ATN Not In Season Pass?

Wait, they discussed it?! Is it here, or where is it?

The past two community updates

They bring up how the season pass doesn’t cover this piece of DLC, not how the season pass is very misleading to the general public. Every Halo player I’ve talked to who isn’t an avid Waypoint user (which seems to be the majority) has been shocked and quite upset that their purchase of the season pass or of the ultimate edition of Halo Wars 2 would not get them this new DLC. When the majority of purchasing customers are expecting one thing but getting another, the failure isn’t with the customers but with the company misleading their customers, whether they intended to or not.

I have just read it.

Its really being appreciated that new and awesome content is coming. But I would guess that 90% of the people bought to season pass to get exactly the campaign expansion which is now coming for extra money. Its not loosing the bad taste it has.

We all love Halo Wars 2 and Halo in general. But I think something has to be done to send a signal to the community. A discount for all Season Pass owners would be a signal which would feel right.

No, you should read the latest Community Update closer. They specifically said they could have been more clear about things in advance. They took the blame for the confusion.

Just read it here. They acknowledge it, they even go so far as to say “they aren’t thrilled” about the confusion but not once did they apologise in the entire post recognizing their screw up. Not once do they offer something to say they’re sorry for the confusion or create or outline a way for those who bought the season pass under false pretenses to be able to get a refund. Yes 343 Industries occasionally acknowledges their screw ups but they almost never do anything to make up for or fix things that they have screwed up. Heck, I’m still waiting on word from them about the next batch of fixes and features being added back to the MCC as was originally promised by Bonnie Ross in December of 2014.

I am not saying MCC doesn’t need fixes, nor am I saying they have a perfect track record. I’ve been “outraged” just like every other Halo fan at things like MCC and the barebones release of Halo 5. Trust me, I’m not taking the side I am because of bias.

But I do not believe this is an instance deserving of half the anger it’s causing. I read the description of the season pass when I purchased the Ultimate Edition and it specifically said that it covered 6 months of content. To me, that implied content existing beyond the season pass. No, it was not confirmed and could they have been more clear about it? Sure. But how many here could honestly say that they would have NOT purchased the Ultimate Edition if the pass said “There will be content after the 6 month timeframe that is not covered by the season pass.”

Well, I think most reasonable people would say, “It depends what kind of content.” And that leads us to where we are now: It’s entirely up to you to determine whether or not ATN is worth it. To me, there’s plenty of value in there to justify the $20.00 price tag. That may just be me, though.

Additionally, why would an apology change anything here? They apologized for MCC yet it’s still (justly) brought up. Apologies are hollow and we know that. I’m not saying they can’t be genuinely sorry, but would it REALLY change your mind and the minds of everyone here if they said it? Not likely. We both know that.

I agree with most of what you are saying but I have to defend the side of the “outrage” as we’re calling it. I agree that people SHOULD read the fine print of whatever they are buying or are signing up for. Hell retailer’s HATE me when they are trying to get me to sign up for a new credit card or when I have to accept terms and conditions because I stand there and read/scroll through the entire document before I accept/sign it. Whenever a new update appears on Xbox live and I have to once again accept the new terms and conditions it may take me between 45 minutes and hour to go through it all but I do it.

Realistically I probably represent less than 1% of people in that regard. I believe more people use to read terms and conditions of season passes back when it was a new concept but now that every game has a season pass (unfortunately… Needless to say I haven’t bought any new games in a while because of this) now days. Most people would be like “Hmm I loved all the extra story I got with my Witcher 3 season pass, I’ll get the season pass for Halo Wars 2 as well” without reading a thing about what is included or in this case, not included.

From a design viewpoint, one of the first things designer’s are taught is that most users are stupid. This is not meant as an insult but more of a joking fact teaching new designer’s that just because something tells a person how to use something, does not mean they will read or use it that way. For example, if you design a door to be pulled open but you find that the majority of people using said door try to push it open, there is an issue with your design, not with the people using the door. The point at which you must put a sign on the door that says"Pull", you have failed as a designer because that is another point that designers learn: Users don’t read.

Same applies to those who bought the Halo Wars DLC expecting to get an expanded story with the season pass purchase. In this case however one must also question whether or not 343 Industries knew this would happen and did it on purpose. It may be “legal” because they wrote out what is included in the season pass and for how long but if they knew people would still expect something different but proceeded anyway in order to cash in on people’s tendency not to read, that is an extremely unethical business practice.

At least with MCC they gave people the ODST expansion for free as part of their apology for the problems. It made me feel a little appreciated at least even if if didn’t directly fix things.

Oh and to answer your question about what they gain from saying sorry, I view it more as what do they have to lose by saying they screwed up and that they are “sorry”?

> How do you know? We are not even at 4 months post release yet…

Because the devs have finally flat-out said what they’re giving season pass holders. Look at the latest community update. It ends in 6 months. (despite what they say, Forge doesn’t count. He was free for everyone, and it’s safe to say most people who were interested in the game bought it during the period he was free.)

