> Since Halo 5’s release, my mind has been racing ahead to where the next game will take us, and seeing as I had a bit of fun writing the last one, I figured I’d give Halo 6 a go too.
> A few points before I get started. I don’t sympathise with 343 with regards to Halo 5’s story, so I’m going to try and right a few wrongs along the way (cough cough Jul 'Mdama). The campaign will be a whopping 16 missions long (with no ‘walkabout’ missions), and I pretty much have the plot locked down in my head, so I’ll list the mission below as a bit of a tease and add some lazy links when I post new mission, which will probably be every other day or so.

Astro, this is beautifully written from start to finish. Absolutely love the ending as a contrary to the big flashy one in Halo 3 with it being played a little under. For something like that, most people would have huge celebrations but at the ending of Halo 6: Tempest, I’d just breathe a sigh of relief that the threat was averted.

I’d ask if you have anything else up your sleeve, but it might be a while.

So to put all your minds at rest, the hands that come out of the Cryptum at the end do belong to Ancient Humans, three of them to be exact. They would become major players in Halo 7 and they come with an interesting twist, which would be revealed at the end of Halo 8. It sounds quite drawn out, but it will make sense when I post the release schedule for media post Halo 6: Tempest.

So, as promised, here is my time line for future media following Halo 6: Tempest. I personally think that 343’s general idea of the Reclaimer Saga is various factions trying to reclaim the Mantle of Responsibility. First we had the Didact in Halo 4, then Cortana in Halo 5.
Halo 6: Tempest marks the half way mark, the third of six games (not counting Wars 2) in my plan for the Reclaimer Saga. So here we go.

2018-2020

Game - Halo 6: Tempest - April 2018
Obviously this breaks the 3 year rule, by 6 months, but I feel that this could be a good shift for the Halo games. DLC maps and content would be supported until Holiday 2018.

Book - Halo: House of 'Mdama - October 2018
This would be the first of a new trilogy of books following Jul 'Mdama in his search for his son, Dural. The first book would follow him travelling to New Pancras with Dr Halsey to find that he has already escaped (with help). The book would revolve around him following clues and leads until he eventually finds Dural now holding a fairly high position within the Servants of Abiding Truth. Halsey only stays with Jul a short time before returning to the UNSC. In the end, Jul ends up being marooned on a old space station, while his son and the Servants continue on their campaign.

Comic - Halo: Olympus - January 2019
This would be a 12 issue comic following the final construction of the UNSC Olympus and generally following the aftermath of the rise of the Created. It would also follow the forming of the new Alpha 9 team lead by Buck. The issues would follow on chronologically but will all tell separate small stories featuring many character involved with the Olympus and the UNSC. Toward the end of the series, Locke and Dare show up and ask Buck to accompany them, leaving Thorne as the temporary leader until Buck returns.

The first in a collection of 3 books by Eric Nylund. The first picks up right after Halo 6 with Blue Team stationed on the Olympus. When a strange signal is detected in the ruins of Gao, Blue Team are sent to escort Dr Halsey (returned from New Pancras after helping Jul) and her new A.I. Palmer as they investigate the ancient human ruins. They end up in a battle for the ruins with the Kig-Yar ship mistress Chol Von (previously seen in Mortal Dictata). By the end of the book, Blue Team find the ancient humans as they are regaining their strength, and using similarly advanced tech to the Forerunners, are able to decimate Chol Von’s forces. They attempt to return to the Olympus where Osman intercepts them and carts off the ancient humans, covering up any trace of them in black ink.

Movie - Halo: Insurrection - May 2020
As Locke started his life in a movie/mini series, I felt it was fitting for him to return to that media for his next outing in the universe. The film would revolve around Locke and his new partner Dare as they go up against the Insurrectionist forces on Venezia, the antagonist of the film being Peter Moritz, head of the Venezian Militia, and the defected Spartan VI Michael Crespo. Buck would also be a part of the movie as a supporting character at the beginning and end of the film. In the end, Mickey would be defeated by Locke and Dare, before Dare was captured. Locke an Buck then mount a rescue attempt only to find that Dare has defected to the Rebel Cause and refuses to be saved, before she and Moritz escape. Returning beaten and confused to Admiral Osman, she reveals that this was the plan all along, and that Dare is a mole with the job of destabilising the Insurrectionists. Buck returns to Olympus to head Alpha-9, while Locke remains with ONI to continue the mission. The tone of the movie would be quite dark and gritty, and follow a sort of James Bond type structure, but in space.

