I think what we are seeing is the result of 343/Microsoft just milking Halo. 343 can just toss out a Halo title and wring out every penny they can. They don’t have competition from other devs driving them to make a better Halo, they only have directives to bring in more Halo revenue. That means fans get treated like walking ATM’s, and the games go up in cost and down in quality.

Yeah I can see that. Their big mistake was trying to cater to a new generation of gamers under the brand of an old game series that wasn’t known in the past for yearly releases with dumbed down combat. Halo was always been a game with a very specific niche of gamer. A lot of the younger generations will view Halo as old and washed up so they won’t even bother picking it up and those that do jump ship as soon as the next big fps release comes out a few months later. As for the veterans who have been playing the original trilogy for many years, these new Halo’s don’t cater to a lot of us and as a result a huge number of us jumped ship on Halo 4 mere months after it came out and now with the MCC and 343 insisting on sticking with their new failing path for Halo, most of us see no reason in buying these new bare bones microtransaction filled Halo imitations.
This is standard practice in the gaming marketplace at the moment. Stop throwing poop out of your monkey cage and observe what is happening in the world around you.
- Yes, games are more expensive. - Yes, games need a revenue stream. - Yes, the season pass could have been explained more clearly. I cannot imagine working in the gaming industry and dealing with customers like this. Does anyone have a good convincing religion I can check out? I should pray/give thanks to some form of deity for not picking that career path.
The embodiment of the gaming community is a baneling, or a screaming wretch from gears of war 1. Straw poll?

The simple option would be for them to simply charge more for a COMPLETE game at launch. Instead we get half a game at launch, buy a season pass to get the other half, then get hit with paid dlc and microtransactions. Throw in the fact that new consoles are rolling out like new iphones and it kinda does make the monkey want to fling poop. Gaming is getting expensive. I mean it was never cheap, but they’ve pushed past my commitment to the hobby.

Pretty soon it’ll reach Warhammer levels of overpriced stupidity. If it isn’t like that already.

So in retrospect i can understand activison’s bad practices. But ive been playing CA games for awile and they have a multitude of expansions. 343 has given us leaders and has been balancing the game out while they communicate.
AtN could be one of many expansions, and im glad they didn’t put it in the season pass. They shouldn’t work for free. Everything they do takes skill and dedication, even if they mess up or don’t satisfy fans or consumers.

Uh we paid for the season pass/ultimate edition in advance didn’t we? That’s not called working for free where I am from it’s called being paid in advance. And I also have to disagree with 343 communicating. I mean yea sure they’re finally saying something, but this thread wouldn’t have been a thing if they clearly addressed anything outside of community updates that only a few people follow.
Also again, I disagree on your last point too. If they do a crappy job you shouldn’t get paid, at least the full amount. You’re paid to do a job and meet/exceed expectations. You don’t do a piss poor job and then ask where your money is.
Double post. Thanks error message saying it didn’t post /s

Ah yes the good old “this is standard practice, get over it” argument.
Do you remember online passes? They were standard for a while and everyone hated them since they forced you to either buy a game new to get the online pass included or they’d include “bonus” DLC (basically cut content if you bought the game used) that you’d miss out on and have to pay a decently high price for if you wanted to play online or get characters and items in a single player game (Mass Effect 2 did this and I love that game, but I would’ve missed out on a few extra missions and an entire squadmate if I got it used). Eventually, after gamers kept complaining about how anti-consumer it was they finally went away and people can buy used games again.
So what’s the lesson here? Your argument holds about a much water as a strainer. If people settled on “it’s the standard, get over it” video games would still probably be considered a taboo and we all be playing on Xbox Ones with DRM and mandatory online check-ins.
You’re welcome btw that you don’t have to deal with any of that anymore, but hey yea we’re annoying and compared to monkies because we’re trying to make sure other consumers as well as ourselves don’t get shafted.
Maybe try to actually add something meaningful to the discussion rather than meaninglessly insult others over the internet like a 4 year old, because I can very easily tell you I don’t care at all what you say about me, especially since it’s clear you have the maturity of a -Yoink!-.

If people stop pre ordering games, they would have to sell themselves on how good they actually are instead of the hype train we see these days. It would greatly diminish games that are bad or have terrible QA.

I can mostly agree with that. Halo Wars 2 was one of the most mediocre games I’ve ever played campaign wise. They somehow made a RTS game a shooting gallery for the campaign. Seriously I spent a lot of time during the missions building up resources and then I just rolled units out and stomped on the enemy.
Sad part was I still finished most missions below par time.

This. I thought Halo Wars 2 would be a safe bet and it was the first game I’ve pre-ordered/pre-loaded in a while, but sadly I was wrong.

Should’ve played on Heroic or Legendary, wouldn’t have stomped on the enemy as easily probably.

I finished it on Legendary and it is still accurate. Lots of unit spamming (if the OP leader power didn’t wipe my army as they marched). I would agree this game left me begging for more. If blur costs so much we lose good writing and deeper story line… Go back to something cheaper. This game was stupid mediocre with campaign and MP I was pissed I bought the ultimate edition. I mean, one blitz map… ONE?! Now I need to pay more yo get an expansion to make the lackluster campaign feel more like a complete game? Ugh…

You paid in advance. No ones fault. You recieved content and will continue receiving twenty extra dollars worth of content.
AtN is not part of the season pass so my “working for free” statement holds. Not all se8ason passes cover a games many dlc. The shady aspect that people find worrisome is mostly people expecting what they aren’t/weren’t entitled too and not being satisfied with their current product.
Atn will be a new mode and campaign with new features and two leaders. The seasonpass was paid in advance for things we expected but weren’t 100% sure would be satisfying. Do to leader reveals, what if someone didn’t like the leaders or wanted something else, jusy because they paid for it? You get what is given to you and in the end Atn wasn’t part of that.
And making a mistake isn’t doing a piss poor job. Some people may enjoy the content given, some may not.

I’m not so convinced. I think I lost 4 maybe 5 units each mission max each mission with the exception of the Decimus fight because my units refused to listen to orders when he his giant AoE and the second to last mission because you have to defend the points and anytime you leave a point so your units don’t get wrecked by the forerunner mega sentinel like 8 banished units appear and cap it back and when you go to fight them the sentinel just shoots at your units only.
I’m 90% sure I didn’t lose a single unit in the last mission either even when I got bumrushed by that final wave.
Making it so enemies take less damage and do more shouldn’t be what I have to do to make the game more strategic.

Okay well this is clearly going nowhere since you’d rather dance around the points by splitting hairs and ignore the other points mentioned in my posts as well as the rest of the thread entirely so fine we’ll agree to disagree because I’m not about to waste time doing this when you seem to have an excuse prepared for everything.

Plenty of “original fans” are present. I play consistently with memebers of my company since Halo 5 came out. Sure we can see problems, and even play other games from time to time becayse we arent living in nostalgia. Halo caters to a specific type of gamer, and and RTS very specific.
No one can hope to win over every generation. My younger siblings love Halo old and new. My older friends are now married with kids and don’t have time to play Halo just because its Halo.
Microtransactions are apart of the current game market, just because Halo has them doesn’t mean they milk fans. Sure the idea is that people like Halo, and because of that they’ll keep making money. But the quality has gone up in their games, whether people like their new Halo or not.
