Silly 343, DLC is for kids! (But not season passes, those are for players who like getting their money robbed legally). Seriously though, if ATN is only story-driven, then it’s not even worth $9.99.

Even better we can watch whole playthroughs as they are posted so we can see the cutscenes and gameplay to see how much they really expanded the story without paying a cent and helping content creators on the game.

I highly encourage anyone who feels burned by the DLC not being included to the same.

This forum basically is.

Thought I’d add my voice to this too. I generally stay out of any discussions, but this announcement has bugged me a lot since I heard about it. I apologize in advance if I repeat anything that has already been said.

These days, I don’t play online. I only play games for their campaigns and love seeing the MP community thrive. That being said, I specifically bought the UE with the understanding I would be receiving all the DLC associated with the game. I was not concerned about the leaders and extra MP maps, although it was cool to have them all in order to have a complete game.

In the past, 343i has received it’s fair share of hate. However, while I have had some complaints, I have had a generally positive view of them. These complaints are, in the grand scheme of things, minor. As a new studio, they knew they had a big responsibility to create a game for one of the largest and most loved franchises in the world. There have been complaints about how they executed their role and their design choices, sure. But in my mind, they were a new studio comprised of (nearly) a completely new team. I don’t think it would have made sense for them to keep doing what Bungie did. 343’s take on Halo was vastly different, but I liked what they did. They made design choices they believed were best for the game while keeping in mind the franchise they were working with. And if you look at the games released by them, no one can argue they are technically poor games. They are technical marvels. They feel amazing to play and I can jump into any of the levels and enjoy them just as much as the games developed by Bungie.

All this time, I held 343i in high regard as a good company. They did not expect players to pay full price for half a game and have to pay another $60 for the rest of it like many other companies that don’t need to be mentioned here. And when they did mess up with MCC, they worked to fix it. When I heard about Halo 5’s microtransactions, I figured the honeymoon period was over. I’ll mention again that I was not interested in the MP aspect of it, but I always want Halo MP to be great like it has been in the past. And guess what? The extra payments were only to enhance Halo 5; they never took away from the entire experience. I adored this business model. The option was there for people who wanted to pay for some extra goodies, but the rest of the community’s experience was unaffected. My respect for 343i increased. By this point, I would always be doing one of these whenever I heard about 343i: http://www.sharegif.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/applauseclappingthatgirltho.gif. I became an Xbox loyalist because my friend introduced me to Halo CE about 14 years ago. And I am so happy I have stuck with Xbox all these years. Halo has been my favorite universe since then and will be for the foreseeable future. Without going into any more long stories, I hold Halo very close to my heart and have a deep connection to it.

I felt the need to have a long prologue to explain where I’m coming from. Since the announcement about the paid expansion, I have begun to have concerns about the way 343i conducts the business side of things. I was first upset to hear there would be an UE since that contained a lot of important content and implied an incomplete game. But setting that aside for now, I raised the necessary funds to purchase the UE. I felt at peace knowing I had access to the entire game. Now I hear that my purchase was pretty much pointless. What have I gained from purchasing the UE? HWDE? I could have bought that separately. And while I would like to have the complete MP package, it’s not necessary. I end this thought in the hopes that this is another time where 343i themselves will come out and fix these doubts I am having just like they did with Halo 5.

343i, I really hope you get a chance to read this. Not because I have any hatred toward you. I love you guys. I simply wanted to speak out on a rare occasion as an ardent fan of the franchise. Please don’t make your business model like so many other companies have and alienate the fans who have stuck by your side for so long. Sure you’ll get your money in the short run, but you will lose a lot of loyalty, respect, and ultimately money in the long run.

Apologies if my thoughts seem all over the place. I only looked over what I wrote to fix typos.

So in my opinion thats false advertising. Now don’t get me wrong I now it probably cost a little bit to make it and so forth , but then they shouldn’t have stated it. At least most season passes that do this state a specifics (you know for the first 2 dlc’ s like destiny or the first years worth of dlc) Hell I’ll be happy if the just give me the first campaign dlc for free and then just do the leaders afterwards, they would be abiding by their advertisement techanlly.