Jul is rescued by Veta Lopis and the Gammas, who aid him for a short time in infiltrating an outpost of the Servants and getting his son back. In the end, Dural agrees to leave the Servants with Jul, and they do their best to destroy the remote outpost lead by Dural, making it look like an accident.

I seriously love your ambition, man! Multiple trilogies feels, to me, like its bloating the story you’re telling. But, of course, I can’t stop you from doing that haha.

Well the Erik Nylund trilogy is less of a continuous story and more of three separate books focusing on three groups of Spartans, just written by the same author.
And if I remember rightly, 343 had both the Kilo 5 trilogy and the Forerunner trilogy running at the same time.

That is true. But they were about two totally different things.
I feel there’s a lack of Forerunner narratives outside your UNSC and Ex-covenant stories from expanded universe material. But you have your plans laid out already.
Perhaps you meant to develop your stories that way? I can see that.

Locke an Buck then mount a rescue attempt only to find that Dare has defected to the Rebel Cause and refuses to be saved, before she and Moritz escape. Returning beaten and confused to Admiral Osman, she reveals that this was the plan all along, and that Dare is a mole with the job of destabilising the Insurrectionists. Buck returns to Olympus to head Alpha-9, while Locke remains with ONI to continue the mission. The tone of the movie would be quite dark and gritty, and follow a sort of James Bond type structure, but in space.

Game - Halo 7: Alpha-Nine - April 2021
This would be the next (4th) game in the Reclaimer Saga. The game is played through the eyes of Buck as you lead your new squad on missions against The Banished. Early on in the game, after spending a couple of missions dealing with the Servants of Abiding Truth, the Olympus comes into contact with the Spirit of Fire which has returned from the Ark with the Banished hot on their heals (obviously I have no idea what going to happen in Wars 2 so I’m just going with it). By the middle of the game, the main focus has shifted to destroying Atriox’s capital ship, as this seems to be where he is mounting most of his assaults from. After a bit of cat and mouse chasing them from, planet to planet, Atriox manages to Spring a trap on the Olympus, and looks to have them beat. In the final missions, ONI turn up, sporting some significant upgrades (from the ancient humans) and destroys the capital ship, though Atriox manages to get away. In the final scenes of the game, we see Osman and ONI at a press conference revealing the 3 ancient humans to the UNSC, stating that they are here to help and will progress humanity to a new age.
Again, DLC would be supported until the holiday season, maps and other stuff, you know the drill.

Book - Halo: Red - October 2021
The second book by Nylund would focus on the Spartans of Red Team. Similar to Ghosts Of Onyx, it would begin by showing us some of their childhood on Reach with the rest of the Spartan IIs, before quickly moving on to some of the events of Halo Wars and how they became involved with the Spirit of Fire and tell of some of the events of the game from their perspective. Obviously touching on some of the events of Halo Wars 2 as well, the story would then shift into how they got back to UNSC space and their reintegration with the other Spartans, specifically their reunion with Blue Team. The story ends with Commander Tanaka informing them they have received a message from Grey Team, and send Blue and Red to investigate.

Comic - Halo: Ferrets - April 2022
This would be a limited 8 issue run of comics following Veta Lopis and the Gammas. The story would follow them coming into contact with the last of Atriox’s forces on the run after their defeat in Halo 7: Alpha-Nine. As Atriox begins to rebuild his forces, the Ferrets would be there at every turn to try and hinder his attempts. Their skirmishes would take them to Trevelyan, where Atriox manages to activate a portal taking him to the Composer’s Forge, where he meets the Didact. Atriox returns to Trevelyan with the Didact as his A.I. companion, along with his four henchmen (remains of Black Team) and procure an arsenal of Forerunner ships and weapons from the shield world. The Ferrets manage to back Atriox and the Didact into a corner, forcing them to take drastic measures, compromising the shell of the shield world, causing it to begin ripping itself apart as it returns to normal space. The Ferrets then choose to help save the UNSC forces and end up letting Atriox escape as the Trevelyan rips itself apart.

