Attack/ Defend Game Mode

Hey guys,

I was in Matchmaking the other day, and I came up with an idea: What if an Attack/ Defend play style was implemented into matchmaking? It could follow the capture the flag format, with one team defending their flag from the other team. The attacking team would attempt to grab the flag and return it to their base while the other team would (obviously) try to hold them off for as long as possible.
I like the idea because it encourages strategy rather then the typical chaos in slayer and other game modes. The attacking team would have to have a fairly coordinated attack and the defending team would have to restrain themselves from attacking the other team (unless they want their flag stolen!) But, I recognize that some players like those game modes and would be opposed to this idea.
Anyway, just putting it out there. Feel free to tell me what you think.

It’s called one flag, it was a great gametype, so was assault. It was in the Halo games back when they were fun to play, before Reach and H4.

Then it should be brought back.

When I said, “As long as possible,” I meant to specify that there would be a countdown, and when the countdown got down to 0, the Defending team would win.

TF2 Payload game mode. Boom. Done.

I think it would, only problem is map size.

Possibly. You should create a thread to see what other people think.

When someone gives a wonderful argument for adding a 1-flag without even realizing that 1-flag exists, you know 343 did something wrong by removing it.

I’ve played through Halo Reach, 1, 2, 3, and 4, and played multiplayer on Reach and 4 (I only got gold recently). If I do say so myself, I am a fairly experienced player and would like to see a little more strategy come into the game.
It irritates me that 343 has taken out something that, in my opinion, would be a fun and different game mode option for the players. Now, that being said, I would be willing to part with the idea if the game mode was or would be rarely played and was/would only take up space and money. However, it appears that at least at least a few players used to enjoy this game mode, and some newer players would probably like it too.
My point: 1 Flag or Attack/Defend should be brought back!

I don’t usually do this, but BUMP.

Why are you bumping something that everyone already knows about? People have been complaining about the lack of old gametypes since launch. If you want to play 1-flag go check out The Halo Forge Epidemic on youtube to see how they set it up.

@Chrispy Toast Because it’s a topic that deserves attention. And it should have attention on the Halo fourms because it’s for Halo, not YouTube.

It would promote way too much camping in my opinion, and the DMR has facilitated that a bit too much already.

@PissedOffAngels What would facilitate more camping specifically? I don’t think an underwater level would increase the number of campers… :stuck_out_tongue:

I loved playing things like 1 flag/bomb on Avalanche in Halo 3. Those were some of my best memories. This is the first time in a Halo game that there are LESS options. Now I have to play slayer 24/7 in BTB. Boring. Its like 343 never played a Halo game before. I was hoping that Majestic would have included 1-flag or 1-bomb (among other gametypes). Oh well, theres still Halo 5. Maybe they will bring back all the good gametypes like 1-flag CTF, and ditch all the stupid ones that they added.

I like how 343 appealed to every group of the Halo Community, by removing things from each group that they either needed or loved.

I loved the one bomb and one flag gametypes in Halo 2 and 3. I like them better anyway. It’s more fun to always be on offense or defense. I was a little sad when it wasn’t in Halo 4. I was also a little sad that they took out assault because that gametype was a ton of fun.
