annoying, not gonna lie about that.
To be honest, if you can’t SEE that you hit a player by the Shields, or the Blood, it’s pretty obvious you DIDN’T hit them. Because they would have to be off your screen.
I guess it’s not so bad so long as I can turn it off in the options menu.
I seem to remember a sound, but it wasn’t a ding, at least to me.
Anyway, a sound indicating a hit would be a nice touch, but personally, I’d keep it somewhat grounded. Rather than a random sound, I’d have the sound of the round ricocheting, similar to the noise when a projectile weapon is fired at an Elite in Anniversary. Obviously, range would come into play; you wouldn’t hear the sound if you were cross mapping someone.
I wouldn’t add the noise to heavy weapons, given how powerful they are.
Just watched a video of CE Multiplayer and yes it was there but as someone previously said this means their off screen and in the video I watched it was so quiet that I couldn’t hear it when with a sniper or needler, and the only time there will be an “out of sight kill” would be with a rocket launcher or grenade, which I assume would be way too loud. This also may be considered unfair by MLG and I feel as though it might kind of take away from the feeling of immersion.

I’d rather not have an audible hit marker, I know over time it would annoy me. But options are optional, if you want it and its OPTIONAL ONLY, then I don’t see why not.
I’ve never found it necessary to have hit markers in Halo. Shields flare up quite brightly upon taking damage. The ding in TF2 also tends to drive me completely insane. If it were added, I’d want it to be subtle, but I doubt something like this will be implemented.