Book - Halo: Ruin of 'Mdama - October 2022
In the third and final book, we see Jul and Dural return home to Sangheilios to start their new lives at the 'Mdama Keep. Meanwhile, we get another viewpoint from Telcam, who discovers that Dural betrayed him and has returned to Sangheilios, and so begins his revenge plot. The story revolves around a bloody siege of the 'Mdama Keep, on both land sky and space, with Jul reaching out to the Arbiter, Rtas and Vale for help. In the end, the 'Mdama Keep is destroyed and Jul sacrifices himself to bring and end to the Servants, killing Telcam in hand to hand combat, before activating some old forerunner ruins, transporting the Servant’s final forces to oblivion. In the final chapters, we see Dural with his partner with her unborn child beginning a peaceful life on a farm in the hills around the ruins of the 'Mdama Keep, promising to eventually rebuild it to its former glory in honour of his father.

TV Series - Halo: Triumvirate - July 2023
This would be a 10 episode stand alone series, with 1 hour episodes being released every month finishing in April 2024 with the release of Halo 8: Bastion. The series would follow 2 main storylines that would intertwine. The first would be all about the 3 ancient humans, known as the Triumvirate, as they work with ONI and worm their way into a seat of power within humanity as they win everyone over with their offerings of advanced technology. Throughout the series, Osman would be increasingly concerned that her seat of power was being lost in favour of the Triumvirate, employing increasingly risky plays against them.
The second storyline would focus on Locke as he continues his mission against the Insurrectionists. His missions would bring him back into contact with Talitha Macer, the other survivor of the Alpha Shard in Halo: Nightfall. She would accompany Locke for a time, but also act as a go between for Locke and Dare using her Sedran contacts. Dare and Talitha manage to smuggle Locke onto Venezia, Talitha posing as an arms dealing representative for the Sedran Militia. Everything goes south when Peter Moritz discovers the deception and has Dare execute Talitha, which she does in order to keep her cover.
In the end, Osman would end up getting removed from the position of CINCONI, with the UEG electing the Triumvirate to take the position. When a plot to assassinate the ancient humans is discovered, they declare Osman an fugitive of the UEG, prompting her to go on the run with the remains of Kilo-5 who remain loyal to her.
Meanwhile Locke, fuelled be revenge, leads a one man attack on the Insurrectionist HQ using his Mjolnir armour, while Dare simultaneously leads a coup from the inside, culminating in the collapse of the Insurrectionist leadership, and the death of Moritz, beaten to death by Locke in his armour. Locke, unable to trust Dare due to her actions, returns to ONI alone to find the shift in leadership.

Book - Halo: Grey - October 2023
Nylund’s third book would pick up with Grey Team in 2551 during the height of the Covenant war, and would briefly detail the mission they were assigned to which would lead to the absence during Operation Red Flag. The latter most of the book would pick up in the current time line, with the team running a mission deep in Brute territory, having been deployed since 2554. Grey Team would discover that a large contingent of Atriox’s forces have found Installation 06, and are currently on the surface hunting for the Index. The manage to send a message back to the UNSC before heading down to the surface to stop the Brutes. With Adriana and Mike on the surface, Jai commandeers a Brute ship in order to draw off their forces, leading them into the asteroid belt orbiting the gas giant. Out of weapons ammunition and out of options, Jai turns his ship around and rams it head on into the enemy ships, causing a huge explosion that sends the asteroids in the belt flying off into different orbits around the planet. Back on the Halo, Adriana and Mike continue to engage the Brutes on the ground, but soon encounter a different problem, the rouge asteroids spinning round the planet begin peppering the Halo and causing serious damage. The bombardment becomes so bad that even the Brutes give up and run, as the final blow is struck, sending four large fragments spinning down to the planet below. With Adriana and Mike riding a fragment to their deaths, a UNSC ship arrives in the last second and a daring effort to rescue them is attempted. In the nick of time, a pelican piloted by Blue Team shows up to lift Grey Team to safety. Back on their frigate, they have a few moments of down time before Linda comes running in saying that the Chief has returned to UNSC space, and something is wrong.

