Attrition - it's good but

The “new” mode is good [“new” because it’s content that was holded back from release :wink: ] is cool but it is not helpfull at all when the A.I joins when there is a free place cause it’s just feeding the enemy… In a mode like this the A.I should be at difficulty Spartan… Like serious…

Really I’d just prefer to be man down and have more lives to work with since AI wont be feeding. They can still let someone join…

I don’t recall attrition being in any prior games… maybe Halo 4 with breakout, but even then, that didn’t have revives or the ring.

Don’t know why you’d out attrition in general when the issue is with bots and has already been mentioned with things like team slayer.

Edit: I do agree that bots could use some tweaking i general though, even ODST bots tend to be a detriment to most games.

The mode is full of sweats that move their team as an absolute unit of four. So if you die and try to regroup with your buddies, you have a whole team between you and your friends.

That and Randoms are hindrances to your team in this mode. I have had two matches where the random is AFK. And otherwise they just go off on their own to die.

And with how fast-paced the matches are, the revive mechanic is TOO slow to be effective, making one of the challenges to revive three teammates AN ORDEAL instead of a challenge. On top of that, once you are revived, you cannot move for a solid second. So when the enemy is on top of you, you are an easy target while your teammate that revived you is able to move and evade.

Just like any of the small squad modes, sweats come in with pre-built teams, and you become a punching bag, because 1v4. Even if you get a fair match there’s always that moment where you’re going to end up sitting on the no respawn screen at some point instead of playing the bloody game. Truly inspired gameplay.

I’m sick of these events forcing us into awful modes in order to progress.

Edit: I’m hoping attrition ends up in ranked, because it seems like it’s pulled a lot of sweat from the other smaller team modes.

this mode is meh. maybe better weapons starts will make it more interesting because right now all people do is charge at each other and all the orbs end up clumped together impossible to revive.

True. Gears was always fun cause the bots could occasionally win for you.

I also think the AI’s algorithm is not capable for a game mode based on strategy. They are just run and gun bots. Something needs to be updated to their algorithm so they can change play styles and interact with the mode closer to how humans would.

TLDR: Gamemode fun few things need to be looked at, Energy Sword (and other weapons of this type), teammates leaving and bots joining and starting weapons. But overall can be a fun mode.

I’ve only gotten to have a few games of the new Attrition mode so far and while i can see how the mode can be enjoyable when teams are evenly matched but there are a few things that would need to change for this type of mode to truly work.

To start i feel as though the Energy Sword is just a bit too strong for this type of mode with shared lives and few of them at that one energy sword user can decimate your team and lives before you know what to do. i understand that the energy Swrod has always been this type of weapon but in a mode like this i feel asthough the weapon should either be taken out or ammo lowered.

so far ive played only a handful of games but in a lot of them I’ve had teammates disconnect and be replaced with bots, this is a thing that will need to be changed as the bots only end up feeding the enemy and waste your lives, if the squads were put together to be on an even playing field then i dont see how placing in a bot that the players should be able to kill but still be difficult kill like ODST or Spartan bots.

The starting weapons in this mode are like most others the MA40 Ar and the Mk Sidekick, i do enjoy these weapons but having basicaly every gamemode use them as the base begins to feel old and boring, this could be replaced with loadouts like in other halos e.g halo reach. now im not saying this gamemode in particular im saying in general beingable to chage you loadout for example battle rifle and sidekick or mangler and commando these are things that need to be thought about, now i can see how this would/will be difficult to ballence and how very few weapons would be able to be put into this loadout screen as alot are speacial or just too strong to be able to start off with but i feel as though it could be done.

I agree with this. Especially on some maps like Recharge, where the Sword-Hammer Spawnpoint is a little closer to one team’s initial spawn than the other. Once one team controls this weapon in a game-mode where people are bull-charging one another; it can easily claim the lives you have.

Especially the Energy Sword, which can claim 10 lives before the battery runs out. So there go your 8 shared lives and two of your teammates are stuck in revival mode if the Swordplayer is someone who knows how best to use the tool.

This is something that needs to be done across the board.
I have yet to encounter a player who even plays at all like a Marine Bot, unless they are indeed a kid who is fresh to FPS games in general.
In all honesty, the bots that replace player should be on equal level to the player. Take a look at our stats before spawning in a bot. We lost our MVP because of a server issue? Welp, replace him with a Spartan Bot.
We lost the guy who has a record of having a KD that is 10/10 per match? Replace him with an ODST bot.

Loadouts are a sin of Halo 4.
But Reach’s Loadouts where we were able to choose which equipment we spawned with would be a bit interesting. Same guns every loadout, just different munitions.

My recommendation is Commando or Battle Rifle starts instead of the MA40 Assault Rifle. This way we would have a bit more range to work with and our fire rates / shield drains wouldn’t be as problematic.

Because as this gamemode stands rightnow, people are charging at one another with the Assault Rifle to melt shields and then going in to punch you to death. This just leads to all the revive points to be in the same general area rather than spread out. Given how long it takes to revive your teammates, it becomes a deathtrap for the losing team. With ranged weapons rather than the MA40, this issue would be a lot more rare to encounter.

I’m seeing a number of players jumping off the map in this mode. Maybe making the only means of progression through an elimination gametype was not such a good idea.

Even if you like attrition, I DONT WANT TO BE FORCED TO PLAY IT. I will say this a million times and I’ll never be heard but I just want to play big team battle and I hate that we’re forced to do challenges and game modes rather than incentivized to complete challenges. I forced myself to play a ton of attrition and I loved it at the beginning but after needing to grind the game mode and just hoping my teammates could have a neutral K/D, I have a new found hate.

I have one more thing to add TAKE OUT BAHEMOTH from the list of maps the vehicles are just not fair. this isnt a request please either take out the vehicles or the map.
Its not fun when you have limited lives and there is this one guy flying around in a banshee picking you off one after another

“If I wanted to watch other people play, I’d go to Twitch” - that thought literally went through my mind several times while doing this weeks challenges. Although it might have been made worse by the fact that basically all my other challenges needed me to play Team Slayer.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too I guess. I think a good fix is just disable AI joining, but you’re gonna have a 3v4 until someone drops in.

Funny the only jumping off i saw was when i pushed someone off. then there was this one game where my ally drove a warthog off with an enemy inside… killed them both but won the game for us.

One less person to leech lives.
