ATLAS app virtually useless for experienced Reach players?

I’m kind of disappointed with what it sounds like the ATLAS app is all about. I’ve spent hours and hours playing matchmaking Reach online, and it seems like the only thing that will be provided when playing matchmaking are weapon and vehicle spawn locations.

This makes the app virtually useless for me. I’ve already got all the weapon and vehicle spawns memorized, and I don’t play custom games, so what good is this app for me? Please tell me I’m misunderstanding how this app works…

Nope, you are understanding it fine, you can also see where your team mates are in a near real time environment.

But hey, put it this way, it’s 4.99 on Android or iOS, no one is forcing you to buy it and use it.

Not only that but I think it’s a little counter-productive to look at your phone to see where your team is when you can look at their service tags.

Might be a bit more useful on Invasion, but it still feels a little weird looking at my phone just to see where they are. My eyes are still good enough to see the transparent non-fireteam IFF waypoints.

Unless I’m reading it wrong and that’s not how it’s used. >__>

I’d almost rather have it be a feature in-game… You’d still have to link up your phone first, which would still make it free for WP7 owners, of course >_>

So it’s correct that you can see where teammates are in real time for Matchmaking? That’s good news, as I can think of instances when I’d use that.

And I’ve got a Windows Phone, so it’s free for me either way. I was just a little disappointed because I was expecting it to do more for matchmaking.

This is one of the reasons I feel a little disappointed. I thought they had said a while back that it’d tell you more info because you have the disadvantage of constantly looking down at your phone. I guess their playtesting told them that it really was too advantageous to have all that info despite the fact that you’re going to be averting your eyes from the TV a lot to get it.

It could be that this is just the beginning. There could be more functionality that’s enabled in the future. Who knows. This could just be the initial release.

I may buy it for this reason alone. It is pretty interesting, and I like the idea of it being an in-game GPS you can use right next to you. My TV is set up in a way where I can just prop the phone and look at both.

What were you expecting?

At five bucks, I should be allowed to call down orbital strikes wherever I touch on the map. :stuck_out_tongue:

Exactly what I was thinking. I’m sure as soon as it’s released, there will be a flood of feedback. I’m sure they have a development path in mind, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be new elements introduced based on user feedback.

I also may try it out and kick the tires. I usually have my cell well with in arms reach in front of me as I’m playing. It’s wouldn’t be that hard to keep it propped up and at eye level in front of me. Now, if they only made an iPhone holster that snapped onto my controller…

Replace the ordinance with donuts and I bet you’d pay double. :stuck_out_tongue:

God, I would pay quintuple.

Honestly, I’m sort of dissapointed it’s only going to be on mobile devices, and not usable on a normal computer.

Or, while we are at it, not in the game itself.

I think it’d be cool if you downloaded / purchased it, it gave you a code to enter on this website so you can look at it here.

Or if it was tethered to your xbox, it would appear on screen…

That’s a bit way too much of an advantage, I think. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still for the Orbital Drop Jelly Donuts, though.

I wonder if people where not disapointed before? I didn’t expect it to be on the Iphone and the Android. I’m ok with paying 5 dollars as we are not using the windows phone 7. It will be fun.

Im very happy they are bringing it to iOS5. I don’t know any other gaming company this dedicated to enhancing our gaming experience.

U may have played the game tonnes, so have I but I can see where dropped super weapons are and where my team mates are for less than a BIG Mac meal…

Bring on ATLAS, thanks 343i

I like where your heads at, Noble.

“KA FIVE, HELP ME! He’s got rockets! Look at your ATLAS, grab the sniper!”

“K. One sec.”

-Taps screen above my head to get a donut, my team rage quits-

343i, make me proud.
