343i could add any asymmetric map to H4 and make Slayer balanced simply by adding rounds and switching the spawns each round. As long as there are an even amount of rounds (or as many rounds as there are teams in the case of multi-team) then each team would get equal chances.
I made a thread about this for Halo Reach and it went relatively unnoticed, probably because it’s been out for a while and rounds are unlikely to be implemented. However, H4 isn’t even at the public beta stage yet and there is stil plenty of time to get this in the game!
What do you think?
EDIT: I found the original thread I made on bnet and you can read that if you so wish here
Asymmetric maps don’t need rounds to be balanced, they only need to be well designed. One way to make such a map is, slightly simplified, to make the attacking side heavier on power weapons and the defending side having better view over the map. Asymmetric map can also be balanced by having a good set of attack routes, but still giving the defending part of the map the high ground.
Examples of well balanced asymmetric maps are Hang 'Em High, Damnation, and Lockout. All these maps played very well on Slayer and used different methods to balance both sides. These maps can definitely be learned from when making an asymmetrical map.
We definitely need more asymmetric maps. While symmetry is pretty much a necessity for symmetric objective gamtypes such as Assault and CTF, asymmetric maps are great for Slayer and asymmetric objective such as Oddball, One Flag, and One Bomb.