Well I did think that after finishing my script. I felt that the universe had been left in a state similar that that of Mass Effect 2, given that the threat had been defeated in 1 and now the universe was in a state of relative peace where stories from across the galaxy could be told in a setting that wasn’t that of an ongoing war.
The only issue would be that an RPG with varying choices would leave the universe with some black spots that other fixed canon couldn’t touch.

Game - Halo 8: Bastion - April 2024
The penultimate game in the Reclaimer Saga would be a Chief only game, played 100% as the Chief. The game would pick up with Chief and Spark following clues leading them to Bastion. The first clue would be one left by Cortana in a very very basic fragment, more of an interactive message she recorded before she died, that would lead to a small facility on a remote planet. The first half of the game would follow you moving from planet to planet collecting information, while simultaneously fighting of the Banished that are hot on your heals. With each new clue, the fragment is able to process the knowledge and offer more information (that no of the movie I,robot how the professor left an interactive message for detective spooner).
At the final planet, Chief manages to give the Banished the slip and head for Bastion, a shield world similar to Trevelyan, tucked away in the galactic centre. From here the second half of the game takes place, with a very similar feeling and style to Halo 4, with Chief and Spark landing on and investigating a derelict shield world, fighting off collections of security sentinels. This section of he game is also supposed to emote similar feelings of discovery and wonderment that Halo CE had.
Eventually you discover the true nature of the facility, a giant Cryptum meant to house the Forerunners while the flood ran its course across the galaxy should the Halos fail, however only a handful of them made it. You also discover that the Banished have traced you to Bastion and the race begins to find the remaining Forerunners before they can get inside.
Upon finding the Forerunners in stasis, Chief is met once again by an archived personality of the Librarian. She tells him that she was the first to arrive here, having used the portal on Earth before the Halos fired. Later she was joined by Chant-to-green, Birth-to-light and Bornstellar. She wished to remain awake as the final guardian of Bastion while the others entered stasis. In her final days, she imprinted herself upon Chant-to-green, as both her successor as lifeshaper and as the IsoDidact’s spouse.
Upon waking the Forerunners, they agree to help Chief in irradiating the Banshished that have managed to enter Bastion and return to Earth.
In the epilogue, the Forerunners arrive at earth, where the UEG feel it fitting that they should meet with the Triumvirate of ancient humans. It is in this moment the Forerunners reveal that the Triumvirate are the heads of an anti-forerunner terrorist group who tried to attain the Mantle before the flood invasion. The game cuts to black as war breaks out between the Forerunners and Ancient Humans.

As voice actors for the Forerunners, I would pic Brandon Keener (Garuus Vakarian) as Borneatellar, Cate Blanchette (Galadrial) as Chant-to-green and Fred Tatasciore (Damon Baird) as Birth-to-light.
Also, my pics for the Triumvirate would have been Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson), Lance Henriksen (Bishop) and Luke Bracey (Jonny Utah), as they all would portray the characters in live action and via voice over.

Book - Halo: The Trails - September 2024
This would be the first in a trilogy of books, potentially by Greg Bear, which follows several view points during times before his original trilogy. This book would cover events around the arrival of the ancient starships carrying the Precursor dust, the human application to the lower species and the subsequent outbreak and war, leading to the eventual receding.
The book would alsofollow Yprin Ypikushma with her discovery of the Precursor planetoid at the edge of the Galaxy, referred to as the Conduit. They would discover a capsule containing an organic life form and transport it to Charum Hakkor where they would interrogate it and learn the truth about the Flood, while a small contingent of humans stayed to further study the Conduit. Following this would be the Didact’s assault on the Charum Hakkor and Humanity’s defeat.
The final moments of the book would detail humanity’s devolution and the shipping of the primordial to Installation 07.

Comic - Halo: Renegade - January 2025
This would be a 12 issue comic detailing the rise and fall of the Triumvirate, from simple humans looking out for their species, to become the leaders of a fully fledged terrorist organisation leading attacks on the Forerunners. Taking place long before the introduction of the Flood, the series would focus on the galactic structure of civilisation between Forerunners, Humans and the San’Shyuum.
As the Triumvirate gain more power, the climax of the story focuses on their planned attack Muspelsgaard, the Forerunner capital world before Maethrillian, during a mass gathering of Forerunner leaders. A small group of Forerunners caught wind of the attack and secretly invited the leaders of humanity to the gathering, while also making sure the leaders of the Forerunner rates were absent.
The Triumvirate end up blowing up Musplsgaard, only to find out to their horror that they had killed their own leaders. Caught with the smoking gun in their hand, the Triumvirate are tried by the defacto leaders of Humanity, and for the gross crimes against their own kind, are sentenced to an eternity in stasis, buried deep within an unknown garden world in restricted space.

