ATN setting up H6 enemy? (possible spoilers)

At the end of the credits Anders shoots from the Ark to find a Guardian. Cortana is trying to “bring peace” by putting Guardians everywhere. Is Master Chief going to convince Cortana to use the Guardians to fight the flood rather than fight species resisting her? The other way it could swing, it Cortana will go even more insane and want to activate the Halo’s killing all, but not AI’s.

Thoughts?

I like the thought of her going insane and wanting to kill all besides AI.

There’s also the possibility she has a bad case of the logic plague like Mendicant Bias did and is basically an agent of the Flood. Then it’s Chief vs. All

It could definitely turn out her wanting to kill the flood and all species. They could easily twist it where AI’s see organic life like a crop to grow just to harvest their brains for an AI mapping. How cool could they get with AI’s based off of other species.

I think its pretty clear at this point hat H6 will basically be:

Blue Team/Osiris/SoS vs Created & prometheans/Banished/Flood - not that all of the enemies are on the same “side” but we essentially have 3 enemy groups

It has always been a multifaceted opposition. Flood vs UNSC vs Covenant. With each working with one side against the other and then flipped.

Unless I’m wrong on this, I think everyone’s missing the fact that no where was said that ATN would be the end of the game, it could end with the Banished containing the Flood and there could be more expansions to give a proper closure to the story. Anyway, I think the only element from HW2 we could safely assure might be conected to H6 is Anders.

OP

You’re forgetting one thing.

How is the Flood supposed to get off the Ark? They’re trapped, the portal is closed, Cortana seemingly doesn’t want to go there. So there isn’t any risk of the infection spreading. The Spirit of Fire has plot armor and is the only ship in orbit. Even then it doesn’t have a slip-space engine. They actually can’t leave.

Plus if its a Banished Campaign then its reasonable to guess that the Banished will…win. That doesn’t add up to the Flood escaping the Ark.

If you think about the set-up, they have engineered a situation where you can safely have a limited outbreak of the Flood without it escaping to the wider galaxy. Whats at stake is “will Atriox and Cutter be killed” just as in HW1 the stakes were “will the Spirit of Fire win or will they die”.

I watched an interview at the San Diego comic con from way back and when asked if the Flood would show up they basically burst out in laughter. So, that’s came true. Since they adopted the same sort of tone and answer “That’s all I can say about that.” with regard to the Prometheans showing up; I personally think its way more likely that this is setting up an expansion where Cortana goes to the Ark and fights the Flood. Which is what her capturing Anders at the end of the HW2 campaign hints at.

That way this subplot ends with Cortana fully in control of the Array which sets up Halo 6. Plus if they seriously want to stress that “shes not evil” then having her kill Banished and Flood is a pretty easy way to do that. They can always bring back the Flood another way.

I was debating this. I’m not sure if the flood needs to come back to the main story line. I have considered the outcome of the Banished & the flood staying on the Ark with the Banished destroying the flood (and them selves) by blowing up the ark.

That is a very good possibility. I was hoping that another expansion would have Cortana as a leader fighting the flood. My other thought is the Banished and the Flood will die together on the Ark when the Banished blow it up to stop the flood.

In regards to how the flood would get off the Ark. You make all valid points, however, they have creative control. It would be easy to say “there is another portal!”. In the same way as in there was no indication of the flood on the Ark during the main campaign and they easily introduce it. They could also introduce it as Cortana opens a door to go fight them and then the flood go the through the door back to Earth.

I have not determined if the Banished have a place in the other story line or they are just the meant to be the villain of Halo Wars.

I’m sure if it’s an expansion pack, nothing that occurs within it will have any lasting consequences. It’s a sub-plot, being easily resolved. It most definitely isn’t setting up anything, it’s just there to extend the storyline and give you an excuse to play as the Banished, not fight the UNSC, and bring back the Flood, if only briefly. Just enough nostalgia to make veterans cry, but that’s it. That way, you don’t have to buy DLC to get the whole story, 343/AC isn’t that cruel.

I wouldn’t put it past them… The campaign ending was so lackluster and anti-climatic I was shocked I was done.

Considering the impact Halo 4 and the “Hunt the Truth” had on Halo 5, I’d say we won’t have a clue what Halo 6 will be like until we see Halo 6. Marketing and lore are meaningless. All hype will be ignored until I see gameplay, and by 2019 or 2020 or whatever I probably won’t care anyway.

I have noticed a severe lack in lore in the games… Maybe it is because I read the books too but lore definitely needs a boost. I mean, Spartans and Elites didn’t even use shields in this game… (cut scenes).

I thought Red Team’s armor was too old to have shields?

That is possible. There is mention of proto types starting in 2531, which is the year Halo Wars took place. This is the reason I accepted them having shields in the game. Halsey talks about it in her Journal on January 10th, 2536. She gives credit to Leonard Gillespie for the discovery and has him transferred to Reach. The were then officially standard on all Mark V models.2551. Regardless of if Red team had to prototype they need to keep a standard. Continuity. If they had it in the first game, they should in the second.