The problem is, is that they should’ve been up-front about this from the very beginning, and should not have edited the season pass description without notifying people who purchased it.

I think this is the last time I’m posting anything on this thread. I’m over it.

From my point of view, there are two opposing perspectives here. There is no clear evidence that either side is right or wrong. It’s a matter of perception and/or opinion.

1 side see’s this issue and has no problems with it. They are going to get everything they wanted in the season pass and they understand that ATN and all that comes with it was not included in the pass. They are willing to pay the $20 without a doubt and are excited for the expansion (not to say the other side isn’t excited). They stand firm that there was no evidence to support the opposing side of the argument and hence they will probably not “convert” or flip sides.

The other side sees what was included in the language and perceives it as lies and deceit. This side argues that promises were broken by 343 and that ATN should be included with the season pass purchase. Their view is that there is indeed a difference between the terms “expansion” and “missions” and the fact that this term was changed, proves that 343 lied. This side stands firm in their belief that they have been deceived and are upset about 343’s decision to make this a separate expansion available at a $20 cost to them.

My best friend’s opinion/perception, on many things, is the complete opposite of mine. We argue because we disagree about many situations. This chick is better looking than that chick, Messi is better than Ronaldo (which is true), and so on…

I feel like I’ve said it 100 times on here… It’s perception/opinion on both sides.

I myself stand by the side that has no issues or problems and doesn’t feel deceived or lied to, but I’m done arguing that point. I can understand how someone else would see differently, because I understand that there is no evidence to support, which leads to opinions and perceptions. I think we should all agree to disagree…?

As Peter Griffin would say “well then weeee are on two different wavelengthsssss”…

> Don’t see you in top 250 in deathmatch, you play blitz or whatever will get you more blitz packs, so when you rank in deathmatch let me know! Again blitz, also f rank there is not even in game leaderboards, there is no point. Also you won’t make it to top rushing tech.

Okay PM each other this stupid garbage. I’m just going to report your comments since it seems like you’re derailing the thread to get it locked on purpose.

He wants to spam it enough so a mod has a reason to lock it.

This. Talk it to death until we get a resolution. Nobody is forcing anyone to stay around for this thread. If you don’t like it, don’t click it. Gee so hard.

Pretty blatant that 343 Industries doesn’t like when we bring up their bate and switch sales tactics, half promises and sometimes blatant lies. Even so, hopefully after enough people speak up about how they only bought the season pass under the understanding that they would be getting all the DLC they will rethink their strategy. Or hopefully someone can attempt to bring legal action against 343i. They don’t have to win, the point would be more of getting their shady business tactics publicized.

Problem being not everyone reads those or pays attention, especially the wider public.

They shared the update on Twitter? How else would they share it with people?

Mm I received Xbox Live messages from Ubisoft with their games.

Edit: In fact, I got Xbox Live messages from 343i regarding the MCC as well. Nothing with this game though shrug

I think comparing this situation to the MCC debacle is kind of a reach.

That said Xbox messages could be another medium.

Just saying. There are a multitude of mediums they could use in order to alert their customers as to a change in the season passes offering. Placing it in an update here on the forums or even twitter for that matter where it’s known that only a very, very minor amount of their fan-base frequents is not an appropriate substitute when every single one of their consumers has an Xbox Live or Windows account since it’s required to play the game.

For a company that handles business regularly, who is attached to Microsoft and who likely has a meeting with a multitude of people including lawyers and public PR people regarding any change in information to the public or regarding a change in a product, it was far too sloppy to be an accident.

Edit: In the basic, 100 or 200 level business classes offered in college, part of the work is figuring out whether or not it’s more cost effective to recall or make an announcement on a defective (even life-threatening, surely to kill some people) product or to handle the law suits/settlements involved. In business they start you off not caring about the customer.

I absolutely refuse to believe a company as big as Microsoft and 343i is that poor and sloppy to have issues with three separate games in a row and not learn from their mistakes for there to be “confusion” on the matter. It’s not “confusion”, it’s a company employing shady practices at the expense of their customers to turn more profit.

It’s not like 343i is exclusive to it either. I haven’t purchased an Activision, EA or Ubisoft game day 1 since 2014. It sucks because the Halo IP is my favorite along with the original Fallout games and Metal Gear Solid, but I can’t see myself supporting 343i the way I have since The Fall of Reach anymore either.

Ok, yep, they admitted that they could’ve explained it better, and darn right they could’ve!
Well, I think I’m done here, we all have a lesson to learn from both sides today, and I think we all know that nobody is better than the other so I think it might be time to drop.
To letting us hope this crappy communication doesn’t happen again!

Yeah hopefully lessons are learned on both sides of the issue. Lots of confusion, hopefully it all smooths out in the near future… and 343i improves on their communication with the community.
