Attrition: What the Heck is this

I don’t mind the speed as much as I mind not being able to move and fight back while I’m reviving. Other than that it is a good game mode, I hope it becomes a perma playlist or gets added to quickplay.

Oh yeah that too, I didn’t even think about that. I can’t strafe bullets while reviving, like Destiny, I’m locked into place. That is pretty stupid, and now that you mentioned it, I hate that. Bootleg Destiny failure at it again with the jank

What? I don’t understand the question. How is that relevant to Attrition being mandatory if you want the Cyber Showdown items?

That’s how the other events (and presumably every event going forward) is?

Okay? And this changes Attrition sucking how?

It doesn’t. My point is that each event is different (as it should be, otherwise it wouldn’t be an event now would it?) and that just because this one isn’t your cup of tea don’t mean a thing.

Ebb and Flow.

It kind of means a thing when I want the free items but the mode sucks. This is just further exacerbating why people hate the challenge system–forcing people to play how 343 wants in order to earn rewards, the exact opposite of “we don’t want Infinite to feel like a job.”

I’m enjoying it. It isn’t my favorite mode, but it is fun.

This gamemode is all fun & games until you get Behemoth

This. Overwatch events should really be the gold standard. Re-skin the map to be on theme with the event, a number of new game modes to try and a huge assortment of exciting new cosmetics that are all unlockable by playing the game. By playing the game in any mode, not just the new ones, I add.

It’s like Bethesda releasing Fallout 4 a few months after The Witcher 3. Surely they were embarrassed and ashamed knowing what their competition outputs next to theirs.

343 is way too incompetent to change grass textures to snow textures, and change all textures to neon blue and pink grid textures, but that would have made these events super cool had they bothered. We have no snow maps, and Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer already had basically exactly Cyber Showdown armors, weapons, and coatings, but also had the neon grid maps, so 343 could have went full bootleg on it.

Uncharted 3 multiplayer made block mesh maps with no textures, and people adored those maps. 343 could have easily slapped together some new low poly blocky neon maps for this event and extended it

When Forge comes, we’ll probably make some ourselves

How to fix Attrition -

  • BR instead of AR
  • Commando instead of Sidekick
  • Revives should respawn your character in a safe area nearby and NOT where the enemy is coming to stop the revive. I mean seriously, you are rushing in to get a buddy up. The last thing you want is to revive a player, he is stuck standing still for two seconds as the game registers his revive instead of a respawn, and he/she is completely vulnurable; giving the enemy a free kill 9/10 times.
  • Revives should be faster
  • No weapon pickups on the map, only equipment pickups.

By changing the weapons you spawn with, players should not have their revive balls all clustered together. Because a lot of what I am seeing is that people are using the AR and Sidekick to mow down the shields and then go in for a melee strike for the kill. This results in a LOT of action happening in closer ranges and thus the revives can be camped by the enemy.

With a BR instead of an AR, players will be more enticed to ranged combat scenarios and thus the revive points will be more spread out.

As for the Commando? A lot of people dislike the gun. But that is because compared to the AR, it does less damage at close ranges and compared to the BR, it is outclassed at high-range. So this would force players to learn how the Commando works and they will use it as a close-mid weapon when up close and personal, while the BR will be used for mid-long combat.

No weapon pickups because the fact that each team shares 8 lives and then the final ones are yours and yours alone; if an enemy team picks up a power-weapon it heavily shifts the scales and they can easily eliminate your allies. Equipment spawns however are still viable as they can give you an edge in the combat arena. Someone is harassing you with a BR? Deploy the Drop-Wall. You respawned away from your team? Get the Grapple or Thruster and employ evasive maneuvers while you flank the enemy or regroup.

…a simple 4v4? aight man

8 chances to respawn. then you have to be revived to respawn again. how is that confusing?

i mean, fiesta alone is just classic slayer, with more randomness. so no duh

personaly, i like the mode. it’s not the most unique, but a nice addition to halo’s list of playlisted modes. i hope it stays past the event

Unreleased variants of Tactical Slayer, Fiesta, Attrition, and other game modes, have been in offline custom games since day 1. If you like the modes, bookmark them offline, then invite people to play online. Attrition Fiesta and Attrition Dodgeball are even more chaotic

i never knew you could do that, i’l keep that in mind, thanks. sounds like a lot of fun, attrition fiesta

Well if you like Fiesta. Otherwise you can expect a quick team wipe if the other team has swords and rockets. You’ll probably never revive your teammates unless you also have swords and rockets.

Dodgeball is cool though because instead of only losing lives, you gain lives when you kill the enemy team. The goal is to fully wipe them and take all their lives. It’s a tug of war of lives.

can’t imagine it’s any easier with say attrition swat xD

i’l give that dodgeball mode a try. sounds… interesting for something like a halo game. another future event most likely

Yooooo, attrition dodgeball sounds like a blast. I kinda wish it was just that, a dumb, pure for fun mode.

I recommend adding Vampire traits to Dodgeball. Vampirism allows you to drain enemy health to refill your own health, or drain enemy shields to give yourself an overshield, if you set your health and shields over 100%. You can essentially rack kills and hold a 500% health bar if you are good enough, and it becomes Vampire Juggernaut Elimination Respawn Team Tug of War

It’s also fun to take it literally and have no weapons, grenades and grenade pads only. Grenades Dodgeball Attrition is a pretty decent custom game for how limited our options are.
