Do you think that Atriox, leader of The Banished, is gonna be one of the best Halo villains since the Prophets from the original trilogy or the Ur-Didact from Halo 4? Also, I’m not counting Jul’Mdama as a villain because even though he is labeled as one, he is not worthy of my presence, nor the label, and not even the title of “The Didact’s Hand”.
I hope so
I think Cortana will be really cool since I do think this game is taken in the time period after halo 5. It would be really cool to see that being taken into account with it.
EDIT: saw that my answer didn’t really went with the topic. I feel like it is too soon to tell for the moment. We have one maybe two videos and some excepts/ snippets that they have released. So much can change and happen till then
If I’m honest with you OP I generally didn’t feel that The Didact was a very good Villain.
However I will most certainly agree with you that Atriox is shaping up to be just as legendary of a villain as the prophets were in Halo 2.
Yes, I do. As a guy who has played every game & read every book, I can honestly say this is the most excited I’ve been about a single villain in Halo in… Maybe ever.
He beat three spartan IIs in hand to hand combat. He was the first individual to defy the covenant, and survive. He leads a deadly faction apparently more powerful than the original covenant. He is very intelligent, he is very strong and leads the strongest army in halo so far. Sooo ya.

Ym,what did Jul mdama do that declassified him as a villain ?
Well I haven’t seen him in game yet, but so far I like the backstory, I really hope I can say after this game that it is/was the best “villain” (probably after the prophets).
Atriox does really have a lot of potential so far. He seems like a really well thought out character. the whole HW2 story seems like it had a ton of effort put into it.

He’s unworthy to hold an energy sword and he went out like a -Yoink-.

Is that his fault? or 343’s writing and story team?

Bro. Fourth wall. We don’t talk about the fourth wall.
Jul M’dama was an awful leader who never once was seen on the field and even instructed his warriors to change the settings on their energy blades to burn at a lower temperature to cause more bleeding and a uglier less-easily treated wound. His method of approach was shady, cowardly and dishonorable.
Kind of hard to beat the Didact with his story and reasons for doing what he does but Atriox might beat him.
It does indeed look like the spirt of Fire is going to face a hard time, but thats why us Spartans have to be there.

…we always go fourth wall

That’s why he is unworthy to be in our presence. He’s not a true Sangheili warrior. He’s an arrogant coward who can try to muster an army. However, his arrogance of being The Didact’s Hand lead to his undoing. It’s over Jul! I have the high ground!! Oh yes, I went there. Jul was as arrogant as Anakin Skywalker was at the end of Revenge Of The Sith. I’m definitely going there and I don’t give a flying -Yoink- about it. Atriox would definitely wipe the floor with his entrails!!

Speaking of which, I remember watching a video where someone talked about some kind of connection between Atriox and The Didact. It’s far fetched but interesting.

The 4th wall doesn’t apply here when we’re talking about Jul-The Didact’s -Yoink- -Yoink- zealot fanboy-'Mdama. Not for this topic.
After how the Didact ended up, I start to wonder how Atriox gonna end, and what shameful thing 343 gonna bring on him.
