At first I expected a Reach model...

Over the years we have seen these:

I was thinking “how can 343 top that last image?” (yes, the second and third images sport different models of master chief designed by the now disbanded CMT Crew)

yet, they did with this:

P.S. sorry that i couldn’t find a way to just show the images. I was sort of in a hurry. As you can see, the time I posted this at was late for a school night.

I wish they had just used the Reach models of Mk. V for Chief in CEA.

The slight redesign from Reach to CEA looks terrible to me.

Reach model looks nothing like MC did though.

Although originally I agreed with this sentiment, I’m now having mixed feelings seeing how the finished Mk. V came out, as it really does stay true to the original Model in Halo:CE. The texturing looks absolutely amazing quite frankly. I never had a problem with Chiefs helmet back then playing Halo:CE, but nowadays comparably with Mark VI and H:3/H:R Mark V Updates, it looks too flat on the top with the “Sun-Visor” pieces.

It’s asking too much, but it would’ve been nice to give a nod to Reach in having you be able to “unlock” a “Reach Model” of MC to play as, or even Mark IV (Halo Wars Model? / Mark VI, etc.). I love when games do this (Star Wars Force Unleashed as an example), but it’s never been the Halo/Bungie thing to do and I doubt it’ll ever be the 343 thing to do either.

I’m just glad we didn’t get the “placeholder” they were using at e3. All in all, they did an amazing job staying true to the armor in Halo:CE and updating it for today’s graphics and they should be proud of their work.

(I’ve also noticed the Marines so far don’t have the “enclosed” MP Security helmets as they did in Reach a long with the Green/Brown colors, and instead utilize more of a UNSC Army Trooper uniform/helmet setup with the light gray of the Keyes Uniform, as evidenced by the photo in the Official XBox Magazine Halo:CEA Article Special. I’d frankly like to think of them as the UNSC Navy Troopers, if that’s at all possible)

I don’t want to get too wrapped up in the nuances and instead just enjoy the fact that we’re getting an updated Halo:CE. I’m gonna miss the Splazer, BR/DMR, and other newer weapons though :frowning: .

I love the new MC model soooo much, looks great to me. Good job, 343!

this

Although I have to admit I’m impressed with the look, it’s nostalgic, but the redesign kinda breaks the canon look in my mind stablished with reach…

Maybe chief’s model is like a 1.01 of the mark V =) and nobles were the ginea pigs with the modular 1.00 mark V… hmmm

I know… lame excuse…

I think it looks awesome =)

From what I understand, the “Mark” of armour is more about what’s on the inside rather than the looks. Take a look at the different variations of Mark IV armour shown throughout the series (Jorge’s armour, Halo Wars and Cole Protocol cover). I remember Frankie saying somewhere that they’re all canonical versions of Mark IV, but just have different outer appearances. The same could be said with the Halo Reach Mark V and the Halo 1/Halo Anniversary Mark V.

Because you know, Halo: Reach really stuck within established canon during the campaign. LOL

It did. Reach alters some canon, but in no way breaks it.

New MC looks great minus the chest piece. Wayyyyy too bulky and ugly. They should use the Reach chest.

They focused too much on making him look nostalgic, forgetting that he only looked so blocky and ugly back then because that’s what graphics looked like 10 years ago, that was the limitations of the technology.

Nice to see some reference to CMT for Anniversary.

While I may like the CMT v2 Chief a little more, I’m still perfectly fine with the way he looks in Anniversary even if his chest piece is a little odd.

I’ve noticed that too, but it’s something we’re going to have to life with, sadly. I really liked the look of the Marines in Reach, but I’ll probably get used to it.

If that’s the case, than explain Halo 2. Halo 1’s MK V didn’t look bulky because of the limited polycount they had, in fact the Halo 1 model has MORE polys than the Halo 2 model and about the same amount as the 3 model.

I don’t know why no one has ever actually stopped and thought about functionality over aesthetics, as that was the whole point of the Halo 1 suit. It was bulky, because there was a GUY in it. The armor’s thickness ranged from 1 inch to 4 inches, OF COURSE IT’S BULKY. Now look at the Halo 2-3-reach mjolnr. There’s no way in hell the armor could actually hold a person. The armor itself has the thickness and proportions of a regular naked dude. That is IMPOSSIBLE.

Plus the Halo 2-reach models looked ridiculous anyway. From the unprotected butt cheeks of reach, to the individual breast plates and slouch of Halo 2 and 3’s design, I really have to wonder what you people are thinking when you say they look “better” in any sense of the word.

Yeah i got ur point, but as it turns out the “unprotected” hind of our spartans are protected… u see the dark/black parts… actually armor, the bulk of the exterior is just another armor layer… u gotta think the guys gotta sit sometime… try putting some iron boxers and sit down… no small task budy =]

But the thing is the new model looks good… it IS a great remodel of the original and for what is worth it does deliver when it comes down to a remake of the original… i just like reach’s version better because it looks actually more industrial desing like… u know more realistic, the CEA just looks a remodeled chief, and it’s cool on that, but doesn’t look (in my humble opinion) like a space marine from the future… wich reach’s mark v does remarkably good, well save the mark V shoulders… I really prefere the CEA arm models… i mean just look at the chief’s boots they’re Buzz Lightyear like in CEA but reach kinda offers a downgrade fill of the mark VI…

But again this is just my opinion… u know what would be really cool in the end… if 343i offered the two chief models for the campaing, one like he is now and one based on reach’s mark V… like an unlokable feature, just for fun.

I have no problem with this. They’re doing what they can with the new graphics engine laid over the old.

I’m gonna give 343 the benefit of the doubt.