That was the description prior to release of the game. I agree we should be getting the expansion but im trying to be as fair as possible by saying even woth this new description they are being shady and on purpose, misleading the consumer.

Yeah, I can fully agree on this point. I have been saying this the whole time.

Everyone appreciates the effort put into this game. Everyone understands that producing an expansion like ATN produces costs. OK. We agree on all of that.

But excluding content from the season pass AFTERWARDS it has been sold? WOW, thats just so bad practice. No words for that.

I have offered many times a solution where I can guess everyone would be happy with that:

Bring a reasonable DISCOUNT ON ATN FOR ALL SEASON PASS owners who have pre-ordere the Ultimate Edition for 90$ / 90€. This would be a fair compromise and would feel “right”.

This is an absolute joke.
A few years back games cost 60€ and they were finished. Then the DLCs came. Then the season pass came which was a sale for deciding to get every DLC. Now we are at the point that almost every game costs 90€ upon release that in fact includes the season pass but you often don’t know what it actually includes because it is way too early so that you don’t even know the game’s mechanics and whats important or fun and what not.
And now you start to bring DLC that is not included in a pass which was once supposed to give you every -Yoinking!- DLC ever available?!
And of course, give us some lazy new characters to play as who changes little with the season pass, but make the real, big DLC with new missions, completely new units, new environments, etc a stand alone not icluded one.
You will not get my money with this you greedy bugger!

Makes total sense. As for this topic I believe plenty of people has voiced their concerns for or against ATN being part of the season pass. There is even great ideas for remedies.

You embody my argument! And, actually, I think you embody most of what this whole thing is about and the whole respectful side of it as well, containing the towards eachother over a measely $30.
Your stance on the idea that raising those funds to give and have the entire game, not to worry about having to purchase any of it already paying that greatly high price which is even higher for other countries! I always come back hoping that someone will embody the argument and take the flag in a non-insulting way for what we as the side that wants ATN to be in the Seasons Pass, truly stand for, beyond the whole argument of comparing prices, and what other games did and how Halo Wars 2 is no different, or even that we should just suck it up and or ‘if you don’t like it, don’t buy it’.
Truth be ever so clearly told, I think we’ve lost the logical argument, it’s been done before and companies want money, it’s a known fact, but we as for the trust argument, well, we hold up on the fact that we were shocked that we weren’t covered, and what with the whole “343 changed the Season’s Pass description” thing, well that didn’t make it any better.
In my shoes, it should be beyond understandable of something like this, having mustered the entire Ultimate Edition worth of $25 gift cards, in what an “Ultimate” experience we would get. But than again, those are my shoes, and they probably wouldn’t fit on most of you, and well, big words like “Ultimate” aren’t as ultimate in this day and age anyway, I mean, look at Star Wars Battlefront “Deluxe Edition”.
An emote, and a meta pistol eh? Wow, that’s quite a luxury.

It is a frustrating trend games took. With enough fan out cry EA (seemingly) is taking a turn. I feel like 343 ignored what other games went through, are trying to correct and ignores their stake holders all to make a quick buck.

Hopefully they discount it for UE and season pass holders. Additionally, remember the mess of all their games when developing H6.

At least most season passes that do this state a specifics (you know for the first 2 dlc’ s like destiny or the first years worth of dlc) Hell I’ll be happy if the just give me the first campaign dlc for free and then just do the leaders afterwards, they would be abiding by their advertisement techanlly.

Or do as people before them have done by increasing the price of the season pass similar to what fallout has done while upgrading previous owners for free, if they had come out and said we have bigger plans for halo wars 2 and as a result need to increase the price i would have been fine with that, it also means those who got the season pass prior to the announcement got a massive deal.

They biggest argument I see discussed in all these posts is transparency. 343 dropped the ball with communication and instead just said “well ugh no, that’s not what we ment. Give us more money.”

> Well let’s see. A lot of people who use to be on Waypoint (I can only assume there aren’t nearly as many people left from the days before Halo 4 still posting now) kept up with the news coming out about Halo 4 before it was released and we kept warning 343 Industries that a lot of the things they carried over from Reach were actually why a lot of fans left Reach in the first place. We warned against armor abilities and instead suggested the continuation of the “equipment” from Halo 3 and yes there are a lot of people who didn’t like equipment but the thing with that is, equipment was balanced in that you had to pick it up just like a weapon or overshield or active camouflage. 343 Industries of course completely ignored these cries and kept saying “trust us”.