Book - Halo: The Conduit - September 2025
Following the initial outbreak of the Flood, and the Didact’s defeat in his plans to build shield worlds, a group of Forerunners began secretly building a shield world known as Bastion, as a final safe haven to retreat to should the Halos fail.
They are helped by a collection of humans who managed to escape the Didact’s wrath, by having been stationed on the Conduit, its location unknown to the forerunners. This was the place where Yprin Yprikushma had found the Primordial, and the surviving humans had elected to stay and continue research while the Primordial was taken back to Charum Hakkor.
While some of the story follows the construction of Bastion, other perspectives follow a team of humans and Forerunners as they return to the Conduit to investigate, believing it to be connected to the origin world of the Precursors. Within the layers of the huge structure they eventually find a data centre with knowledge detailing the actual events of the forerunner uprising against the Precursors. This would lead to tension between the human and Forerunner science teams, leading to a mutiny, the humans blaming the Forerunners for their actions that would lead to the introduction of the flood and the eventual devolution of humanity.
The science team eventually discover the Precursors intention of the Flood’s full return to the galaxy, causing them to stop fighting and mutually agree that the Galaxy is doomed. At the centre of the world they find a huge chamber containing an advanced neural star road which connects to somewhere outside the Galaxy, and that the last ship to pass through was a Precursor in stasis. Upon this discovery, the whole team are unified and decide to leave their doomed Galaxy and find out where the ship went.

Book - Halo: Assemblage - October 2026
This would be 600 page collection of short stories from across the Halo Universe, similar to Fractures and Evolutions. The stories would range from pre-history right up to the events of Halo 8: Bastion. Stories could include;

  • Picking up with the Ferrets and Veta Lopis as they are debriefed following the Trevelyan Incident. - Captain Cutter’s reintoduction to the current state of the UNSC and a meeting with Lord Hood, who still feels guilty about his disappearance. (thanks to Grunty Headshot for this one) - Vale’s new position as the Human ambassador on Sangheilios, as she works to maintain the peace, while at the same time trying to help the Arbiter with his efforts against the Servants. Obviously this would pick up not to long after the events of Halo 6, before we see her again in The Ruin of 'Mdama. - Dr Halsey working with her new AI Palmer and Tanaka in their assessment of the next wave of Spartan IVs. Book - The Cloudburst - September 2026
    The final book on the trilogy would follow the events of the Forerunner-Flood war as a whole, told from various perspectives, primarily Chant and Birth, including the attack on Maethrillian, the Forerunner capital, and the rescuing of the Forerunners that managed to survive. Their chapters would then follow the main events leading to the Halos firing (different from those seen in Scilentium), the aftermath and then their journey to Bastion.
    The book would also follow the scientists who left the Galaxy through the star road in the previous book. They would arrive at the edge of an unknown Galaxy in the centre of another artificial planetoid. Upon exiting, they find a solar system similar to Sol, and travel to the main life baring world. When they arrive they find the planet dormant but covered in huge ships waiting to be launched, containing not only more powder, but capsules containing infected specimens of the world they’re on. They eventually find the Precursor in stasis, which wakes and tells them of its plan to invade invade the new Galaxy when the time is right.
    Their sense of duty drives them to stop the Precursor, promoting him to activate his plans early. With not enough firepower to stop the millions of ships leaving the planet, they fly their own ship into the sun, its power core causing the sun to supernova.
    Back on the artificial planetoid at the edge of the system, the couple of scientists that stayed watch as the sun explodes. The Precursor manages to outrun the blast, overriding the neural star road and traveling back to the Milkyway, leaving the scientists to watch as the supernova approaches and eventually consumes them.
    The final chapter of the book follows Bornstellar, Chant and Birth as they are awakened by the Master Chief.
