attrition would be more fun if it were just a 1 life mode and the circle started closing immediately at the start of the match or when the first person dies. The revive and circle mechanics is the most interesting parts and a one life mode would let players experience these more. Otherwise, I’d rather just be playing the actual slayer mode

So breakout with revives? I wish every player had 3 individual lives instead of a life pool that bad players can squander.

i think breakout failed because it was missing something interesting. such as revives and a closing circle. something that cant be achieved effectively in respawn modes but works better in a 1 life mode. A reason to choose one mode over another.

other games have buy systems that specifically work for round based modes so that gameplay changes in each round to keep things interesting. Im not saying halo should add a buy system to a round based mode but should think about how to make each round unique while keeping balance in check. maybe in the future when everyone has fast computers, it could be a new map every round which would not be achievable in a respawn mode without messing up balance. (would also work in round based respawn modes so not really a unique feature)

Respawn modes and one life modes have their own unique querks that only work for them. One is not better than the other imo. Halo is an interesting (trying to be) respawn shooter. thats why breakout without its own interesting unique ideas couldn’t compete with the respawn modes halo 5 was offering.

Breakout was also a neutral flag mode, so a closing circle wouldn’t have worked.

I kinda’ miss Breakout, haha.

I cant really remember breakout that well but did people actually capture the flag or just kill each other? I dont think it changed the gameplay that much. probably made the gameplay extra stale as people just look at the same spot afraid to move.

Also it sounds like if you go a man down then youre forced to go to the flag to stop the full strength team capturing it which then just leads to your easy death. Doesn’t sound like a very well thought out mode.

This threadade me nostalgic fpr break out.
I wish i played it more back in the day but i was solo queueing so it wasnt the best experience.

With the Forge Beta coming next month I hope to see talented people make Breakout maps, I really enjoyed Breakout (Minus Breakout 2.0)

Honestly, it felt 50/50. Grabbing the flag was an easy way to get killed since the other team knew where you would be going.

Problem is, we have no weapon like the SMG to do breakout with. The AR gets headshot bonuses.

I’d love to see a smg return, along with breakout. I wonder how much we can edit weapon properties in forge…
