Wow, this one took a while to write! So much chopping and changing of the story until I got it right. I was sat on the lake front in Queenstown New Zealand while I didn’t it though, so it wasn’t all bad. Enjoy.
Game - Halo 9: Reclamation - April 2027
Halo 9 would be split into two halves, the first 10 mission campaign arriving in April 2017, while the second 10 mission half would be as DLC in December. The first half you will play as the Chief, Locke and the Arbiter, while the second half is mostly Chief and Locke.
The game opens up with you playing as Locke, you fighting through a Sangheili ship with Vale. Over the tannoy you can hear the Rtas Vadum calling out for you to be found. A short while later, you enter into a room where Vale is shot down by the Rtas, who then engages Locke. Locke manages to break free and kills Rtas, before the Arbiter steps in. Locke and the Arbiter engage is some hand to hand combat before he manages to grab Locke around the neck and drive his energy sword through his chest! “For Sanghelios!”
The game then jumps back several weeks to just before the end of Halo 8: Bastion. War breaks out on the space station where the Master Chief and the Forerunners landed, the Ancient Humans and the ONI agents against the UNSC forces led by the Chief and the Forerunners. All hell breaks loose. Hood dies in the initial attack, and in his dying moments, asks the Chief to find a way to fix things. Playing as Locke, now an ONI agent, you and Veronica Dare are attacked by UNSC forces and eventually escape to the Spirit of Fire with her, including the leader of the Triumvirate (Ancient Humans), and a collection of ONI controlled ships followed promptly by Alpha 9 and the Olympus. The other Two Ancient Humans head off in the direction of Reach. When Chief, Blue Team and the Forerunners are about to follow, a message is received from the Didact, telling him that if he wants the Human race to survive the war, he should meet him on Reach.
Over on Sangheilios, you play as the Arbiter, as the Ancient Humans show up on Suban, one of Sangheilios’ moons. You fight to stop them and their advanced ONI troops in order to protect your people. You come to learn that the Ancient Humans are looking for something hidden within the moon and begin strip mining it using acquires Strato Sentinels, destroying Sangheilios settlements as the go.
Picking up with Locke, he realises that he’s on the wrong side and escapes the Spirit of Fire and link up with Alpha 9 and the Olympus that have arrived. You find that the ONI forces have discovered the entrance to an Ancient Human ship, previously used as a base of operations by the Triumvirate before they were defeated and the ship was encased in rock and left orbiting a then uninhabited garden world. Once fully accessed, the ONI forces would have access to a plethora of advanced weaponry.
On Reach, the Chief lands to find the Didact has managed to return to organic form using an upgraded Composer. He tells you of a Forerunner artefact that holds the current location of Maethrillian, previously located by the Supreme Commander Rho 'Barutamee during the invasion of Reach. From here you battle the Ancient Humans in a race to secure the Luminary and the location of Maethrillian. Your efforts prove to be not enough however, as the Ancient Humans manage to gain access first and head off to the location. Chief and his team follow.
Back on Suban, as the Arbiter, Atriox and the Banished show up. They are an enemy for a brief time before Atriox manages to convince the Arbiter that he cannot defeat the Human forces without his help, which he eventually agrees to in order to save his home world.
As Locke, you accompany Alpha 9 on a ground mission to access the Ship inside Suban. You battle with the enemy all the way to the uncovered entrance where they come up against Dare and the Ancient Human. Mirroring the scene in Halo 5, Dare and the Human against Locke and Buck. Locke and the Human fight viscously while Dare and Buck pull their punches. In the end Locke is incapacitated by the Human and Dare and Buck end up at each others gun point. The Human forces Dare to take the shot to prove her allegiance. When she refuses, the Ancient Human shoots them both himself. The Human then accesses the ship, while Buck and Dare cradle each other, bleeding out. As security defences begin activating, Buck orders Locke to leave them and regroup with the rest of Alpha 9 and escape.
Back with the Chief, you arrive at Maethrillian, the 100’000km wide space station. You battle with ONI and the Ancient Humans as both teams race to secure the control centre of the facility. Like before, ONI and the Humans manage to win the race, forcing the Chief to plan an attack to retake control. He sends Blue Team and Bornstellar on a ship to attack from a different angle, while he, Chant, Birth and the Didact attack the main entrance. Though Birth dies in the assault, Chief’s team succeeds and they find the two Ancient Humans inside.
Out of nowhere, one of the Humans kills the other and announces that they have been secretly working with the Didact secure Human dominance through full understanding of Forerunner technology. The Didact then captures Chant and the Chief and takes control of Maethrillian. He then jumps the station into slipspace leaving Bornstellar and Blue Team stranded in their ship.
To be concluded in the DLC in December 2027