> We pointed out how the removal of dual wielding weapons didn’t make sense when considering canon. Specifically, the Mark V Mjolnir armor only had targeting software to allow for only using one weapon at a time at least when it came to creating and displaying HUD information. The Mark VI however had additional hardware and software in the gauntlets that allowed for the independent displaying of targeting information for two weapons, one held in each hand which is why going from Halo Combat Evolved to Halo 2 and 3 you could now hold two submachine guns or any number of combinations of weapons. When Reach came out it was stated that you were once again using Mark V armor, hence the health packs and the inability for a Spartan to dual wield. Some Elites would dual wield against you in the campaign but for balancing of multiplayer Elites were not allowed to dual wield in multiplayer. 343 Industries decided to completely ignore John having the ability to dual wield in Halo 4.
>
> We warned 343 Industries that John’s sudden armor change made no sense whatsoever and they came out with a statement after the game was released about it being “nano bots” despite the fact that John’s armor still has the chest plate damage from Halo 3 right from the start of Halo 4 in the same place. Also nano bots have never been mentioned or utilized again since this attempt to cover their own mistakes.

> We told them their art style looked more like power rangers and was just generally bad. Heck one of the H4 Spartan helmets looks like they have a full sized VCR attached to their face, I mean wtf? They kept the poor art style into H5.

> We gave them in depth criticism of the lighting system in Halo 4. The lighting in Halo 4 often results in Spartans “glowing” in rooms with no light source, energy swords, literally swords practically made of light not illuminating the area around them. Light bridges also suffer from this issue of having no illuminating affect on surrounding objects.

> We begged them for campaign theater mode and they claimed it “wouldn’t work”. Certain YouTubers even made videos to SHOW 343 Industries how to make campaign theater mode work and they ignored that too. Theater mode is huge for me. It’s how people make Machinimas, how we look at awesome game moments from any angle, we use to be able to render our films and watch them on Bungie.net, use to be able to save a 1000 films per map on Reach and 343 just continues to neglect that feature. Hell we even use to be able to watch films with up to 3 friends over Xbox live but that feature still hasn’t been restored.

At this point, do they even know that the fan opinion of them is predominately negative? Like, I know not all of us hate what they are doing but a lot of us do. It seems like they are holding their hands to their ears so they can’t hear us and are continuing to do things their way while ignoring fans. And they do it in such a rude way. I know that we aren’t the ones in creative control, but they could at least listen to our concerns. My advice, we should speak with our wallets. Don’t buy their games until they start listening to us. With the sales dropping from Halo 5 and Halo Wars, plus the lack of sales being the big reason Halo 3A isn’t happening, I would say we are catching on. They can only not listen so much before it hurts them as a company and we force their hand.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t WANT them to go under. I don’t want hundreds of people to lose their jobs. But they can’t keep ignoring us. Maybe they will get the hint and actually release something we like. The last game I enjoyed was Halo 4. Nothing since. Of course, a certain person who wrote Halo 5 and Escalation being the story lead is not helping. They need to shake things up, stop focusing on multiplayer, stop focusing on micro transactions, go back to mid 2000’s gaming where we focused more on campaign and gameplay, and people will start liking them again.

Micro transactions shoe that people are willing to spend their money on half finished games. Instead of working to achieve that armor or character they can just pay for it. My money goes to my son. So I get to play the long game and unlock things slowly. I remember (Pepperidge farms…) when I would see rare armor and think “That guy has recon armor!” (I can haz?). Now I think “wow that kid had dads credit card!” But people pay, so companies will keep doing stupid things until their fand and stake holders are fed up.

I honestly do not understand why 343 would follow the footsteps of EA. Even EA is trying to correct it, but it’s too late. Their name is ruined and known widely across the gaming community as shady money mongers.

I was under the impression that the season pass would contain any of the upcoming dlc including the awakening the nightmare expansion. We haven’t even received the full amount of content from the original season pass and what little content we have received are several characters with limited differences. I am very disappointed with how this is turning out and it discourages me from playing a game that I enjoy.
