So, the last few nights that I’ve been playing Warone (assault) I’ve noticed that a lot of what I think should be “killshots” are giving me assists instead of kills.
Now, in a mode where bullets are flying all over, I understand that maybe not all of these should be credited to me. Not sure about what percent damage I caused on every one, but I’m confident I’m doing MOST of the damage and often getting the final
shot. I’ve played too much of this game to interpret what I’m seeing as normal. This doesn’t seem to happen when I get a headshot for the kill. Even had it happen where I got two “kills” with a frag and it instantly gave me the 2 assists.
Saw this once and somebody said it had to do with lag. I’ve always had a fine connection by all accounts. Is there another indicator that would confirm it is in fact a delay?
WTF IS GOING ON?! I’m sick of this game and it’s never-ending list of bugs, glitches, and problems. Been playing this game religiously since CE and we’re really going to have the worst functioning game, what, 5 games later?!
The kill shot is the only shot that matters for the getting the kill stat. When there are 12 players on a team, your bound to get a lot of assists. There is nothing wrong with the game when it comes to this. You’ve been playing since CE and didn’t know this was how this mechanic worked? Not everything is the games/343’s fault.
Head shots should be most of your kills, that melee and grenades, if you’re fighting with your team, automatics will often just take down sheilds.
Ok guys- I do appreciate the input but let me clarify.
I DO understand how the game mechanics work. That’s my problem. I’m getting the last shot on a guy, or doing the necessary damage with a grenade to GET the kill, but instead I’m getting an assist. The way I understand it, no matter what happens, if it’s me who puts down an opponent, it’s me who gets the kill.
Also, very aware of which weapons do what, and fully aware of the “math” involved when it comes to what a weapon can do/ needs to do in order to drop shields or get a kill.

It might help if you had video, but i’m going to assume lag.

Yeah, I have the same problem…
OP, I know what you mean. I’ve gotten assists with tank rounds, rockets, swords, splatters, etc at the exact moment it would normally award a kill. It’s not often, but it does happen and it is annoying.
If it happens again and I catch it, I’ll capture it. There’s something a little wonky about Warzone calculations as this doesn’t happen in Arena at all. It might be the latency of that many players at once, but it doesn’t make it any less crap when you ram a plasma sword into someone’s face and get an assist for it.
Thanks for the help. Yeah, I suppose maybe a “fringe” latency issue that may not affect my Arena play would potentially cause an issue in the exponentially busy mode of Warzone.
Is there any other indicator of said latency? I suppose I could look at the actual number… Anybody have stats on how high latency can be without affecting play? I’m hard wired also (if that matters)
